Kristen's POVThe pain in my head is earth-shattering when I flick my eyes open. It feels like someone repeatedly slammed a baseball bat against my head, the whole time I was asleep. My body feels like a jellyfish too and my throat is itchy, as if I have closely packed wounds seeking refuge there. I can't tell if it's in the early hours of morning or evening, but the day isn't as bright as it should be. I am perspiring, drenched in my own sweat. The sheet covers and the bed is equally soaked. My mouth stinks like it housed a dead mole for a couple of hours, and it's so gross because I've never lacked proper hygiene.Did something happen?Suddenly, it dawned on me what exactly happened.I mistook pure alcohol for an orange juice, almost drank it all. Now I can't remember anything.Where the hell is Calhoun? We were supposed to leave here and head back home to Mom, but because of my stupidity, we're still here. Or did he leave me all alone?Paid punches out of my lungs because there'

Kristen's POVMom tried to commit suicide through?I haven't been myself since Bruce broke the news, upon knowing it has to do with me. I believe I'll self-loathe until eternity. Fear and worry are getting the best of me. I am panicking because I can't lose her else I'll have no family at all. Bruce is taking me back in the car.Calhoun didn't waste a second after hearing what Bruce had to say, he shifted and ran all the way home. My vision is being blurred by tears right now, with my heart sick. I let Calhoun turn my phone off when I should've refrained him. Had I taken her calls, none of this occurrence would've happened. Nothing else matters right now, but Mom.When we reach Calhoun's estate, I sprint towards her room and push the doors open. There, I find Mom in bed with her eyes closed. She looks completely pale and lifeless that for a moment I am glued to my standing spot, with my heart doing skips.I don't want to think she's dead.Calhoun is kneeling beside her bed, he's h

Calhoun's POVOne month later. The annual Greyhound Ceremony came quicker than expected. My entire mansion has the perfect decorations that for a moment I have to pause and wonder if it's actually my place. My pack members always look forward to this day because it's celebrated yearly. All the Alphas under me and as well as their members are here to celebrate with us.Nana Joyce who has that perpetual giant scowl on her face seems different tonight. She's smiling momentarily as she converses with people, even stopping to compliment women. It's surprising to see her this way when she's always grumpy and seems to frighten people with it. Nevertheless, she's aging perfectly.I haven't seen my wife, Natalie. I'll take it that she's being dressed up by her maidservants. Ever since her near-drowning four weeks ago, she's been distant. Even though I apologized countless times and came up with stories as to why I was absent for two nights, she didn't buy any of it. Accused me of cheating with

Kristen's POVIt's morning and time for Public Speaking class. As usual, I am in the front pew of seats, waiting for our lecturer to show up, but it's been five minutes late and she hasn't shown up. I have two months left to complete my final semester at school, so I have my hands full aside from being bombarded with different projects.Someone slides into the empty space beside me, with their sweet-smelling cologne wafting my nostrils. From the smell, I already recognize the person before turning to meet them."Kristen," he calls my name with a contagious smile on his face."Hey, Ben," I mirror his expression, "you're a backbencher. Why are you here?""I wanted to sit next to you," he tucks a strand of hair behind my ear and puts his hand on my shoulder.Ben Gregory is the son of Alpha Norman from the Green-Valley pack, and the next in line to be Alpha after graduation. We take the same courses at times, he was friendly right from the beginning but kept his distance. Recently, he's s

Kristen's POVSeeing Calhoun regenerated emotions that I wanted to keep buried deep within me. Had I known he would be here on this yacht, I would've turned down Ben's invitation. It's been one month since the Rejection and just when I was trying to get over everything, I saw him again. Calhoun still has the audacity to hold my gaze as if we still share the mate bond. I avoided Mom because of him, upon feeling betrayed and guilty at the same time. Holding onto the yacht railings, I sigh as the yacht starts leaving the seaport. There's no going back now, mom has already seen me. If I told them I wanted to return by a small boat, people would think low of me. So I just have to stay here, watch Calhoun and my mom together. Old feelings never die, if they eventually did it shows that you never loved the person who you claimed to love. Calhoun looks good, the light green shirt and tight-fitted white trousers he's wearing make him look younger than his age. And the memory of our two
