Brandon and Chuck
KACELA The car I was in parked at the back of the lot that was in front of the building.  The other vehicle circled around back to find a way in that way.  We got out, pairing up, and I grabbed a warrior named Jack. “I’m going to lean in to you so they can’t see my eye and my scar,” I told him.  “Don’t freak out.  I’m not hitting on you.” We all enjoyed a chuckle at the joke, even though Jack seemed a little uncomfortable having the King’s mate hanging off his arm.  We split up, another couple behind us a few people and then, down the line, two more warriors hanging off from each other.  The line moved a little faster than some clubs that I’ve been to, but it was still slow. When my turn came I showed one of the many fake IDs I carry, this one identifying myself as Devon Jackson.  I giggled and rubbed up against Jack who fist bumped the bouncer and called him “Bro.”  We were admitted and I pushed away from Jack,

KACELA“Gina says the girls have been drugged,” one of the warriors explained to me.  That would explain their zombie looks.  “All but one came with us easily.  One fought us so Gina gave her a sedative.  The rest of the girls are in the other car.”One of the warriors silently passed me a napkin and gestured to my chin.  I used the napkin to wipe myself, seeing blood on the white cloth.  I sighed.  I must have banged my chin when I popped through the window.  Wyatt was going to have a fit.  Hopefully Dali would have me healed before he notices.“How did the others do?” I asked, fingers crossed. “We don’t know, my queen,” a warrior answered.  “We agreed to meet after we drop off the girls.  It’s better to go dark so that we don’t call at an inopportune time.”  I nodded, understanding.  It would not have ended

KACELAI grabbed a portable tracker out of my bag and stuffed it into my cleavage. It wasn’t a great hiding spot but it was the best I could do with my time limit. I left my phone with the tracking app open, grabbed the laptop and bolted from the room, taking off for the southeast corner of the building. I could hear Jarrett yelling my name behind me, but I didn’t stop.I ran out the door and a white van pulled up and the sliding door opened. I could see Lia inside, bound, looking scared. I skidded to a stop.“Here’s the laptop. Give me Lia.”The man waved his gun at me. “Get in. Someone wants to talk to you.”I shook my head. “No. Let Lia go and I’ll go with you.”The man sitting next to Lia took a knife and ran it down her arm, opening up a huge cut that instantly began bubbling blood. Her Lycan wasn’t healing the wound and I realized that Lia was wearing a thick, silver collar. Lycans react to silver even worse than wolves do. She was weak and, if the silver stayed on

Phone
WYATTI pulled into the warehouse, exhausted.  Our location had put up a huge fight and the local police were called.  I had to deal with that, and they had wanted to take the girls to their precinct.  I had let them know that we had already made arrangements for medical care to be given to them in another location.  I spent an hour at the station, trying to convince some higher ups that we were not normal mercenaries.  Finally, a lawyer that used to be part of my pack showed up, told the sheriff some bull story about how I was looking for my niece and got me released.  A few of my warriors met me outside the station and drove me back to the warehouse.I slid out of the car and immediately noticed the hush that was over the huge room.  I could feel something was wrong and I knew it had to do with Kacela.  I looked around for Jarrett.“He’s upstairs,” a young warrior tentatively said, pointing.  I wal

KACELA The man shut the door behind him, gesturing at the body hanging from the shower rod.  “Don’t worry.  I’m not intending on that being your fate.  I needed to make an example out of her so that the other girls know what is expected of them.”  The door opened again and another man slipped out, splattered with blood, bringing a webcam out of the bathroom.  I felt sick.  I realized they had filmed the girl’s torture and death to show it to others as a warning. “Set up in the basement, Steve,” the first man said, flicking his fingers and dismissing him.  Steve grabbed a towel off from the bar in the bathroom and shut the door behind him, taking his camera and heading towards the elevator, his face impassive.  “You didn’t have to kill her,” Lia said suddenly, next to me.  “She was loyal.  She delivered me to your men.” The man shrugged.  “But she let herself get taken in the first place,”

Phone Call
WYATT“Can he pinpoint the location of the phone?” I asked, running towards the door.  Earl shook his head. “No, but he will ping it,” Earl said.  “It should be making noise.”I stepped out of the office and leaned over the railing.  I could hear the noise of the phone pinging in the silence of the warriors. “Where is it?” I growled.  The warriors separated until one was standing in the middle of a circle, his face white but his back was straight.“I have it, sire,” he said.“Why do you have it?” I growled.  He could have lied, and I expected it.  But he didn’t.“Sire, they took my sister.  I got a call this morning from her and they will kill her if I do not do what they tell me to.  I was told to go into the office that the queen was using and destroy all of her equipment.  I did not, but I did

Morse Code
WYATTThe video abruptly ended.  I frantically tapped on the screen, needing to see more, needing to see if Kacela was okay.  Earl grabbed the phone from me and shouted over the railing. “Bob.  Theo.  I need you up here, now.  Get the Queen’s phone.”  The two warriors ran for the stairs, Bob catching the phone that another warrior tossed to him. “Someone get the Queen’s laptop and bring it up here.  Who here is good with technology?”  Several of the warriors raised their hands.  “Good, get up here.”Earl surveyed the crowd.  “The rest of you, divide up.  Some of you go out and try to catch the queen’s scent.  I want you spreading out over the city so when we figure out where she is we can deploy immediately.”  He looked down at Julie’s brother, an odd look on his face. “Mack.  Take Eli

KACELAI was barely conscious when they finally untied me from the hook they had hung my handcuffs on before they whipped me.  The man that untied me slipped a little in my blood.  He was kind, though, and caught me and wrapped me in a blanket when my legs gave way and I buckled.“I don’t know what you did to incur George’s wrath, but you need to stop,” he whispered to me.  “He will kill you.  I’ve seen him do it.”“Why do you work for him?” I mumbled, the effort of moving my mouth almost too much for me.“No choice,” he said.  He didn’t expound and I didn’t ask.  I was too hurt to care.He half dragged, half carried me to the elevator and pushed the button for the top floor.  I moaned a little, trying to regain my feet.  The man hushed me. “Shh.  It’s okay.  He’s not going to do anything rig

WYATTBob drove fast.  He drove much faster than he should have but we all felt the same sense of urgency.  I sat in the backseat, clasping my hands together and trying to control my temper. The voices around me all meshed together in a droning noise.  I could pick out Earl calling in reinforcements and having the other warriors meet us at the Tower.  Jarrett had pulled up a blueprint online of the towers and was delegating who was to search where.  I just wanted to get into the building.  I would tear it apart brick by brick if I had to.  I wanted to find Kacela. We made it in ten minutes.  I could hear a thumping noise and I craned my neck to see a helicopter taking off from the roof.  I clenched my hands, praying that Kacela wasn’t on that helicopter. Our efforts were well coordinated.  Someone had cut the power to the building, most likely George or whomever was in charge, trying to slow our prog

KACELA I woke up to the noise of something beeping.  The smell of rubbing alcohol hit my nostrils and I hurt.  I hurt all over.  I opened my eyes and looked for the source of the beeping so that I could stop it.  It was a monitor, hooked beeping with my heartbeats.  I could stop that.  I reached down, my arms feeling extraordinarily heavy, and pulled the pads that were attached to my chest off.  The beeping changed to a shrill constant noise. “Dammit,” I muttered, trying to sit up.  I heard another noise to my blind side and I tried to turn my head but before I could muster up the strength, I was enveloped in a hug.  I reached up my arms and hugged Wyatt back. “Kacela, we almost lost you,” he said, his voice husky. “Aww, a little beating never killed anyone,” I said, smiling.  He shook his head with a smile, and then reached over the top of me to the monitor, flipping a switch.  The incess
