Marco’s POV “Depends on what you mean by that, Marco. You never asked, remember?” Betty replies as Marco rushes to meet Sarah, who, for one, has a vague expression on, staring weakly at them both.“Get away from her,” Betty threatens, rushing into the dumped clothes by the sofa chair and leading Sarah out.“You know how worried I was that I lost her and yet you took advantage of the situation by forcing me to have—”“You think I was just going to stand back and watch your plan ruin everything I worked for? Please snap out of that and be thankful. I had to take her out of the hospital while you busied yourself with disguising as a doctor for an escape. So pathetic.”Marco falls silent as he watches Betty tuck Sarah back into bed. He doesn’t know how to feel. He really believed he lost her. But there’s something about this new Sarah. She doesn’t seem to recognize anyone. Especially him.“We’re taking you home, Maria. You’ll get enough rest now,” Betty tries to calm her down but Sarah s

Marco's POV“Hey...hey…it’s okay. I’m here now. I won’t hurt you. Remember our deal, right?” Marco tries to persuade her, his hands raised in the air in surrender.“I promised to take care of you…okay. Now give me the knife and let’s get you something to eat.”“NO! Get away from me.”“Please, Sarah. You’re bleeding,” Marco tries to plead, as he notices her arm drenched in her own blood with no idea how she sustained the injury.“I won’t hesitate to rip you apart if you come one step closer.”“Fine. I’m right here. I’m not moving,” Marco replies, staying still, his heart pounding heavily, as Sarah threatens him with the weapon that could harm her.“Will you give it to me now?”“Move…” she commands, “Lead the way out.” Marco stays his hands up, stepping out of the kitchen, backward.“Okay...See. I’m doing exactly as you say. Would you listen to me now?”“You’ll hurt me. You’re gonna kill me…” Sarah begins to panic.“Trust me, Sarah. I would never hurt you. I brought you here to protect

Chapter 26: Seeking Trust
Sarah Her captor is just before her. Weak and defenseless—terribly injured. This is the best time to run away, effortlessly. She reaches for his breast pocket, leaning forward, to pull out the keys with two fingers stretched to their limits. Unfortunately, it is the wrong key. She tosses the bunch over the bed checking for any other keys but finds none, except a few dollar notes. Using her toes to feel his trousers for a bump, she finally hears a clicking sound. With her toes, she tries to pull out the keys from his pocket, her face horror-stricken at the thought of him waking up at the same moment. The keys fall out of his pockets with a mild clash on the rugged floor while Marco remains lifeless. Heaving a sigh, she uses her toes to drag the keys, pulling them gradually towards her until they get to a point where her hands can comfortably reach. She picks it up with her left arm, hurriedly fitting it into the lock until it clicks open. Filled with surprise and horror she caresses

Chapter 27: distant families
SarahAnd once more, my abilities surprise me even more as I drive down to the bar. At this time of the night, when I expect the place to be deserted, I see people flocking in and out of a nearby bar while I pull over abruptly, knocking down a trash bin. Turning off the car engine, I step out, with Marco’s phone in my hands hoping to find Betty before I’m tempted to call. She seems to be the second person I can trust. Or at least that knows me enough. I’m desperately in need of some clearing out. The condition of my memory makes it difficult to think of the right decision. It feels strange to be among people, as I manipulate my way through the clumsy crowd, the stench of pipe and whiskey fills the entrance as I walk into the bar, my arms wrapped around my body. Everyone is too busy to notice me but I feel so exposed after weeks of being in confinement.“There you are. You aren’t a bad driver after all,” I hear a voice call out, startling me as I feel a tap on my shoulder. Turning aro

Sarah I stare at the navigation screen, then the voice adds, “Stay right where you're. I'll come get you.” A beep follows immediately after and I'm left with a black screen and the thumping of my heart, waiting in silence for God knows who. I take another peep out.
