KALILA’S POV “Oh no! Get that diary away from her!” Nova exclaimed with panic in her voice. I still couldn’t believe my eyes, I was so scared and everything in me was trembling. Wendy probably knew everything by now, about Dahlia, about me. She might even know that my name was actually Kalila! I was freaking out but I was too shocked to even do anything. “Don’t just stand there like a goof, go and take it away from her, Kalila!” Nova bellowed in my ears and suddenly jolted me out of my frightened thoughts. I cleared my head, took a deep breath and walked over to her. She heard my footsteps and raised her head, she was quite startled but didn’t bother hiding the diary. “What the fuck are you doing with that?” I asked in a stern voice. “And why are you even in this room?” She shrugged, “It’s Ares’s, isn’t it?” “It’s both Ares’s and mine, hand over the diary, now.” I said, stretching out my hand. She regarded me silently for a long, uncomfortable moment. I was so tensed

ARES’S POV “Don’t say another word, Wendy, it will only annoy me more.” I said sternly, walking down the stairs. Leo had to be right about what he had said, it had to be Wendy’s fault. For one, what was she doing in the room? She has no business in the house to begin with. “Oh common, Ares, you really think it’s my fault that she was throwing a tantrum and screaming like a deranged woman?” She asked, walking briskly after me. I stopped and glared at her, she always tried to escape from something she was fully a part of. She had a habit of that, even when we were younger and we all got into trouble, she would maneuver her way out and only Jeremy and I would end up getting scolded. I thought she might have dropped the attitude by now and probably learnt how to accept and take responsibility for her actions. But that wasn’t the case, she was as childish and blameless to herself as ever. “I heard your voice too, Wendy. Don’t start that thing where you try to shift all the blame

ARES’S POV I had no idea what my uncle was saying or why he was saying it, but nothing was going to make me believe that Dahlia was the one who had tried to poison me. No way, that was just absurd thinking from my uncle! “He's got to be kidding me, that’s the lamest thing I’ve heard in a while.” Leo remarked and I couldn’t agree more with him. Although I didn’t react how I felt, something was off with my uncle. I could just feel it, maybe he wasn’t in the right state of mind and the person he kept seeing in his head was Dahlia. Or maybe it was a dream, maybe he had dreamt about Dahlia and interpreted it as her being the culprit. Whatever it was, I wasn’t going to believe him so easily, no way. “Oh common, uncle. What are you saying? Dahlia?” I asked with a bewildered look on my face. “Of course, everyone can be a suspect, can’t they? But you haven’t gotten closer to the truth because you haven’t included your so called Luna on the list.” He replied, dragging on his cigar

KALILA’S POV I was still confused by uncle Lawrence’s attitude towards me when I felt a tug at my arm, it was Jeremy. “Common, forget about it, let’s go.” He said, taking my hand in his and pulling me behind him. “Where are we going, Jeremy?” I asked, trying to keep up with him. “Just for a walk, to ease that angry mind of yours.” He replied.I followed him and he led me away from the pack house, we walked for a while in silence before he finally said, “You can’t stand her, can you?” “What?” I asked, not hearing him clearly the first time as I was still engrossed in my thoughts. What if she had actually flipped through the last pages? She would have noticed that the handwriting at the beginning and the end were different. That would have compelled her instincts to read through it thoroughly, what if I hadn’t gotten there in time? I needed to be more careful now that Wendy was here, if she managed to furl out my secret, I was doomed. What was she even doing in the r

KALILA’S POV While I sat on the bed in the evening thinking, I noticed something very disturbing. Ares was staring at me in a very suspicious manner and it got me wondering if I was a suspect to him. How could he even think of such a thing? I was the one who had saved his life after all. As I was about to ask him why he stared at me like that, he suddenly said, “Dahlia, come over here. We need to talk.” His voice wasn’t friendly at all. I obediently got up from the bed and walked over to his desk. I sat down on a chair and he rose and sat on the table right in front of me. “What’s the matter?” I asked. “I feel like I’m being interrogated.” “You are.” He replied with all seriousness. “I want you to be completely honest with me now, answer all my questions the way it happened.” He waited to see if I had something to say, I didn’t and he continued. “How did you find out that my drink was poisoned?” “Why are you asking me this all of a sudden?” I asked accusingly. “The

KALILA’S POV Something very peculiar happened the next day, it was one I couldn’t forget in a hurry. Before leaving Jeremy’s office, we talked for a while and I asked him what a blood moon was like here. “Most times, I do feel the effect, but I’m always indoors. This is the first blood moon I’ll be experiencing outside my pack.” I lied. “What's it like here?” His face became thoughtful, then a cheeky smile crossed his face, “Terrible, the men are advised to keep away from women because of the strong sexual desire that infects everyone during that period. The Blood moon's influence is crazy here actually, you can never sleep on the night one appears. Well, except if you sleep like a log and you can sleep through loud howling of hundreds of wolves.” He replied. “Why do you have that incentive smile on your face?” I asked, squinting suspiciously at him. “Because I should have a mate by tomorrow if I’m to get horny under the influence of some moon.” He laughed and I did too.I w

ARES' POV Something in me just didn’t want Wendy around on this particular night, it wasn’t Leo’s voice, if it was, I’d have ignored it. It was a feeling, rather than a voice in me. A feeling that was in anticipation of something, I had long learnt to trust my instincts and feelings especially when it came out of no where. I was also satisfied with the way I had spoken to Wendy, she needed to know her place here. Her father had asked for a hefty loan from me, I was right about what I said earlier. There was no other pack I could give such an amount to, it was only because of the good relationship between her father and I. A part of me felt like they were beginning to abuse the privileges I had given them. Wendy for one had overstayed her welcome here, even Jeremy had asked when he came to my office earlier. “Ares, why is she still here?” He asked.I pretended not to know who he was talking about, “Who are you referring to?” He rolled his eyes, “Obviously the only person who doesn’

ARES POV I watched the sky as it got darker with more focus now as I poured myself another drink. Then I suddenly felt something strange, like a wave of emotions just passed through me. I dropped the glass I held immediately, “Leo, what was that?” I asked. “I have absolutely no idea, Ares.” Leo replied and I grunted, I hated it when my wolf was completely clueless. Then I saw the orange and reddish glowing ball in the sky and I couldn’t take my eyes off it. It was like I had been hypnotized or something, the wave passed through me again, sending goosebumps all over my skin and that was when Leo suddenly exclaimed. “What are you doing, Ares? You’re giving yourself unto the influence of the moon, snap out of it!” His voice was desperate and heavy, but it was too late, it was already starting to get to me. I felt a new power surging through my body all of a sudden, so much power, in one place, in one body. My veins bulged from all over my body, I felt so strong, so light, I felt lik

KALILA’S POV I was so worried and tensed when Ares dropped to the floor. For a second I thought he was having a terrible heart attack, the way he had suddenly fell to the floor shook my nerves greatly. Was it me? Was I the cause of what was happening to him? There was no one else in the mansion that could help me, did it have to be now? When no one else was around? I paced up and down after wrapping a robe around myself, my heart was racing with fear. “Calm down, Kalila. You need to ease your mind.” Nova said. “What do you mean? He might be dead or something. I’m so frightened right now, what if he’s actually dead? What about my quest?” I exclaimed. “You’re not thinking straight.” Nova said and I couldn’t disagree, I wasn’t. “Look at him, he’s breathing, he’s fine. Help him up to the bed first.” I looked at Ares’s magnificent figure lying limply on the ground, how in the world was I supposed to lift him? I didn’t have such capacity. I tried to lift him up by his shoulders, bu

KALILA POVHe was dressed in all black, a pair of brown riding boots, and a brown hat on his head, although he looked absurd, he still looked very charming. “You’re like a damn grim reaper. What are you doing? And why do you have that vulgar hat on?” I asked when I had regained a little of my composure. “Vulgar? This hat belonged to my father.” He exclaimed, touching the tip of the hat and trying to adjust it to fit his head. “Just because it belonged to your father, doesn’t mean it’s pretty. You look ridiculous.” I said and walked into the bathroom. I washed my face, brushed my teeth and headed out of the bathroom. Ares was still in the room when I came back and I asked. “Where are you going dressed like that?” I asked, he was looking like a cowboy. “Horse riding.” He said and asked. “Why don’t you join me?”And get killed? I thought. I have never ridden a horse in my life and from the little knowledge I had of Ares and the fact that he was almost perfect at everything, I knew
