The intense pressure that emanated from William stunned my father, who could only choose to submit in the face of a member of the royal family of superior blood. He looked at me with an appeal, and I turned away from him.                 "Emily, I need to talk to you privately." My father's hand, still clasped by William, said to me in a pleading tone, "I respect your choice, but this is not your business alone, don't you need to consult your mother?" "                   Using my mother as a shield again, my father really knew me well, he knew my weaknesses. As much as I hated what he was doing, I had to give in.                  "William, please give me and my family a little time!" I looked at William, "My father is right, it's not my business alone!" "                   William let go of my father's wrist, and there was a hint of solicitude in his eyes that was distinctly unsympathetic to my family conversation. Was he afraid I might change my mind?
