*Axel’s POV* A low growl rolled through the blackened woods, swallowed quickly by the wind and the pounding rain. The forest groaned under the weight of the storm—branches lashed, leaves tore, and the earth softened into mud. Dash’s paws ripped through the ground as we made our way through the forest. A streak of motion caught our attention. They were closing in on us. Wolves burst between trees, lightning flashing overhead. Through the overwhelming smells, I smelled her. Almond and coffee with a hint of—blood. Dash sped up, our heart racing—desperate to find her. Water streamed from the draping branches before crashing into Dash’s midnight black fur.
