Enough is Enough
[Gideon] "ENOUGH!" I shout. Both men gape, their eyes staring. I hardly ever raise my voice and here I am, standing between these two big men, scolding them in the way Rosie often had to do to keep the peace. "Don't you see what you are doing? What he is making you do to one another? You are falling right into Vincent's trap. This is how he works. He messes with your mind first before he tears you apart in other ways. He wants us all at each other's throats so that we aren't focused on finding him and getting our Rosie back." The other two men paused, looking at one another as if trying to decide whether it was worth it. Does it matter if you are correct in an argument if it is at the expense of everyone you love? After a few more moments, they drop their arms to their sides. Exhaling deeply, I take a step back and watch them as they consider my words. This isn’t the first time they’ve been at each other’s throats, and it ended in Rosie getting hurt or worse. Axel and Evander’s

Awakening
[Rosalynd] The room is cold and the air tastes stale. I am lying in a bed, covered with a sheet, but the surface is hard and unrelenting. It doesn't have the smell of a hospital, but it also doesn't have the smell of home either, which means that wherever I am, I am not safe. Because if I were safe, one of them would be here. My boys would never leave me. Which means that someone else must have me. And I can only think of one person who wants me this badly. Vincent. My father. Grand Warlock of the West Coast. The last thing I remember is falling right after Slone, in her confused fury, pushed me off the roof of Evander's casino hotel. She blames me for everything terrible that has happened to her and I can see why. But I didn't make her final decisions for her, that was all on her. I am sad about the loss of her child. No mother should feel their child slip away from them like that, but I will not apologize for defending my family and keeping them safe. She had no problem threaten

Respect
[Rosalynd] “This is not my home,” I manage to find enough strength to speak above a whisper. My voice echoes off the walls, sounding louder than I intended. “But if you could return me there, I’d be grateful. I’m sure my husbands are looking for me.” He laughs before putting goggles on and shaking his head. There is a body on a gurney in front of me. She has large white and blue wings and very pale skin. She looks a bit like a butterfly, a cabbage white, but in humanoid form. A pixie. They rarely venture out of Tara, but when they do, they tend to stay in remote or abandoned places. “I’m sure they are,” he agrees with me as he holds up a clean bone saw, dangling it above the body, moving it up and down as he talks as if he were holding a book or some other random object and not something designed to cut through layers of flesh and bone. “What happened to her,” I ask as we get close enough for me to see the holes in her wings and her still chest. She is either dead or in her y

Inside the Hangar
[Rosalynd] I was expecting a freak show. I was expecting something terrifying. Nothing had prepared me for this. Children. Dozens of them. The floor beneath the hangar had been hollowed out and covered in some kind of tempered glass, making it transparent. There is a walkway of concrete about 4ft wide that borders the glass all the way around, as well as a few rows splitting it up and down and side to side so that there are clear pathways. Underneath it all there are children. All of them are different and yet oddly the same. They mostly look human, except that some of them have horns or wings or webbed fingers. Some are sleeping, others are playing, and a few are in a classroom. I can’t hear them through the glass, but I can tell that there is laughter and joy. This was not what I was expecting at all. “This is the nursery,” Victor begins to explain before I even have a chance to ask. “There is only one way in, and the only person who knows where that happens to be

Spell Map
[Axel] “I’m sorry, My King, but your reasoning is dangerous, for all of us,” the tall man wheezed as he coughed into a handkerchief. His long, reedy fingers looked like a spider’s legs as he wrapped them around the edges of the long oak table. "You have been in Los Angeles for two weeks and yet none of your witches or leprechauns or wolves have been able to find her exact location. How many more of our people are going to die to bring your Queen home?" Gideon, Evander, and I are all standing at the head of the table as the leaders of the Southern California Fae Council gather to discuss the latest developments in the search for our Rosie. Evander is trying his hardest, but these damn fae won't listen to reason. I am so sick and tired of being the one who is standing up for Rosie. Seb Sanchez, the local alpha, had given us a solid lead. But by the time we got there, all we found was an empty warehouse. The next lead took us in the opposite direction and we ended up wandering lost

Double Vision
[Evander] Axel pulled me to the side after the meeting, making some kind of excuse about wanting to contact his grandmother, which I know is absolute nonsense. He can speak with her whenever he wants through his ring. As the previous guardian, she and her grandson, the newest guardian, are always in contact. This means this is about something else entirely, something that he doesn’t want Gideon to hear. Gideon seems oblivious to the ruse. He barely lifts his head from the map, to say goodbye. He is too entranced by the map, his finger moving up and down over the spot that Axel had marked with the pencil in the center of the more elaborate configuration. Axel and I take a walk outside. The night is starting to fall, but the streetlights keep the city in perpetual twilight. It is never truly dark in LA. As soon as we are far enough away, Axel turns to me and whispers. "Gideon's been compromised. I saw Vincent staring out through his eyes at the end of the meeting." "I wonder

Distraction
[Gideon] I am back in our room when Evander rushes in and kisses me, pushing me against the wall with more passion than I’ve felt from him since Rosie disappeared. I let myself fall into it, savoring the feel of his hands on my arms as he traps them above my head, pinning me in place as he devours my lips. “Evander,” I whimper. “What is it? Why are you...?” “Less talking,” he insists, removing my glasses and setting them on the nightstand next to us. "Just let me have this. Let me love you." He begins to push me down onto the bed and I stop him, placing a hand on his chest. As much as I want this man, as much as he has always driven all of my senses insane, something doesn’t feel right. This doesn’t feel like him. “Evander what are you doing?" I am trembling with passion, my hand shaking as I reach up to touch his beautifully sculpted cheeks. "I want you, I want you so badly, but not like this. Not until you tell me what is going on. Is it Rosie? Did she...” “You could say

Running Into Trouble
[Axel] Evander has been in a sour mood since we left Gideon behind in the hotel. His face is frozen, but his eyes are busy with a thousand horrors. I know that look. I have worn it myself. It comes from suffering that final something that finally shatters something irreplaceable within you. Whatever it was that Evander did for the sake of this mission took its toll on his heart and soul. It was the same way I felt when she married the two of them and I thought she was lost to me forever. I wore it again when I had to accept that she was pregnant, and one more time when she disappeared. Each of those moments took a chunk of my heart. Who knew that finding true love could hurt so deeply? "Nothing worth having is easy," Conner sighs inside my head, trying to help me focus. "We will get her back." "Yes," I agree. "But will we get to keep her?" Rosalynd was supposed to be my mate. My Luna. I knew from the moment my wolf called her his that day in the park. Yet since that day the un

Prenatal Care
[Rosalynd]“My Groom?” I look at him strangely. “What do you mean? I thought you said..”“I mean his vessel,” Vincent clarifies. “He is already madly in love with you and has the right mix of powers to hold the dark lord himself, especially since he has recently discovered his witch powers.”Evander isn’t part witch. Gideon is all witch. The only man that leaves is…“Axel!” I stand up suddenly and almost fall forward. Slone reaches forward to catch me.“Strap her in this time!” Vincent roars. “Take her to the operating suite. It’s time we make her body ready for him.” He then turns to me, his grin stretched from ear to ear. “Don’t worry daughter, I’ll go collect your groom now. Once he’s ready, you’ll be reunited.”Slone pulls the straps down tightly, so tight that my fingertips turn white with blood loss. As I fight against the bindings, the arms of the wheelchair dig into my skin.A hard slap across my temple has me bent in half screaming.“Stop struggling,” Slone advises, her tone

Not Quite Right
[Rosalynd] The creature wearing the face of my mate walks towards me. He is dressed for a wedding. Top hat, tailcoat, white gloves, and a silk cravat and dress shirt all in varying shades of black and gray, like fog at midnight. His chestnut-colored hair has been slicked back and put into a ponytail, a ribbon of black silk tying it back. None of this feels right. It isn’t Axel’s style. Even at our true wedding, I would more likely expect him to wear designer cowboy boots and a pair of dark denim. But that isn’t the part of him that bothers me the most. It was his eyes. Black as slate, cold and dark, they are the opposite of those warm, honey-brown orbs that stole my heart all those months ago. “What are you?” I hiss, struggling against my bonds. "And where is Axel? Where is my mate?" He places a gentle hand on my cheek, making a shushing sound as he tries to soothe me. “He's still here, watching you, protecting you. Even now, he fights to be by your side," his fingers re
