"Liam, you can't say that. Blood is thicker than water, don't you know? If you didn't want me to be part of your family, why'd you marry our dear Lia in the first place?""Are you hoping that I'll divorce her?" Liam narrowed his eyes at David as he dealt him a threatening look. "Y-You've been married for three years already!" David exclaimed, starting to get a little scared. If Liam and Amelia were to get divorced, he would lose his only source of income."What does that matter?"After Liam said that, David's face instantly paled along with Amelia's.Amelia suddenly recalled Ava's words from last night. Who knew that Liam would suddenly bring up divorce the next day?She stared at the man next to her, feeling extremely out of sorts. They had shared a bed just last night. Liam had even suggested that they should have a baby together. She had dismissed it as a passing joke, but when she heard him casually mention getting divorced now, it sent a chill down her spine."Y-You're a w

When Amelia saw the familiar figure, she couldn't help but feel puzzled. She wondered what Ava was doing here.Come to think of it, she hadn't seen Ava for a long while. There were still news articles about her online lately, but they were few and far between compared to when she used to hang around Liam all the time. Most of the news about Ava was old.Amelia's phone rang. She checked it and saw Sarah's name on the screen.Sarah was David's wife. Her aunt had never called her before this, so Amelia figured that it definitely had something to do with David.Sure enough, Sarah asked about David as soon as she answered the call."Hello, Lia. I heard that your uncle got beaten up. How serious is it? Is he in critical condition?" Sarah asked.Amelia tightened the grip on her phone. "Well, the doctor has already examined him. He took a heavy blow to the head, but his X-ray showed no signs of additional trauma. He's sustained some superficial injuries, and his foot's in a cast. He shou

It had been a while since David asked Amelia for money. She figured it was probably due to his injuries and the fact that he couldn't go out to gamble since he was in the hospital. That, or perhaps it was because he still had a lot of money on him. Even so, he continued to boss Amelia around whenever she visited him at the hospital."Get me some water."Peel me an apple."Buy me a pack of cigarettes! I want the expensive ones!"After running errands for David a couple of times, the other patients in the ward started to pay more attention to Amelia. Amelia assumed that they looked at her more because she had been around a lot, so she didn't pay them much attention. It wasn't until she returned with some hot water for David one time and overheard David's conversation with the other patients that she found out why the atmosphere in the ward always felt off. She finally realized why everyone kept staring at her."Dude, is your niece really Liam Prescott's wife? I didn't even know t

Sarah's furious voice made Amelia feel taken aback. How could Liam have gotten David beaten up? How was that possible?"Sarah, I know what you're trying to do. All you want is to extort more money out of me, but you shouldn't throw accusations around!" Amelia exclaimed. She couldn't believe it. Someone as arrogant as Liam wouldn't stoop so low as to order people to beat her uncle up.Sarah yelled angrily through the phone, "How dare you say that I'm extorting money from you! Amelia Jenson, you're so ungrateful! Liam's never cared about you, yet you're still so eager to speak up for him. He's sleeping with other women, for god's sake. It doesn't matter how much you care about him! He doesn't give a damn about you!"Even though Sarah was only telling her the truth, her bluntness made Amelia feel hurt and angry."Can you stop bringing that up all the time?""Why should I? It's not like I'm wrong! Your husband got someone to beat up your uncle, yet you don't even have the basic decen

Amelia hung her head low, keeping silent. She knew that she had angered Liam."Why'd you get so quiet all of a sudden? You were running your mouth earlier, weren't you?" Amelia had talked so much and even said that she knew about what had really happened, but what the fuck did she know?Startled by his raised voice, Amelia began to tremble. She had always been afraid of him. Now that Liam was angry, she was even more fearful of the man. However, her flinching only fueled Liam's anger.Grabbing her hand forcefully, he yelled, "Why are you shaking? Did I hit you or curse at you? Why are you so scared? How are you so timid and weak? You're unworthy of being a Prescott!"The person in his memories was never this timid. She was always elegant and dignified, earning everyone's respect.Amelia's heart clenched as she recalled what Ember had said. She suddenly felt aggrieved and smacked his hand away swiftly. "That's right. I'm cowardly and weak. I'm not worthy of being your wife! That'
