Chapter Twenty One

~Hours earlier~The morning sunlight bath the college campus with a soft glow. Ryke watched through the window of his car. Different cliques hung around just laughing. The field was occupied by a number of students bristling around to get started on their daily activities."Alex is in the gym", Christian told Ryke."Okay", Ryke nodded."Well if we want to talk to him, we are going to have to get out of this car"."Okay", Ryke nodded again."Ryke, are you listening to me?", Christian asked agitated."Yes. Let's go".They made their way through the field, some students hurried to their classes while some stopped to stare. It was either one of two things, they knew who he was or they were trying to understand why two men in suits were heading into their campus.Ryke tried to keep the worry out of his mind. She was just being a teenager like Christian had said. That would have been so much easier to believe if her phone wasn't found with a broken screen."Is the girl with your nephew?"

"What do you mean by who am I? If this is your way of showing that you finally developed a sense of humor then now is not the best time". Ryke blinked, "I'm really sorry but I really don't know who you are". Christian's smile faded as Ryke's words sank in. He could see the confusion and genuine lack of recognition in Ryke's eyes. Concern knitted his brow, and he leaned in closer, his voice laced with worry. "Ryke, this isn't a joke. It's me, Christian. We've been friends for years. Don't you remember?" Ryke's gaze remained distant. His brows furrowed as he tried to piece the fragments together. "You really don't remember", Christian said, letting it sink in. "Christian, I was just coming to find you. Can I talk to you for a minute?", Doctor Collins said from the door. Christian took one more look at Ryke before nodding. The two men walked outside, closing the door behind them. "He doesn't remember who he is". The Doctor nodded understandingly as if to pacify him, "Don't worry.

Crystal gripped her phone tightly. She had been too little to understand but she heard the police tell Logan that their father had been going a little over the speed limit, then he took a sharp turn, unable to control the car with the road being so slippery from the rain earlier in the day, he had driven them right off the bridge. She looked down at her broken screen. The file contained a police report stating that the accident had been as a result of cut brakes. It wasn't possible.Someone obviously wanted to play a trick on her.Her parents were the kindest people she knew. Why would someone want to have them killed?"Crystal".She yelped, her phone falling to the ground in the process. She quickly picked it up, turning off the screen before turning to look at the person that called her name."I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you", Kimberly smiled nervously at her.Crystal frowned at her."Look I know you are mad at me. I should have listened to you when you said you saw Ryke. I'm

Chapter Twenty Four

Her world was spinning. She had known Michelle for barely two weeks, yet her death shook her to the core. Deep down, when she pecked her and the little girl said goodbye, she had known. She just didn't want to acknowledge it. Tina hugged her tighter, sobbing uncontrollably. Crystal wanted to scream at the world for being so cruel and unfair. How was she supposed to console Michelle's mother when her own heart was breaking? "I'm so sorry", she whispered, her voice breaking, "I'm so so sorry." Tina only cried harder. Her eyes went to the hospital bed in the room where Michelle had laid just few hours ago. "Goodbye Crystal", her voice echoed. Someone wrapped their hand around the two of them. "I'm so sorry Tina." After a while, Tina stopped crying. She cleaned her red and swollen face. "I'm so sorry. I'm just a mess right now." Nurse Mary nodded in understanding. Staring back into the room, Tina whispered in a cracked voice, "I will just get the rest of her things and go.

He remembered everything, well at least the important stuff. Christian told him that he would need a trigger to help remember. A part of him hated that the trigger had to be his father. Looking at the files in front of him, he let out a deep breath. His eyes traveled down to the three signatures, his father's in particular. Excitement was not in his vocabulary, but secretly the truth was that he had been thrilled to work on this project with Morgan. His father just ruins everything just like he ruined his childhood. "What's with the frown on your face son?" Speak of the devil and he arrives. "Is that how I trained you? To ignore your elders?" Still, Ryke kept quiet. Richard pulled up a chair and sat opposite him. "How are you son?" And that was all it took for Ryke to snap, "Will you cut the crap out with the son?" Richard smiled, "Ah, he speaks. So tell me, what are you working on? Maybe your old man can help." "Just like you helped me with all my assignments?" "The

~Twelve years ago~"I don't want you to go out", Crystal whined, "Why can't you just stay here with me and celebrate your anniversary?"Jessica gave Eric a knowing look before bending her knee to reach Crystal's level."Sweetie you know your father and I love you and your brother very much, but this is our anniversary, a day to celebrate just how much we love each other."Six year old Crystal blinked confused, "So you don't love each other on other days?"Eric bent his knee too, "No my little swan, that is not what your mother is saying. We love each other everyday just as much as we love you and your brother but today is just an extra day to celebrate the love between us.""But you said you love us too. Why can't you celebrate with us?""Alright Snowflake, Logan came into the room, "I will make you a deal. You let Mum and Dad go on their date and on their way back they will get you all the chocolate and ice cream you want."Crystal's eyes sparkled, "Yay!!! Chocolate."Without a secon

"But I don't understand. Why would my parents adopt him?""Why didn't they tell me?""Does Logan know that he is adopted?"Christian sighed, "I don't have the answers to your questions. The only people that can answer that unfortunately are not alive.""But-"Ryke interrupted her, "Crystal. It has been a really long day. Why don't we just go home and we will figure the rest of it out?"He turned to Christian, "I need you to find out who is sending her those messages.""Of course. Crystal if I may, I think there is so much more to your parents death. If someone had them murdered, there is a possibility that-""Christian", Ryke warned."I'm sorry. I will leave and get started on tracking that number.""Thank you." Ryke and Crystal said at the same time.Crystal waited for Christian to leave before she asked, "Am I in danger?""No. But I will need you to keep your head low for the mean time. You will only go to school and then from school, you will go straight back home.""Okay.""Thank

Crystal glanced between the three of them before turning to Richard, "What are you talking about?"Richard stood in the doorway with a smug expression on his face."I don't have the answers. Why don't you ask them? Logan, why don't you start us off?"Logan took a step forward, clenching his fist, "Richard, what the hell are you talking about? Why would you accuse me of sending that picture of our mother to the press?"Richard chuckled condescendingly. "Oh, Logan, just do everyone a favor and spare us the lies."Crystal's eyes narrowed. "That's a lie, Richard! Logan loved our mother. He would never stoop so low as to exploit her memory like that."She turned to Logan, "Right Lo?"Logan hesitated for a moment, his eyes darting between Crystal and Richard. "Crystal.""No. Don't you dare say it. Do you know what that picture could have done if it was true? How my life would have capsized? Why would you do something like that? What the hell is going on?"Richard's eyes gleamed with satisf

Crystal opened her eyes, a scream tearing out. She looked around. Everything was so white and bright. "You are finally awake." Her eyes immediately went to Ryke. "What happened? Weren't we just on the plane?" "We were." She blinked confused, "Then how are we here?" Ryke uncrossed his leg, sitting up straight, "It was a slight malfunction like the pilot said and then you passed out." "But how did I get here and where are we? Ryke sighed, "We are in Paris and to answer the question of how we got there, I carried you like the prince charming to your Cinderella." Crystal narrowed her eyes at him," Don't mock me." He smiled, taking a sip of the drink in his hand and then suddenly memories from the plane came rushing in. Her eyes widened in horror. What the hell was she thinking? Her eyes went down to his fingers wrapped around the glass. The fingers that been inside her. "Fuck my finger", she heard his voice in her head. Ryke's smiled deepened as he watched her battle with h

There were hundreds of people passing by.Crystal tried to make her towards the man.Ryke held her back, "What do you think you are doing?"Before she could react, a sudden gust of wind swept through the narrow street, causing her father's figure to blur momentarily. When Crystal blinked, he was gone. Vanished into thin air.Crystal blinked. The man had disappeared from her sight. It wasn't possible that he was alive but she saw him. She couldn't mistake her father even in her dreams."Where is he? He was just standing there. I swear I saw him."She tried to move in that direction but Ryke stopped her, "Crystal your father is gone.""No. I just saw him. He is one of the reasons I wanted to come to Paris. He would tell me stories about it non stop and he told me when I was older he would take me so I could experience the city of love. It has to be him."Ryke l
