Sasha and I walk into the living room to find our newest members scattered across the sofa, their attention on the big screen before them. When they notice our presence, one of them, a young girl with sharp green eyes, her blonde hair cut so short it almost gives her a boyish appearance, peels away from the group and approaches Sasha and me. She gets on one knee before me, bends her head, with one of her hands resting on her knees. “I want to be your eaglet,” she states boldly. It is customary in Eagles House for the most senior members to pick a new student to mentor. The other girls gasp at her boldness. We pick out eaglets, not the other way round. I look down at the girl, my eyes assessing her. She doesn't flinch at my piercing stare, which is impressive, but her arrogance irritates me.
