Visions (part 3)
[Rosalynd] “Where are we,” I ask Evander as he holds onto me.  “I’m not exactly sure, “ he admits.  The scene before us is a pleasant one. We are in a house of sorts, although it feels like something much bigger, somewhere between a traditional home and a conference hall. The room where we are standing is large and full of light and warmth with a homey, lived-in feeling. The hardwood floors gleam with fresh polish and colorful rugs add a touch of softness to the otherwise hard lines of the space. Looking out the floor-to-ceiling windows, I notice the yard is lightly forested, more urban than the dense redwoods on Axel's property.

Faerie Bells
[Axel] “Silver bells….silver bells…It’s Christmas time in the city….” I wake up singing out of tune. It is way too soon to be thinking about Christmas. We haven’t even had Halloween yet.  Pinching the bridge of my nose, I attempt to sit up but settle for just propping myself up a bit against a stack of pillows. My head is pounding and my ears are ringing, the light in my room almost unbearable. “Never again,” I say to no one in particular. My wolf, Conner, chuckles. “I told you to stop at two,” he laughs at my pain. Since I’m in control of my body at the mom

Family Connections
[Gideon] Axel’s grandmother must have been a very interesting wolf if what I’m seeing in this trunk is any indication. Axel’s family line looks a lot more diverse than one might suspect from Axel himself. Maybe that is why he was drawn so strongly to Rosie, and how she could be his second-chance mate. I have a feeling that even if he had still been mated with his ex-wife, Rosalynd’s claim would have been stronger. Axel certainly has a very interesting family tree.  But how do I tell Axel how interesting his lineage is without warping his whole sense of reality? I mean, I guess I could let Evander be the one to tell him…although something tells me that the news might come better from someone who is not Fae.

Legacy
[Axel] "Not possible," I shake my head vigorously. This crazy witch has no idea what he is talking about. I knew my Grandmother. She was a wolf. She had a wolf form. She birthed several powerful wolves, including my father. There is no way she was a faerie. "She was a witch and a wolf. Everyone knows that." "Oh really," I want to wipe the smug look off of Gideon's face. Even when he is trying to look helpful he comes across as a bit of an arrogant ass. "I don't deny she had some witch powers, but I don't think she was actually a witch. These items are too old. Like almost immortally old. A witch hybrid wouldn't have lived long enough to have anything this ancient." Taking a look again at the two pi

Fae Blood
[Axel] “Okay, hold up,” I stare at Gideon, my face frozen in shock. “You can’t just drop something like that on a person. How on Earth can my grandmother be alive? She was old when I was a kid. AT least 65-70 years old. She died 20 years ago. That would make her around what, 95? 100? No way. She was a tough old wolf but no.” “Your father is nearing 70 and would you expect him to die soon?” Gideon presses. “He’s still one of the most powerful Alphas in the pack. Strong enough that you trusted him to guard your pack children and elderly. Does he look anywhere as old or frail as the other elders?” I never really thought about how special my f

What Faerie Wants
[Rosalynd] My heart soars with the knowledge that both Gideon and Axel will be joining us soon. I hadn’t realized how much I had missed them both in such a short time. Evander and I have had months here together, but he warns me that time moves differently between the realms. Fae live so much longer than humans, that it is no bother for us to live in Faerie at a speed that seems twice as fast as Earth. If anything, it gives us an advantage. When it takes your children 50 years to reach maturity, it wouldn’t hurt if that time could be cut in half by human standards. And when you are near immortal, time starts to mean nothing anyway. Evander and I have grown much closer since the Oracle dropped us back at home. We needed to go on that journey together, to see the truth of

Hot and Bothered
[Evander] “Evander, this is a terrible time to have a child.” “I know,” I try to take a step away from her, but instead I grasp her closer. I am already so drunk with her scent, that it would be so easy to lose control. “So why would Faerie demand it of us now?” She looks genuinely confused. “What advantage could we have with me being potentially pregnant? Wouldn’t I be weaker? More easily harmed?” “Actually…” I start to tell her about our fae traditions, of how our priests would often go out to battle with child, the child’s soul strengthening their own, making them st

Making Up
[Rosalynd] “Rosie…” Evander reaches out to grab my hand, his voice pleading. "Please try to understand."  I snatch my hand away, turning my back to him. I’m still mad at him for dropping me into the pool and walking away without a backward glance. By the time I made it back to my room, soaked and cold, he was long gone. The maids said he needed to “go for a ride” to “clear his head” and blah blah blah.  His small rejection hurt me more than I ever want to admit. “Our wedding is in three and a half hours,” Evander reminds me as he places a hand

Children
[Rosalynd]“That’s for stealing my mate!” Axel growls, his teeth bared, hackles raised, his hands partly transformed into claws. Evander’s personal guard moves forward to intervene. The king puts up his hands to reassure his men and signal that they shouldn’t get involved. “And that is for not telling me about my grandmother!” He shouts as he punches him again. Evander stumbles and Axel pulls him forward by the collar of his dress shirt. “And this,” he pulls his arm back to deliver one more punch, “is for making us wait while you put your nasty smell all over our girl you sonofabitch!”

Family Matters (part 1)
[Axel] “So you and Rosie need to have this miracle Fae baby to save the universe? Is that what you’re trying to tell me?” I am standing next to a window that isn’t emanating sunlight, but something different, more eerily blue in cast, something closer to twilight and not a true morning. My hands are resting on my hips to keep me from strangling him. “Not in those exact words,” Evander confirms as one of his servants pulls his corset vest a bit tighter. It is made of very expensive-looking fabric. Probably silk and gold and Faerie dust. I don’t know, but combined with the way they are lacing him in, he looks both slender and buff simultaneously. I find myself mesmerized as they pull the laces tighter.
