Explanation and understanding
JESSICAThe audacity of this man to even say all these mean things to me has me opening my mouth in shock as we stare angrily at each other. Who the hell does he think he is to talk to me like that when he is a lying, cheating asshole?“You know what? Fuck you. The world does not revolve around you, and neither do I live to serve you, fulfill your wishes, or please you. The fact that we had sex a few times does not give you the right to start stalking me like a creep.” I tell him hotly, the hurt and anger that I had no idea that I had been nursing all this while coming to the surface immediately. I wonder if I’m imagining the hurt look on Charle’s face.“Wow!”“Yeah. It was just sex, and if I knew that you had a fiancée, I sure as hell would never have had sex with you. You’re a terrible liar and a cheat, and I feel really sorry for any woman who is associated with you.” I tell him, noting that people were staring at us, but I’m too angry to care.Maybe if he had shown a little remors

Malicious
JESSICA"I thought you were … I mean … I should have asked questions instead of just running off in anger. I didn’t know that … oh, God! I’ve been so stupid. You must think the worst of me.” I say, getting worked up. It’s my haywire hormones at work, I know.“It’s okay. You had your reasons. I’m just glad that we cleared everything up. How have you been, Jessica? I really missed you.” Charles tells me, his tone dropping an octave and sending shivers down my spine. Although he looks kind of gaunt now that I appraise him carefully, he’s still easily one of the most handsome men that I’ve ever known. Handsomeness runs in their family, it seems. For a split second, I imagine how handsome, or beautiful my child is going to be. It occurs to me that I will have to tell Charles about the baby sooner rather than later, and I fleetingly wonder how that is going to go down.“I’ve been fine. And you?” “I’ve been okay, more or less.” He replies, and for a second, an unreadable expression comes o

True colors
I wonder if I’m the only one who is thinking that there is something weird about the way she’s staring at us, but when I glance at Charles, I can see how uncomfortable he looks. He’s sweating profusely all of a sudden, and he’s staring at Samantha with what I can only term a pleading look, while the look on her face changes to one of defiance and smugness. Neither of them looks in the least bit surprised to see the other.“Um, what’s going on here?” I ask, at last, becoming very uncomfortable with the whole thing.“What’s up, girl?” Sam asks, ignoring my question.“I’m fine. This is Charles, although I think you already know him from the way you two are behaving.”“Oh, I know it’s Charles, trust me, I know,” Sam replies, with a sly smile. The smile reminds me of that of a cunning snake that I had read about in a picture book when I was about seven or so. Somehow, I know that what I’m about to hear is not going to be pleasant in the least bit.“Okay … why’re you acting weird? Charles,

The fight
I didn’t think it was possible for Charles to go any greener than he already was, but at Samantha’s words, he turns pale, and he looks like he’s going to pass out at any moment. As for me, the wheels in my head are turning rapidly, and I’m wondering how on earth to extricate myself from this rapidly embarrassing situation and painful situation.I’m not yet processing the whole thing as well as I should, but there will be enough time for that. Right now though, being in the same vicinity as Sam is extremely nauseating, so I have to get the hell out of there. It doesn’t help that Charles is standing there like a deaf or mute person, and not refuting or accepting Sam’s claims.“That’s wonderful. I wish you both the very best. Take care now.” I tell them, turning away and walking off rapidly, desperate to retain my dignity. Now, I wish that I did not ask Jeff to go away. I could do with some support right now.“Jessica, please wait! It’s not what you think at all. I only had sex with her

On the loose
CHARLESI feel like I’m in the middle of one of those ridiculous TV dramas, or bad romance novels … the type which one would watch or read and think, ‘What the hell were they thinking writing a story like that? There’s no way that would ever happen in real life.”Except that it is actually happening in real life, and it is happening to me. As I lean against a wall, trying to recover from the horrible ache in my balls, as well as recover my shattered ego, I can see that the crowd is beginning to disperse, but a few people are still lingering around. Some have recognized me, as the phones in their hands suggest.I wince as I realize that they’ve been filming the scene all this while. I’m going to be in the gossip channels again, whether I like it or not. Tons of people are going to watch how I was shamefully brought down by a pregnant woman while trying to defend Jessica. The thought of this leaves a sour taste in my mouth.Samantha is nowhere to be found, which is just as well. She’s t

Worried sick
JESSICASebastian’s mother welcomes me to her home with open arms, as I had known she would. Once upon a time, she had practically been a mother to me, that is until my kidnap and Sebastian’s marriage to another woman. After that, I shut myself off from everyone, until now, that is.“Jessica, honey. How are you? You look so radiant and beautiful, much better than the last time I saw you. That is for sure. You put on some weight … I mean that in a good way. How have you been?” She asks, giving me a long, strong hug of affection that I hadn’t even been aware that I needed. I revel in the hug and immediately feel at home, breathing in her familiar scent.“I’ve been fine, Mrs. James,” I reply and she nods, looking me over once again. Her shrewd gaze lingers on my belly, but she does not say anything.“Hello, Jessica. Welcome. We’ve been awaiting your arrival.” A male voice says, and I whirl around to see a somewhat familiar-looking man looking at us with kind eyes.“This is Donald, Carol’

The nerve!
I do not reply to her, and after a while, she speaks again.“I get that he’s Charlotte’s brother and all, but at the risk of sounding like a broken record and stating the obvious, I have to tell you that he’s not his sister, Jessica. Now, I know that you must have heard that so many times before, but it’s the truth. You need to stop punishing him for what his sister did to you. He’s not safe from her either. She was trying to kill him when she was arrested, you know.”“I know.”“He cares about you a lot, Jessica, and kept wondering why you wanted nothing to do with him after you both got back from the island. It didn’t take a genius to know that something happened between the two of you on that island with the way he was so torn up and worried about you.Of course, I didn’t ask him such a forward question, considering that we’re only just getting to know each other and all, but I could tell and I thought that it was very sweet. Don’t get me wrong. You’re obviously not under any obliga

Musings
SAMANTHAOf course, I’m not surprised by Jessica’s lack of reception towards me, after what she just found out earlier in the day, but still, I’m pissed at the way she’s treating me. Why she should be pissed when I’m only giving her a taste of her own medicine is what I don’t understand. After all, I had forgiven her after she stole Sebastian from me, and even later wanted them to get married. It’s been a week since the incident at the airport, yet I still can’t reach her because she blocked my number from calling her. It’s annoying how she can be so selfish at times. What does she expect me to do? Raise two bloody kids alone without their father? All I want her to do is to put in a good word on my behalf, and maybe Charles will be willing to let bygones be bygones, and we can raise our kids together. Granted, I may have gone too far with the whole scheme, but in my defense, that hadn’t been my plan in the beginning. What I wanted to do was to show her how painful it was for your fri

Beyond stubborn
SAMANTHATwo days later, I’m sitting in front of Charles’s house in the idling rented car that I bought and waiting for him to drive out of his gate and away to work for most of the day. I have to admit that the fact that Charles absolutely refuses to act like most of the rich men I know, Sebastian included, is working to my advantage now. Before it used to piss me off that he lived in such a house that was unbecoming of his status as a multi-millionaire. It’s not that the house is bad, per se. It’s just not something any rich person should live in. It’s a simple, modest house, with a small fence and without any serious security whatsoever, but again this is working to my advantage now that I have to move in in his absence.Had it been that he lived in a house like Sebastian’s which had heaven knows how many security men and systems in place, he would surely have given them express instructions not to let me in if I come sniffing around, so it’s a good thing that he’s a modest guy who

JESSICAThe days pass and then the weeks pass, yet there’s no news about Charlotte’s recapture. She has simply vanished into thin air, and while I would like to think that she has run away to a foreign country to start over her life, I know that that is an impossibility. She’s most likely laying low and thinking of the best way to kill everyone who in her mind has offended her.Two days ago, I received a call from one of my neighbors, telling me that someone had broken into my apartment and trashed the place, leaving a dead pig behind as a souvenir. I had received this alarming news much more calmly than the situation warranted. In fact, ever since this whole jailbreak situation started, I have been weirdly calm.Mrs. James assures me all the time that I’m perfectly safe in her house, and as much as I would like to believe that, I can’t help but think of the fact that her husband was killed right here in this very house, despite all the protection that they had. However, then, there h
