-That's right," I said, smiling. -What else do you want me to say? Surely my words are going to be repeated just as the other applicants repeated them, to the point that you already know them by heart. Therefore, I see no point in saying that I chose nursing because it is a noble profession, because I like to help others, or even because it will secure my finances. When I say "it fascinates me", I think it covers all these areas, except for the last one, since that is too banal and it is known that this profession is not so well remunerated for what you work for. However, many times the smile of a patient or a family member is the best payment there can be.-Then we won't pay you if we hire you," the doctor told me, and I smiled.-I don't care if I don't get paid," I told her, and her eyes almost popped out of their sockets. -I just want to practice nursing, and I don't care about the money.I shut the doctor up and once the interview was over, I left. If they don't hire me, it doesn'

-Stop wagging your tails like dogs at this doctor and get to work. You have a lot of things to do. I remind you that we are in an intensive care ward, not in a gossipy old lady's neighborhood. The resources went to work, and I looked at Dr. Castelo for the last time with eyes that warned him not to mess with me, because he was going to regret it. I continued to make my notes on the files that corresponded to me. When it was time to leave, I grabbed my things and left, but the boss stopped me.-You surprised me earlier, Lucia," he said smiling, "I never thought you had so much authority in you and so much character to make Castelo tremble. You always showed yourself to be an extremely sweet nurse.-I had not needed to bring up that side, but today I had no choice. Dr. Castelo, along with the resources there who look like puppets of this so-called ICU manager, exasperated me.-Well, at least I won't have to worry about you," he said. You have character, and Dr. Fernandez has your back.

I separated from him and went to the ICU room. While there, I changed clothes in a cubicle we had for changing. I received the patients and once I was assigned the files, I started to work. The dirty looks were unnecessary, but I didn't care. The boss arrived a few minutes after me and was working focused on her patients. I got up to stretch and watched as Dr. Castelo looked me over from head to toe. I sat down and continued writing.-Lucia, please go monitor your patient's cardiac output," the chief told me, "write it down in the chart and keep an eye on it.I nodded and went to check his cardiac output, noted it in the chart and went on with my work. When it was time for lunch, I left the ICU and went to the hospital dining room. I brought my lunch, as the food here is too expensive. While I was eating, trying to survive the rest of the day, Dr. Fernandez approached me. I invited him to take a seat and he did.-Take this," he said, extending a cup of coffee to me, for which I was gr

I reluctantly went upstairs and while she was driving, I asked her about her wedding. She was telling me that everything was almost ready and showed me two napkins asking me what color it was. This one is mother-of-pearl white and this one is pearl white.-That's my girl," he said, extremely happy as he pulled into the hospital parking lot. Well, there you are. I'm so glad I found you.-Me too. You know where I work, whenever you want to come and see me. I just hope I can receive you.-I can come to your house if you wish.-Of course! You just tell me where to meet you so I can take you there.-Okay. You know what?... Adriel misses you. When I heard his name, I felt a certain tickle in my stomach but at the same time a great discomfort.-Mr. Lund knew that he would be at home for one week only, and that period was over.-That's true, but that doesn't stop you from missing him. Even Saul misses you and me too.-Saul should be happy. Almost every time I'm around him I end up hitting him

-You know very well that working in intensive care is not easy. I feel fine, so don't worry.-I can't let you drive in that condition. I'll come and drop you off, so get in my car.-Don't worry, I told you I'm fine. Besides, I can't leave my jeep here, as it will be difficult for me to get to work tomorrow.-Then I'll drop you off at your house in your jeep and then I'll come back here by bus.As much as I insisted it wasn't necessary, he simply wouldn't listen and I had to give him the keys to my jeep once he parked his car properly. As he drove, I talked to him about anything and everything to keep him awake.-He really is as stubborn as a mule. He's supposed to be sleeping and not driving my jeep to take me home.-I would have been worried if you had driven home in that condition. I'll go sleep in my apartment after I drop you off....Adriel's perspectiveHere I was in front of Santillana Hospital. I couldn't concentrate and as I was running to get out of the hotel, Aimee told me w
