Amelie POV I brought Alexa up to speed on the woman who had called while Alexa had been in a coma. “The only women I knew of were our mother, and the researcher,” Alexa shared. “You do not think it could be anybody else? I did not recognize the researcher’s voice when she first called,” I stated to Alexa. “Anything is possible,” Alexa admitted, frowning. “What is it?” I asked, wondering what she was thinking. “Who could it be?” Alexa wondered as she got lost in her thoughts. I knew she was running through all her interactions with people over the years. As a young wolf, abused over the years, it is not surprising she did not remember many of the people she encountered. It was likely a protective mechanism her brain had put in place. “I think we should talk to her,” Alexa said as Colby wheeled her into her room. He helped her back into bed, before turning to look at both of us. “I think that is a bad idea,” he cautioned. “Why?” Alexa asked

Alexa POV I hated that so much had been forced on Amelie and Matt since they found me. I felt like I needed to do something to save them. I needed to get back on my feet so I could find a way to give myself up and save Amelie’s pup. I was terrified of what would happen to the pup and Amelie, if they managed to get Amelie. It would be the only way, if I were to give myself up in exchange for them leaving Amelie and Matt to live their lives. It would destroy me to have to leave her behind, but I had survived eighteen years without her, I could do it again. For Amelie, I would do anything. Even going back to that hell hole. Realizing Amelie and Matt were looking at me, my face flushed as I asked them to repeat what they had said. “Do you want to join us for supper in the dining hall?” Amelie asked. “Oh, I do not know about that,” I started to say when Matt cut me off. “It is time for you to get familiar with your new pack,” he added.

Alexa POV I screamed as I watched Amelie slide down the wall. I had no connection to the pack so I could not call for Matt to see where he was. I looked as the beast slowly turned to face me. “Well, Alexa. It seems it is just you and me. And in your condition, I think it is safe to say I won,” he commented as he slowly moved towards me. I felt my body freeze as I tried to consider what I could do. I was feeling intense pain in my legs, and my heart sank as I realized this would not help my ability to fight this beast. As he approached, I bent over in pain. “What is wrong?” he questioned, as he continued to move towards me. I could not speak; the pain was intense. If I could describe it, it was more like all the nerves were connecting. I could quite literally feel everything coming together. The more pain I endured, the stronger my legs felt. As the beast reached me, he put a hand on my shoulder. A sense of genuine concern laced through h

Matt POV I stood there in the hall, simply staring at the operating room door. It felt like hours had gone by, but it had only been minutes. They had determined that Amelie was at risk of losing our pup and her life. Her wolf was protecting the pup, but they would need to go in and do surgery to try and stop the bleeding. They hoped they would be able to help her wolf with protecting the future heir to the pack. They had not indicated if it was a male or female, and it did not matter. All I wanted was for both of them to be safe and back in my arms. I cursed myself for leaving Amelie alone. I had a sense that something was off today. I should have listened to my gut, but instead I did the right thing and went to search our borders for any breeches. Things had started to get back to whatever normal was going to be for us. We had a constant threat over our heads, but we were starting to live our lives. And now, in the blink of an eye, my li

Matt POV I jolted awake, having fallen asleep quickly. I glanced at my watch; I had been asleep for an hour. I immediately sat up looking around. Amelie still had not been returned to her room. I jumped up and raced out of her room heading up the hall towards the nurse’s station. “Where is she?” I demanded, as they looked at me alarmed. “The Luna was brought to her room a half an hour ago,” one nurse replied nervously. “She is not there!” I yelled as a doctor came running. “What is wrong, Alpha?” he asked, confused at my anger. “My mate, where is she?” I ground out. “The new nurse took her to her room,” he replied, as he started to walk towards the room Amelie should have been in. When he arrived and looked at the empty space, he was confused and white in the face. “I do not understand. She was so helpful,” he stated, as I tried to make sense of what he was saying. “Who was helpful?” I questioned. “The new nurse, she just transferred in,
