Chapter 21
On getting to Asher's home, it was different from what I remembered. This house was smaller than the one I woke up on the day I got drunk.‘You like It?’ Asher asked, referring to his house. He had gotten out of the car. He was walking towards the trunk to take down our bags. ‘yeah but this wasn't the house I remember.’ I replied walking to the trunk to help him with the bags.‘it's fine.’ He replied holding the bags himself.‘You moved?’ I asked, wanting to know why he left his beautiful mansion for a smaller one.‘yeah. My mom broke into my house. I wanted to escape her.’ He took the bags and started walking towards the door. ‘let me help you open the door. What's the password?’ I wanted to help since he was holding our bags.‘97865342.’ He replied.‘Does it have any meaning behind It?’ I asked, punching the numbers. People normally have reasons behind their house passwords. For some, it can be their birth date, for others it can be the date of an important family event. Garrett u

Asher pov After the meeting I went to my office and called the tech guy. He still couldn't get the footage for that day.‘Do you think it was deleted?’ I asked"It wasn't sir. If it was, I would have been able to restore it. It wasn't deleted sir.’ ‘So why do you think it can't play out what happened that day?’‘I think it might have been deactivated that day sir. Someone must have turned off the camera that day.’It confirmed my suspicions. Someone from the company was involved in Henry’s sham. I had spoken to Mr Lee Yang the other day and he had advised me to hold a meeting and threaten them. That the rat is bound to quiver in fear. He however told me not to reveal what it was that Henry took. At the meeting I tried searching their faces for hints of fear or anything that would satisfy my suspicion but I found none. Their faces were filled with questions and worse confirmation that I wasn't capable of handling my father’s businesses. Henry has been quiet for now. Who knows wh

Lorie's povI must be out of my mind. Why did I hug him?Perhaps because he had looked so lonely he could use a hug.Worse of all I giggled.Arrgg why did I hug my boss? We had become a bit closer than before since our return from Dubai, but that didn't change the fact that he was my boss and I might get into trouble for being intimate with him.I retrieved the call.‘You can let him up, Miss Cynthia.’ ‘alright. You can go up now.’ She said to Henry. I hung up.I sat down arranging the files on my desk not wanting to pay any attention to Henry when he came up.‘nice to meet you again Miss.’ His voice was just as I remembered ‘boyish.’‘welcome Mr Kingston.’ I replied after trying to pretend that he didn’t exist.‘don't act all cold and distant. The last time I checked we danced.’ He gave me his boyish grin showing off his dimples.‘last time I check it didn't end well. Moreover my job is being threatened I wonder who's responsible.’ I returned his smile, giving a very fake smile sh

Chapter 24
When I got home, the house was noisy. There seems to be a party going on. The music was blaring and I could hear the screams of ladies and guys enjoying themselves in their drunken state. I knocked knowing I'm wasting my time. He wasn't going to hear me. I turned the door knob and thankfully the door gave way.I walked in trying to avoid bumping bodies. The air was filled with the smell of drugs, vomit and alcohol. I wrinkled my nose to avoid inhaling the offensive odor. I spotted Garrett on the couch with two ladies massaging his naked chest while one sat on his lap grinding against him. I shook my head. I really wasn't going to sit on that couch again. On getting to my room I opened the door without warning and I regret ever doing so.‘what the fuck! Can't you knock.’ The naked man on my bed pulled the sheet around his waist for cover. I turned my eyes away avoiding the stark naked woman laying on my bed.‘hmm this is my room. I don't deem it fit to knock before entering my room.

Chapter 25
The traffic was horrible coupled with horns and shouts from drivers. I wasted 40 extra minutes on the road and got to the office late. The heat on the bus combined with the stench of sweat was unbearable. At this point, I wished to have my car. If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. The man sitting beside me reeked of alcohol as though he had a wild night and dressed up this morning for work without proper cleanup. He was trying his best to start a conversation with me, not minding the fact that I was by no means interested in a chitchat.‘It's quite busy this morning.’ He started. ‘yes.’‘You know, being your own boss is kinda chic, you know.’ He said again. But then he was dressed in a suit and his ID showed that he was a government worker.‘hmm.’ ‘where do you work?’ ‘around.’‘are you vast in the business sector?’I shook my head hoping it would pass my message across that I wasn't interested in talking to him. He continued without minding my lack of interest.‘okay.. You

Asher’s povMy eyes watched my mother as she walked around my office touching what her eyes captured. I waited for her to say what made her visit.‘What brings you here mother?’ I finally asked when she said nothing.‘Why did you leave your house?’ She asked instead.‘I don't feel safe there anymore.’ She eyed me with concern.Since when? did the paparazzi find out you live there?’ ‘no paparazzi. It's since when you and Sabrina broke into my house.’‘Don't make such a fuse about that. Perhaps if I had given me a key I wouldn't have broken into your house. I have every right to come to your house when I want to.’‘I'm not giving you the key to my house.’‘I wouldn’t disturb you if you gave me a grandchild, Asher.’‘Mother now is not the time for this kind of talk.’‘I am not getting younger Asher.’‘really? You look twenty. You could pass as my younger sister.’‘I'm not in the mood for jokes.' She said sternly but her cheeks were red.‘I told you to give me some time. I just took ove

Lorie povAsher had refused to let me work for Henry and I couldn't understand why. The day had been going very slow as we went from one boring meeting to another. Thankfully it was near closing time. I arranged my bag in preparation to visit the hospital. I haven't seen them since my return from the business trip in Dubai.I walked to Jasmine’s office to chat away time. She was sitting on her chair checking her nails. ‘hey Jas.’ I greeted making myself comfortable on her desk.‘hi babes.’ She replied, dropping her nails. ‘You visited the nail salon.’ My eyes went to her newly polished nails painted in pink and white. It looked cute. Jasmine style.‘I don't like the nails. I wanted a darker shade of pink.’ She murmured, still eyeing her finger nails.‘but this looks dark enough to me though.’dark?! This looks like pastel pink.’ She shrieked. ‘oh really?’ I am not a color freak like Jasmine. She loves the color pink. ‘how can you be so color blind?’ she groaned, grabbing her hair.

Garrett was dressed when I got home. Seems like he has been waiting for me. His eyes were looking angry. Garrett was not the type to wait. Cautiously I locked the door behind me. ‘where the hell have you been?’ He thundered.‘I went to the hospital.’ I replied quietly.‘I vividly recall telling you to come home early today. You don't just listen.’ He was pacing around with his hands on his waist.‘I'm sorry.’ I mumbled not wanting to offend him any further.‘You screened my call. You fucking screened my call. Where were you when you couldn't pick up your phone? Were you fucking him? Aren't I enough for you?’ He was coming closer to me, making me shift away. Soon I was resting my back on the door and his hands went up to the door caging me in. I shivered because of the cold. Wearing rain soaked clothes does that to you.‘I'm sorry I didn't hear my phone ring.’ I reached for my bag searching for my phone. I tapped the screen. It came on. The time was 8:10, and I had a missed call from

Chapter 29
The rain had started again. It was always raining. I stared blankly through glass walls. I don't hate the rain and I don’t like it either. I only hate the sogginess and cold it leaves behind. The day started as any other normal work day. My co-workers do what they do best; gossiping yet pretending to work when their supervisors glance at their way or pass by. I was getting bored. I had finished the paper work on my desk faster than I expected and it seems my boss had been avoiding me since our heated exchange in his office for reasons best known to him. He didn't send for me nor did he ask me to search for any files nor attend any meetings with him. He had asked for two days to come up with another solution that doesn't involve me working for his enemy. He barely came out of his office. In fact he comes before everyone and leaves after everyone. Or maybe he sleeps in the office, who knows? His blinds were always closed.I walked to the kitchen to find snacks to nibble on and coffee

He stared at the screen before finally accepting the call.‘what do you want?’ His voice was so cold.‘pleasant day to you too.’ I could hear him. The phone was loud.Asher didn't say anything but his hands had balled into fists. His last meeting with Henry hadn't ended well. ‘I wanted to ask if you have considered my offer.’ He said.‘I thought I made my thoughts about your offer clear the other day.’‘You know, you don't have a choice.’ I could imagine his face right now. He must be smirking. ‘who says I don't?’ I stared at Asher. Does he have a plan?‘oh, I can save you the stress and go to the tax office tomorrow.’‘I will get back to you.’ He hung up.‘do you have a plan?’ I asked when he said nothing. ‘no, I don't. But I won’t let Henry know that.’I stared at his face, searching for the reassurance that he knew what he was doing. He slowly let go of my waist, his eyes not meeting mine.‘get back to work. Those files are on my desk, no, not the one you just brought. The ones
