DianaThe words hangs in the air, and I immediately feel mortified as every eye in the room turns to me. I internally wince at the stupid suggestion. How could that possibly work? But Dominicus turns to me with a thoughtful look, his eyes sharp with interest. "Keep going.""I..." I hesitate, unsure. "Maybe we can use something that affects only witches and spread through the air? Even if it doesn't kill them, at least make them uncomfortable enough that they're forced to leave the area and come out where we'll be waiting for them?"It is silent for a moment. Then-"I like it," one of the warriors says."That's actually a good idea, Luna," another agrees.Brodik leans forward, his expression thoughtful. "But is there even something like that? Something that affects only witches?"The room falls quiet again as everyone considers the question. Even if such a thing existed, we as wolves are unlikely to know about it."We need to ask the light witches, someone with experience," Dominicus s

DianaThe ritual is in two days. According to Eleanor, the night of the seventh solstice is when the ritual will take place, and that is the night two days from now.Eight hours on the road. That's what it takes to reach the forest where the Vala Mire lies—the chasm in which the coven lives at its bottom. Eight hours of winding roads, and tense silence..During the drive, we pass by the small territory of the Plena Luna pack, and it occurs to me that the murder of Alpha Darius’s son—and then the subsequent false accusation of Billy and me—is what kick-started this whole nightmare. I can't help but feel sad for the young boy who was cruelly killed by the dark witches for their nefarious plans. Hopefully, when we win this war, there will be no more innocent sacrifices. The car passes the territory, and less than half an hour later, going by the main road, we pass by the Zervos pack. I absentmindedly notice that the sentries guarding their borders seem a bit off—more alert than usual, th

DianaArran's voice comes through first: Yes, Alpha. Two other voices echo the acknowledgment. One of the warriors move forward and whisper the intructions into her ear. Instantly, she brightens up with a surge of desperate hope.Dom's voice fills my mind next through our mate bond, calm but firm: Go to Emerald.I hesitate, every instinct screams at me to stay and fight beside my mate, but I force myself to nod.I retreat deeper into the trees. We'd discussed this strategy extensively, and as much as I hate it, I understand the logic. I and Emerald are not to participate in the initial fight, and the reasons are sound, even if I don’t like it.I had wanted to argue when Dom first laid out the plan, but by the time he finished explaining, I couldn't deny he was right. The reasoning was brutally simple: I'm the Priestess, and I'm the only one who can seal Caedrim back up should he be released. That makes me the dark witches' primary target once fighting breaks out.I'd protested that I

DianaAs my eyes land on Emerald, I remember Dom’s words again. However, there's an additional reason I believe its best we stay away from the fighting for now. I desperately hope that Emerald can be protected from as much of war's brutality as possible. If we need her for the Dark Mage, then I'd prefer she only engage in battle with him directly, and only if it comes to that.I take a deep breath and say to Emerald and Billy. "Follow me."To their credit, neither asks questions. They simply fall in behind me as we begin moving carefully through the trees, searching for a clear path to the cliff. I'm acutely aware that I have a target painted on my back—the dark witches' priority will be eliminating the Priestess before she can interfere with their plans. The sounds of fighting echo around us as we creep through the forest. Finally, we find what we're looking for: a spot where the tree line juts out just enough to partially block the view from both the cliff edge and the main battlefi

DianaI'm grateful for the faintly glowing fog that surrounds us now. At the top of the cliff, there had been moonlight to aid our sight, but down here in the abyss, darkness usually reigns even during the day due to the thick canopy above. The ethereal luminescence filtering through the mist provides just enough visibility to navigate safely. While Billy and I could manage with our enhanced werewolf senses, Emerald lacks those advantages—every bit of light helps keep us all together. We push deeper into the woods, carefully picking our way through the undergrowth. Twisted roots and fallen branches create natural obstacles, and more than once we have to navigate around patches of treacherous swampland that would slow our progress. Finally, we discover a small clearing where the ground is relatively even—no protruding stones, no clinging mud, no marshy bog. Just normal, dry earth beneath our feet.I survey the area with a critical eye before nodding in satisfaction. "This will do."I s
