Chapter 31: The Next Step
“Daisy?” Lucas scoffed and rolled his eyes. “What about her? She becomes more of a nuisance by the day. We don’t even sleep in the same bed, let alone live together. The most we do is go out for date nights but even then it’s nothing exciting. It’s a waste of my time.” he grumbles like a grumpy old man but Aria could still see the hint of doubt in his eyes. She wasn’t sure how deep the story goes but she knew that it had to do with his father’s company. He wasn’t in a contract marriage for nothing.Aria couldn’t shrug Daisy off as easily as Lucas could. “The woman is still dating to be wedded to you, Lucas. If the people that worked for your father see what kind of man you’ve become, the kind that spends time with other women, how do you think that’ll make your father look?”Lucas grimaced and looked away. As she thought, he couldn’t just brush off his new fiance so easily. Even if he wasn’t the heir anymore, he still had a reputation to keep for his father’s sake. He still looked at

Chapter 32: Last warning ️
Lucas glared down at his phone with frustration over his last call. Mason had always had his back in the past, they always had each other’s backs. Why had the tables suddenly turned? Is Mason on his uncle’s side now? Or could it be that Davis is forcing Mason to act against him?He ran his hand through his hair as he tried to collect himself. Davis wasn’t happy when he heard about what happened between him and his so-called fiance. At first, as expected, Lucas didn’t care one bit until what Mason had just told him.“If I don’t make a better effort to make my marriage with Daisy look real then I’ll be sacrificing my job at my own father’s company and likely sell it off to Daisy’s father? That can’t be right…” Lucas kept his thoughts off of his tongue. The only thing that mattered right now was making a better impression.Mason had called him to report that his uncle needed to see him and it was not good news. Not to mention that Lucas is currently late for work since he overslept at Ar

Chapter 33: The Worst Kind Of Betrayal
“Do I make myself clear?” Davis questioned his nephew while entwining his fingers and leaning over his desk. Lucas kept his eyes on the floor without giving a response. How could he possibly accept things as they stand? He had already made promises and vows to help Aria no matter what. Was everything he said about to be in vain? Aria’s old bandmates won’t even allow her, they’re all spread out and given up on singing. So who would stand beside her and clear her name?Lucas’s thoughts were interrupted when Davis barked his words loudly with aggression. “SPEAK, boy!”The former heir flinched again. He wasn’t used to seeing his uncle like this and it was somewhat startling. One thing was for certain, his father’s brother wasn’t fooling around with him. He meant business. And how far Davis was willing to go to get what he wanted, Lucas did not know and he didn’t want to find out either. “...I understand,” Lucas muttered while still avoiding eye contact. His voice was deep and low, showi

Chapter 34: Untold Secrets
Mason’s silence turned from annoying to worrisome. The look in the man’s dimly lit eyes expressed that not only was he hiding something, but he was also afraid of something as well. “Mason?” Lucas’s voice changed into a lighter one as he took a step closer to the quiet man.Mason’s hung head quickly lifted again and he forced a smile on his dry lips. “I’ve been talking to a woman lately. I’m sorry that I got defensive. After my wife divorced me, this is a little difficult for me and I’m trying to put myself back out there.”Lucas stared at him for a few seconds as he tried to read his thoughts through his expression alone. His smile was forced. Though his words made sense, of course trying to get used to being in a relationship again after his nasty divorce would leave anybody a nervous wreck because their trust would’ve been shattered almost beyond repair. And yet, something about it just felt awful. It had to have been the look in Mason’s eyes that was making it hard for Lucas to b

Chapter 35: Bad To Worst
Lucas was confused by Mason’s sudden reaction instead of answering his question. He could see distinct fear clutch his heart so tight that it could stop right then and there. Lucas spun around to see what had startled his best friend so badly and he was surprised when he saw it was only his doctor that he spoke to over his amnesia. His doctor gave that warm smile that he usually had on his face when speaking to anybody. “Hello Mr. Augustine, Mr. Miller. How are you both doing today?”Lucas couldn’t help but feel perplexed over the situation but he still forced a smile onto his lips as well before speaking. “It’s been the usual. Go to work, go home, occasionally see a woman, go to bed, go back to work.” he had a hint of sarcasm in his voice as he spoke. When he said occasionally sees a woman he didn’t make it clear whether or not he was talking about his fiance or the woman that everyone has been trying to prevent him from seeing. “How about you, doc?”His doctor for amnesia’s smile c

Chapter 36: Promises Unpaid Punishment
Lucas could feel himself immediately sweat when he came face to face with the three shady people that his uncle hired once again. Only this time they showed their true colors. Nonetheless, Lucas did his best to remain calm and in control of both himself and the situation.“The money? Are you all seriously bothering me over that? Look, I told you that I’d give you the rest of it once I get it! I have my hands busy right now. Now, if you’ll excuse me–” The woman quickly held the metal baseball bat up to point at his skull. “Nah, ah, ah… not so fast. Our hands are busy as well and we could use the cash to get our hands unbusy.” her eyes narrowed dangerously. “Give us everything you got on you.” Lucas’s jaw dropped in shock and he protested immediately. “You can’t be serious! I don’t even have half of what you need back!”“Stop flapping your lips and give us all of your money!” The man beside the woman with the baseball bat finally spoke up in a deep bark, making Lucas flinch since he w

Chapter 37: In Debt With Words
“Lucas?” Aria questioned him again when he didn’t respond to her right away, the startled expression on his face told her that he wasn’t coming to see her. It looked like he was attempting to avoid her. This confused her further since ever since his first day walking into the building, he had only gone out of eagerness to see her. The only reason she could think of for him not to see her and look guilty when she caught him was that he was either here to see somebody else or he was going to spy on her from afar. The latter seemed less likely.Lucas was at a loss for words and even tried to avoid her eyes when he spoke. “I was… I’m here to see somebody.” he then looked back at her and flashed her one of his charming grins. “Did I disappoint you?”Aria blushed and looked away shyly. “Mr. Augustine, I’m at work…” she mumbled under her breath as she tried her best to remain professional and not get flustered. The other man who was attracted to her shot Lucas a glare as he walked over to h

Chapter 38: The Envious Of All
“Roxanne…?” Aria whispered to herself as her heart pounded in her chest from overhearing things that weren’t meant for her ears. Not only did her heart race in her chest but it also throbbed in pain to the point it felt like it was shattering. She could feel tears begin to bead up in the corner of her eyes and she leaned away from the door, she couldn’t bear to hear any more of the conversation between her cruel, selfish boss and the man that she was slowly starting to form affection for.“What was I hoping for in the first place? The man has amnesia, he’d probably assume that I’m just taking advantage of that…” Aria thought to herself as she wiped her eyes with her wrists. Even though she kept telling herself that it was okay because it never would’ve worked out anyway, not if he remembered everything about their past together, it still hurt. And she felt like a fool for hurting in the first place. “I should’ve just ignored his flirts and made it very clear that I’m not interested in
