Chapter 21: A New Contract
Charlotte stayed in her room for the remainder of the day after her outburst. She didn't even emerge for dinner time. She was incredibly frustrated with Lord Hunt and had no idea what to think of the whole ordeal. Everything had taken a turn that she hadn't expected. While she was grateful to have more of an opportunity to get to know Lord Hunt this way, she also wasn't sure about his motives. There was some interest on both ends, but no clear stance on how deep it went or if it would go any further than it already had. It only added to the confusion she felt that he would go and abruptly dismiss all the other servants. That just didn't make sense to Charlotte. She understood finding out who had been behind destroying her room and ruining her things, but to cut all twelve of the others seemed a bit drastic. There must be something serious going on in Lord Hunt's mind. Something that she hadn't been able to understand. Thinking it over, part of her wanted to believe that he had done

Chapter 22: Making Adjustments
The knock on Charlotte's bedroom door the next morning came as a surprise. She knew that Lord Hunt did not wake in the early hours.. It didn't make much sense then for someone to be knocking at her door. Charlotte knew that they were the only ones present in the castle now since he had dismissed everyone else. She almost rolled over to go back to sleep until the knock persisted. Unable to ignore it, she finally got herself out of bed and moved to open the door. Pulling it open, she was surprised to find a middle-aged woman standing on the other side. She was dressed in a plain gray dress, her graying hair tied back into a low ponytail. The woman didn't seem at all bothered by Charlotte's shock to see her, she merely smiled at her and gave her a short bow. "Good morning, I will be your maid. Breakfast will be ready soon My Lady," she said, and then after the short introduction, moved past her to begin her work. Speechless, Charlotte watched as the woman went around the room, tidyi

Chapter 23: Unexpected Visitor
Charlotte didn't want to make it too obvious that she was curious about their unexpected guest. Even though she still wanted answers from Lord Hunt, her curiosity was enough for the moment to set those issues aside. Despite the fact that she was in the middle of a tangled mess with Lord Hunt, she still had a passion for history. This Lord Vincent Eclaire had a part he played in Lord Hunt's past, that much she had figured out from both the things that Lord Hunt told her and what she was able to find about him. It was for that reason that when Lord Hunt stood abruptly to rush off and follow after his new employee, Charlotte hung back a little bit. She waited until he went down the pathway before she followed them. Honestly, she wasn't sure if he would have allowed her to go along with him if she had asked or not. So instead of asking, she had just decided to follow and listen in on whatever conversation she might be able to catch between them. As quietly as she was able, she followed

Chapter 24: Lesson Three
An argument broke out behind her, she could hear the voices echoing in the hall while she ran down the corridor. She should have seen it while she was doing her research. There had been photographs of Lady Bennett in the files she found. It hadn't occurred to her then though that she might look like her in any way. After hearing what Lord Eclaire said about it, she regretted coming here at all. All of this hurt could have been avoided if she'd just never come to Willow Creek to begin with. It would be easy for her to just pack what things she had and leave, in theory. However, things only took a complicated turn when she gave into the hidden desires she held the night they shared together. Whether it was all fueled by the heat of the moment or his physical appearance, or even if it was because she had started to truly enjoy his company, it all made leaving very difficult now. Why? Because Charlotte didn't want to just leave, there was a part of her that wanted to believe it was mor

Chapter 25: Murder of Willow Creek
Dinner started out in silence. Charlotte felt a little awkward sitting across the dining table from Lord Eclaire. Their plates were brought out to them by the kitchen staff that Lord Hunt had hired. Which was another oddity for Charlotte. She had only just gotten used to sharing the table with twelve other people and the plates having been passed down the line until everyone had one in front of them. The table felt empty now that she sat at it alone, even with Lord Eclaire there. He was nothing more than a stranger to her though, which might explain why she felt that way. The meal that was prepared was perfect. She couldn't have asked for better cuisine in a five-star restaurant. It seemed like Lord Hunt had done well to ensure that his staff was highly skilled. That was a little impressive to her, since she knew that the vampires didn't need to consume food to survive. While they could eat, it was more or less an act of being human than it was beneficial for them. In which case, it

Chapter 26: Marked
Charlotte closed her eyes as the pain of Lord Hunt's bite washed through her. It stung like any other bite, but there was a rush behind it too. She had no idea how long he kept his fangs pressed into her skin, so by the time he started to ease the angry wound, it felt like several minutes had gone by. She struggled to get away from him before but as his lips and tongue moved to soothe the bite, Charlotte found herself clinging to him. The bite on her neck ended up being much more sensitive than the one on her shoulder. There wasn't anything she could do to try and stop the shuddering that kept running down her back the longer his touch lasted. With each reaction to his touch, she could feel the tingling start to pick up. It was the same sensation that she felt on the night she asked Lord Hunt to stay with her. She was back in the same place she had been then, wishing to feel more of him and not necessarily wanting it to end. The urge only became stronger now that she knew how his k

Chapter 27: The Final Lesson
Charlotte was escorted out of the room by Lord Eclaire, who insisted she come with him so that she could hear the conclusion to the story. She complied quietly, but couldn't help to look over her shoulder. Her mind was swimming with everything that had just happened. The brief discussion she had with Lord Hunt on his feelings towards her and then finding out she had been marked. It contradicted itself in the sense that if she was only there to replace a memory or if he had real feelings for her. She almost felt like he did it out of jealousy. Those thoughts she would have to push to the back of her mind. Charlotte had already decided that she would first learn the rest of their past before she tried to make sense of anything going on between herself and Lord Hunt. That meant that she needed to focus on figuring out the rest of this mystery instead of her own personal thoughts or feelings. A task that was proving harder and harder to do the longer she spent time in the castle with Lor

Chapter 28: Fit of Jealousy
"This would go a lot faster if you'd stop interrupting," Lord Eclaire responded. He turned to Lord Hunt, finally sounding irritated after all the threats he'd been given. "I came because you've had enough time. It's getting late," Lord Hunt growled. "But I can see I've made a mistake. Step away from her." "Jealous Rodrick? Maybe you should have done a better job at claiming her, but you're so stuck in the past you couldn't do that, could you?" Lord Eclaire snapped back. He had stepped away from her, but remained facing Lord Hunt. "What's happened between us is none of your concern. If my way of living bothers you so much, you could have left at any point in time," Lord Hunt replied, his glare more intense. Charlotte stood watching their argument unfold. She could tell that a fight was on the brink of breaking out. Never in her life would she have imagined two vampires arguing over her. It wasn't flattering for her though, not in the slightest bit. The way that they talked about

Chapter 29: An Apology
Charlotte was able to get Lord Hunt back inside and to his room with the help of a couple castle staff. She wasn't sure she'd be able to help him all that way when the hours had just ticked away and left her more sleep deprived. It had to be late in the night by now, which probably put dawn just a few hours away. By the time they arrived at Lord Hunt's room, Charlotte was starting to feel the exhaust from the day's events. It was too soon to go to sleep yet, she still intended to tend to his wounds. At least that might stop or slow the bleeding while they healed. "How long do wounds this deep usually take to heal?" Charlotte asked. The staff members settled him in one of the armchairs near the fireplace, at his request. She had just rounded the front of the chair to get a better look at the wounds. "It will likely take about four weeks to heal completely. He got me pretty good. if he'd done more damage, I might be out of commission even longer," Lord Hunt replied. His speech was st

Chapter 30: Confronting a Murderer
After she finished bandaging Lord Hunt's wounds, she helped him to the bed. An easier feat for her, considering the distance was considerably less. Sleep came quickly after she got settled into the bed next to him. It wasn't until after she laid down that she realized just how tired she was. By the time she woke the next afternoon, Lord Hunt was soundly asleep next to her. She knew that he would be out for the next several hours, perhaps longer since he was wounded. There was no doubt that she had missed the first meal of the day and possibly even the morning maid that had stopped in to clean up the mess from the night before. Charlotte noted by the fact that the basket was gone from where she had left it beside the chair. She quietly slipped out from under the sheets, careful not to disturb Lord Hunt. It would probably be a good idea to go and see if she could at least have lunch since she hadn't eaten since the night before. The words that Lord Hunt spoke to her the night before
