LucyAfter the test was over, things kind of went back to normal. A few days passed and I could focus on my studies again. One day, while I was heading home from the college campus, I ran into David. He was dressed in a three-piece suit. His hair was slicked back and he looked a little angry while he was on the phone. The moment he saw me, the anger vanished and his entire expression brightened. My heart fluttered as he finished his call and walked towards me. “You look… official,” I said. “Is everything okay?”He nodded. “Pack stuff. It’s done now. Done with classes?”I nodded. “They let us out early today.”“Care for lunch?” He asked. “You have afternoon classes, right? We don’t have to go far.”My stomach grumbled and I wrinkled my nose. I nodded. “Sounds great… We don’t have to get on a bus, do we? I’d hate for your

LucyAs I walked across the campus, the warm afternoon sun cast a golden glow on the surroundings. I couldn't help but smile, swinging the bag carrying the shoes that David had bought me. The spiciness of the taco was still tingling on my tongue, but I couldn’t be happier. I sat in my usual seat, looking at the bag. My thoughts drifted to a time long ago when David and I were just children at the orphanage. We didn't have much, but we made the best of what we had.I remembered there were days we would play outside, running barefoot on the grass to make sure that our shoes lasted a little longer. When there were new shoes to pass out, David always gave me the better shoes, even if it meant he had to go without.I smiled at the thought and how far we’d come. In my mind, I could still see him as a little boy gluing the soles of his shoes back together or tying them together with shoelaces from old shoes. The day that I had been adopted, I&rs

DavidAs I drove down the familiar streets towards my home, my mind was still preoccupied with thoughts of Lucy. Her infectious laughter echoed in my ears, and I couldn't help but smile. It was just like it had been when we were kids but better. I didn’t have to tape or glue shoes together to give her something better to walk on. I could just provide for her. My wolf growled with a deep sense of satisfaction at the thought. I was an alpha and I was providing for someone I cared about. Someone I loved. When I thought about how her eyes sparkled when she laughed, a wide grin stretched across my face. Things were going well between us. I still didn't have her phone number or any way to directly contact her outside of the school system. I couldn't help but wonder when she would finally share it with me, but I pushed that thought aside. Lucy had been through a lot. She deserved the space to get her bearings before taking on any more stress.P

LucyAfter Duke, Amy, and Michelle dropped me off back at the dorms, I tried to get my mind off everything. It was just too much to think about, and if I kept dwelling on it, I’d never get anything done, so I got into my room, locked my door, and pulled out all of my textbooks and notes. The GED test would be at the end of the month. I would figure out how to get my grades corrected so that I could sit for the test, but I had to be sure that I would pass it first, or I really would have to take the class all over again. I started with my math homework, going back over my notes and hoping that O As much as I tried to focus on the math problems, the numbers and letters started to blend together. My mind felt hazy. I tried to fight the sleepiness and focus, but the lines grew blurry, and soon, everything wen t dark. When I opened my eyes again, I found myself running through a dense forest. It wasn’t the same forest from my visions, but so

LucyI entered the campus coffee shop; a woman twirled her finger in the air, making a line of coffee pots rotate in the air before she greeted me. Then, I saw Duke. He lifted his hand, looking as tired as I felt. I crossed the room to him and looked up at the menu. “My treat. You like chocolate, right?” “You don’t have to.”He waved his hand. “Go find us a booth away from windows.”I hesitated as he stepped up to order, but I did as he asked, finding a small booth at the back of the café away from the windows and the baristas. Soon, he joined me at the table. He set one of the tall cups in front of me and set his own cup in front of his seat as he sunk into the booth across from me. With a flick of his wrist, Duke whispered a few i
