Chapter 51

Vivian stared at Maxwell, surprised by his statement. She wondered what he meant and immediately got suspicious. She couldn't shake the feeling that Maxwell was up to something and that he knew something he wasn't supposed to know. This got her a bit shaken up, but she decided to shrug it off while keeping it in mind that there could be danger looming.Without saying another word to Maxwell, she trotted off to her office. Her secretary welcomed her and told her that she had sent some documents to her via email. Vivian thanked her and entered her office, settling down and bringing out her computer to work. She had decided to come to work that day to clear her records and make sure that everyone was perfect from her side. This was because Scarlett was coming for the meeting that Saturday, and she didn't want her to find any reason to embarrass her in public again. Vivian was busy working when Richard strode into her office, handsomely draped in a royal blue suit. He wore a very unpleas

Chapter 52

After seeing the photos, Vivian became uncomfortable. It was very obvious that someone was following her and tracking her every movement, she had no idea what that person's motive was but she wasn't going to let them achieve it. Quickly, she took her purse and headed out of the room, not minding the fact that she had already paid in full. She called the boy who was supposed to meet her there and told him to forget about coming. She got into her car and drove home immediately.Vivian's hands were shaky as she drove, she was perspiring heavily as she wondered who it was that took those photos of her walking into the hotel. Why would that person do such a thing and what did he need it for? All these questions kept going through her head, causing her to develop a headache. She soon arrived at the mansion and hurriedly made her way inside, aiming to go and get some rest as it had been a very busy day for her. First, she had to prepare for the meeting that would soon be held, then the dete

Chapter 53

Scarlett hung up as soon as Adrian said those words. She couldn't bear to listen to any more of it. She was in shock for a few seconds, she was unable to accept the fact that Adrian would never be hers. Things were moving fine a couple of weeks ago, but now it's all upside down and it left her shattered. She did nothing but blame her mother for what was happening. But at the same time, she wondered if Adrian couldn't tell that her mother was simply a whore. Why would he agree to spend the rest of his life with an old woman who goes about sleeping with young men? It didn't make any sense to her. Could there perhaps be a hidden reason why Adrian is interested in her mother? The hurt she was feeling made her think of several different possibilities. Her resentment towards her mother seemed to suddenly intensify and she thought of nothing more but to take everything away from her mother. She needed to do something that would not only distract her from her pain but also hurt her mother's f

Chapter 54

The week went by really fast and soon, it was Friday. Scarlett had no other choice but to honor her mother's invitation, she had to attend the engagement party even though she really didn't want to. Knowing that she was about to lose Adrian to her mother broke her heart, he should have been her but he chose her mother over her. She was busy packing a few things that she would be needing for a weekend trip when the doorbell rang. She wiped the tears on her face and went to check who was at the door. Ethan was standing in front of her as soon as she opened the door, smiling broadly with a little bag he hung over his shoulder. She wasn't surprised to see him because he had told her that he would be joining her back to her mansion that day. Without saying a word, Scarlett moved out of the way for him to enter. He made himself comfortable on the couch while she went back upstairs to finish up her packing. She still hadn't recovered from the shock of losing Adrian and it was making her

Chapter 55

“Adrian..” Vivian's excited voice sounded, causing Scarlett to quickly pull away from Adrian, letting go of his hand.“Oh, there you are.” She walked right into the kitchen, immediately picking up the awkward situation of the place. She stared at Adrian and then at Scarlett, wondering what they were doing in there alone.“Is everything alright? You both look spooked.” She pointed out. Adrian opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out as his brain was not organized at that moment. He was busy looking forward to the kiss he was going to get from Scarlett to think straight.“Scarlett, are you okay?” She noticed the pale expression on her face. Scarlett scratched her head and went straight to the fridge. She grabbed a juice box and left the kitchen without saying a word to either of them. She ran back to her room, shut the door, and remained there. “What happened?” Vivian turned to Adrian, giving him a suspicious look. She wondered if he had said anything mean to her because, as sh

Chapter 56

Scarlett gathered enough strength to push Adrian away, forcing him to let go of her, and then she glared at him.“What are you doing? Did you forget that you're my stepfather?” She asked, fighting back her tears. Adrian did not even know what had come over him. He scratched his head, regretting what he had just done. He had acted on impulse. Seeing Scarlett made him lose his senses, especially because he hasn't been able to get her off his mind all day.“I'm sorry, I–” “I don't want to hear anything. You should get back to the party, your fiancee is probably waiting for you.” She said spitefully, placing a lot of emphasis on the ‘fiancee’ part. Adrian sighed, letting his head hang. He opened his mouth to speak again after seconds of silence, but Scarlett quickly walked away, not wanting to talk to him anymore. She headed straight to her room, deciding to forget about the party entirely. She locked herself up in her room and collapsed into the bed, sobbing.Minutes later, her phone

Chapter 57

Determined to interrupt what was happening, Adrian cleared his throat loudly and then stepped into the room. Ethan and the maid he was with quickly moved away from each other. The maid pulled her dress down immediately, staring down at her feet to avoid eye contact with Adrian. She was scared that he would tell Vivian, and she would lose her job.Ethan, on the other hand, did not show any sign of remorse, which Adrian expected as he knew him to be shameless already. In fear, the maid scrambled out of the room, leaving Ethan and Adrian alone. Ethan pulled his pants up and fumed at Adrian for interrupting his fun.“Why did you even come in here? Couldn't you have just walked away?” He questioned. Adrian shook his head.“Do you know that Scarlett could have been the one to find you? Is this what you would have said to her?” “Oh please.” Ethan rolled his eyes heavily, wiping his forehead with the back of his palm as he had been sweating profusely.“You’re always talking about how much yo

Chapter 58

Scarlett's eyes widened when the text message turned out to be a photo of her mother walking into a hotel with some random man in a hoodie. She couldn't hide her rising anger, her face squeezed into a frown and her grip tightened on the phone. She felt disgusted staring at it, although she was aware of her mother's infidelity.“Is this recent?” Scarlett wondered as she felt odd about the need for her mother to cheat barely twenty four hours after her engagement. It didn't make any sense. She believed that it was an old photo but still, it's a danger to the firm if seen by anyone else.Annoyed, she picked up her phone and called her mother who answered almost immediately.“Hi Scarlett! I was about to call you even, are you home safe?” Vivian's voice rang. “Really mom?” Scarlett's voice was cold. Vivian was a bit confused.“What? Is there a problem?” She inquired.“What's this photo of yours? Going into a hotel with a man!” Vivian gasped audibly, incredibly shocked that Scarlett had s

chapter 59

A MONTH LATERDepression was slowly setting in as Scarlett kept having to face the reality of her mother and Adrian getting married soon. Their wedding has been fixed to take place in summer, which is barely a month from now. The preparations are ongoing, and she can't take the heat any longer.Crying has become the order of the day for her. She couldn't go a night without bawling her eyes out and wishing that either her mother or Adrian would forfeit the wedding. The news of the wedding was all over the internet, and Scarlett's coursemates kept congratulating her on her mother's wedding, which made her even more depressed. She was no longer the girl that everyone knew. She maintained her academic excellence, although it took everything in her to do so. Apart from that, her social life was in shambles as she kept cutting herself off extracurricular activities and even going out to bars and clubs. She was always on her own, especially because Nelly was still upset with her.As if that

Chapter 60

Vivian left for her trip that same day, Scarlett was left in the care of the maids who helped her get to her room, bathed her, and put her to bed to rest. Richard arrived some hours later and went straight to her room to see her. Vivian had told him that Scarlett was in a really bad state of health, and he left everything behind to go and see his niece. Scarlett was happy when he arrived. He sat by her bed and held her hand lovingly, having a look of concern on his face. “How are you dear? Are you feeling any better?” He questioned, but she slowly shook her head, already sweating due to the extreme discomfort she was feeling.“I don't feel better at all, uncle. If anything, I feel worse. I'm so sick and dizzy, I hate feeling this way.” She let out a groan, acting like a baby at the sight of her uncle who caressed her hair.“You're going to be just fine, my child. Have you had your medicine?” He asked.“No, I have to eat first. The maids are still making my food.”“Alright, don't wo
