So, the diamond has been in that cell for decades, and no one thought to look!! They did explain how the cells were destroyed after their escape leaving everything to rot. People assume they took it as they fled the kingdom. My parents never checked or tried to check if there was anything here under the rumble. It was like they didn't care.
