Eric stayed silent for a while, he didn't know how he was going to begin and how he was going to not make it all sound insane."My parents want me to get married," Eric started. Emma's heart raced, she didn't know what he was driving at or trying to say."They want me to get married to my best friend, betty," He said and the words left Emma confused. Who was betty? What marriage? Why now? "Marriage? How? When? What did you say?" Emma had so many questions and didn't even know which to ask first."Our parents are friends and they thought it would be good for business and all," Eric explained."So, you're getting married?" Emma asked, tears where beginning to form underneath her eyes."I don't want to, but my dad gave a condition. He said if I did, then I will get the C.E.O position that I have been wanting all year.""What C.E.O position? What are you talking about?" Emma was confused. Eric had only told her they owned a small consulting firm. If that was it, then why want it so badl

Emma woke up to the continuous beeping of her phone. She sat up in bed, rubbing the sleep off her face. She picked up her phone, which was by the table next to her bed. It was almost 8am and she saw a couple of messages from Eric.ERIC(yesterday, 11pm); please pick up my calls, I have been trying to reach you.ERIC(12:10): I am so sorry about yesterday. I didn't mean all I said, please talk to me.ERIC:(2:05): Emma, please call me back when you see my texts.ERIC(7:05): please, can we meet up by the park today, I have something's to tell you and it's important that you know.ERIC(7:50): I will be waiting by 4pm, please come.Emma didn't reply any of the messages. She reluctantly got up from her bed, she had decided to call in sick today. She didn't feel like going out and no one was going to make her.She wasn't sure if she was going to meet up with Eric. She was curious about all that he had to say but she wasn't sure if she wanted to hear it. What if it was best that she didn't? wh

"I didn't know he was getting married," Henry said but Emma paid no attention to him.Her attention was on the headline which was accompanied by a big picture of Eric and Betty with each other."but Eric didn't mention him being a billionaire's son to me. Maybe that isn't him" Emma said, in denial."That's Eric wintson," Henry said. He had done his research before coming to Emma and by the look of things, he knew that Emma was oblivious about everything."He is son to Mark Wintson, the biggest shoe designer in town. They own most of the design stores in town and he is business partner and best friend to Justin Daisy, the owner of daisy's and father of Betty Daisy."Everything Eric was saying, was new to Emma. he was a billionaire? They owned the biggest design stores? Emma felt stupid, she didn't think once to really ask Eric about his family and he only kept on telling her they owned a small business.Emma then started to remember the time he got her the shoe, how he was able to get

"I don't know what to say to make you believe me, Emma but I knew nothing about this and I need you to trust me," Eric said, moving closer to Emma."you want me to believe that all this happened and you knew nothing about it?""yes, Emma. please believe me."Eric knew that Emma was buying it and if she was in her shoes too, he would find it hard to believe him too. But that was the only thing he could do, try to make her believe him."you have lied to me about everything, Eric. What's all that about you being a billionaire's son. Was that the reason you never told me about your family? Do you even trust me? Is your name even Eric?""hey, Emma," Eric said, touching her shoulder.Emma removed his hands from her shoulder and folded her arms together in a position that gave the look "start talking.""it was never my intention to hide anything from you but it was the first time that I found someone who didn't like me because of how much money my family had or how much I made. You liked me

His mum stepped out for a bit with him. She wondered what it was that he wanted to talk to her about even though she had an idea of what it could be."what's it you want to talk about?" She asked."Mum, I want all this to end. I don't want this wedding, all of this.""Eric, we have started planning. Betty's Mum is here and we have set the dates. The media is in the know about all this and we can't just call it off.""You didn't think to ask me about all of this. You could have asked for my opinion and what I want.""what do you want?""I know that I don't want this." Eric said. "There is someone else mum. Her name is Emma, I really like her and she is the one I want to be with.""we don't know this girl, who is she? What family is she from?""She is an amazing person and if you get to know her, I am sure that you'll like her.""Eric.""Mum, I want this. You're the only one who can help stop this.""Alright, son.""Thanks Mum," Eric smiled, hugging her.Eric went up to his room, he wa

"I made your favourite," Maria said, placing the dish on the table. Emma didn't look so interested, her thoughts were occupied. Maria and Helen had been doing everything they could to cheer Emma but it didn't seem to be working."You know you can just call him if you miss him this much? Or send a text," Helen said, dishing her food."I am fine," Emma said, dishing a small portion in her plate."you don't look fine dear."Emma looked like all the joy and any form of happiness had been sucked out of her. Maria hated seeing her that way. Emma was the one who made jokes when everyone was sad, the one who cheered everyone up and made sure everyone was okay."I will be fine," Emma said. "Let's talk about Helen," Emma said, turning to Helen."What about me? You can't keep changing conversations everytime, you know."Emma forced out a smile."That's true. What about the designs you wanted to show your boss?" her mum asked."She hasn't checked it out yet. She said she doesn't have the time ye

"Think about your family and how you wouldn't want to be living in the streets," Grace said, before walking out.Alfred followed behind and Emma locked the door. She had so many thoughts in her head, she couldn't think straight but she knew that she would protect her sister and mother, no matter what it took."Is she gone?" Maria asked as she and Helen Came out of the room."yes, She is.""What was it that she came for? That woman wasn't looking nice at all.""Trust me, she isn't.""it's nothing," Emma said."so, you won't tell us what you two talked about?" Helen asked."it's nothing that should worry either of you," Emma assured."I am just going to go inside now. I am going to have an early night," Emma said, walking into the room.Helen and Maria knew that something was wrong but they knew what kind of person Emma was and how she always fixes everything herself. Maria wished she would share what it was and then, they could fix it together.Emma locked the door to her room and lay

Emma walked as fast as she could away from Eric. The tears had started dropping, she couldn't hold it in anymore and it hurt her. Her chest felt like it was being punctured by a sharp needle and she couldn't breath. She was trying but as she cried, it got worse. She didn't know you could feel your heart broken physically and emotionally. She wondered how Eric was feeling, how she had made him feel. She was the cause of all this and there was no way to mend it.Everything she said to Eric, she didn't mean but she meant what she said about Fairytales and Happily ever after, they weren't real to her anymore. They were as fictional and as unreal as Cinderella and her slippers. She got into the cab that she had ordered. She sobbed all the way till she got home. The cab driver had tried severally to console her and ask what was happening but she couldn't even answer and had just kept crying.Emma got home few minutes after, she hurried into her room, locking the door from behind. She burie

"you haven't gone to work all week, Emma," Maria said, dishing their food."I will go when I am ready mum.""Are you sure you will still have a job there when you get back?" Helen said, picking the sauce."Really, I don't care.""Emma, you can't just give up on life when something doesn't happen the way you want it. You don't shut the world out and act like nothing exist. People go through stuffs everytime in life, but they don't sit at home all day and act like their life is over," Emma said."some people have everything they want. Things always go their way, why can't that be me, why can't it be us!!""Emma," Helen said, trying to calm her down.Emma stood from where she was sitting. "NO, Helen!! I am tried of everything and I am angry, very angry and maybe you where right when you said the rich will always get away with anything they want and it's pointless fighting.""I have lost my appetite," Emma said, walking away into the room."should I go talk to her?" Helen asked."No, don'

Henry sat on the couch while Emma went to get two wine glasses."Here," Emma said, handing over a glass to him."Thank you," he said.Emma sat on the sofa opposite to him, while she filled her glass with wine, dropping the bottle on the table."How are you doing now?" Henry asked.Emma wasn't exactly sure what he knew or why he was asking her that question. Did everyone in the neighbourhood know what happened to her? What did they know? She thought."I am Good," Emma responded after a while.'"I haven't seen you around much lately and I am also sorry about showing you the paper and all the other day, didn't know you knew nothing about it.""It's not your fault and I would have probably found out someway or another."They both stayed silent as they sipped their drinks. Henry knew he had a chance now but he didn't want to do too much and scare her away again. Emma didn't know what else to say and she wasn't in the mood to bring up conversations too."Have you ever loved someone so much
