ENZO DE-LUCA.Letting out a sigh, I stared at the reflection of myself in the mirror for a while before reaching into my pocket to pull out a pack of cigarettes.“Son of a bitch.” I cursed under my breath as I walked back out of the restroom. Coming to the restroom was an excuse because I didn’t want to scare Maeve but someone had been following us from the moment I made the first turn.I don’t know if he thinks he was being discreet but I could smell him like he was a rat that’s been dead for years.Who could it be? What does he want?My brows furrowed as the worst case scenarios crossed my mind and soon, my confusion turned into anger because the last thing I would do when I’m trying to have a happy breakfast with Maeve is sit back and watch someone ruin that moment for me.Whoever he is, I don’t care, all I know is that he’s going to die if he tries anything funny.Slowly, I made my way out of the restroom and my eyes landed on Maeve. She was laughing and on the phone and since I k

MAEVE HAWTHORN.Don’t leave me.His voice shook, it was like a tremor in the quiet and I felt it hit every single fiber of my being harder than a punch ever could. It was raw and I couldn’t just hear the honesty in his voice, I could feel it too. What the hell happened in the restroom for him to come back as a broken, vulnerable man?“What are you talking about?” I chuckled in an attempt to lighten the mood but I could still feel the tension lingering, “I’m never going to—”“But I’ll do something, I might have even done it and you’re going to be convinced that leaving me will be the right decision but please, Maeve Hawthorn, promise me you won’t.” He added.I swallowed, cold chills running down my spine as I searched his eyes for reasons and answers but as usual, there wasn’t a single thing in his eyes that I could put my fingers on.This man, this feared mafia boss, the one people whispered about in the shadows and ran from in broad daylight, the man whose name no one could dare to m

MAEVE HAWTHORN.The ride back to the house was quiet, the fresh air and the sun hitting my face just made me feel even better and although I knew it was dangerous, I couldn’t stop sticking my hair out every once in a while. The silence was tense at all and all through the drive, his hand never left mine. Occasionally, it rested on my thigh and lingered for a few moments and sometimes our fingers laced together so tightly it was hard to let go.It felt good. Peaceful and completely weightless. His face was glued to the road, his lips parted sometimes but he didn’t say anything and most of the time he didn’t stop glancing at me like I might disappear if he blinked. He felt like a different man, he looked the part too and I wasn’t even entirely sure how he started being this gentle. This open. But it made my chest ache in the best way.The best morning ever, finding out that the baby is in perfect condition, the breakfast, the confession and now this very beautiful drive that I do not wa

MAEVE HAWTHORN.“Well, well, well, look what we have here,” a familiar voice teased from behind me and I recoiled from within, my stomach immediately clenched tight and I felt like barfing.“You’re going to grow really fat if you keep stuffing your face like you’re doing now.” She laughed, walking past me and to the fridge to take a bottle of water. It’s been more than a week now and Yvette was still staying in the house, her presence bothered me, it always had but I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t want to be the one that drove a wedge between two friends.Plus, Enzo spent most of the nights in my room and so, I’m sure there’s nothing going on between them but still, I didn’t want her around, I didn’t even want to see her.She reeked of negative energy and she always made it a point to show just how much she hated me, I’m not dumb, I knew it right from the onset.“Can. I. Stab. Her?” I read Clara’s lips and almost peed myself laughing as I shook my head.“Good Morning, Yv

MAEVE HAWTHORN.Her eyes were wide, she was shocked and so was everyone else in the kitchen. My teeth clattered and my hands shook as I stormed out of the kitchen. So much for trust. They had sex? I mean, I knew something like that was inevitable but while I was in the house? While we were together? She could be lying, that’s right, she probably said all those things to rule me up and Enzo and I only recently solidified our relationship, it shouldn’t hurt this much.Yeah, it doesn’t hurt but….. I can’t stop the tears from falling. I’ve tried wiping my eyes but the tears just wouldn’t stop falling and….My stomach and chest hurt. They hurt so much that I feel like I’m going to faint. My heart is pounding like crazy and my ears are ringing.“MAEVE!” Clara’s yell forced me out of my thought and it wasn’t until I looked down that I realized that I was actually packing my bags. What’s wrong? Why does it hurt so much?“I’ve been calling you since I walked in but you didn’t hear me, I had to

ENZO DE-LUCA.“That’s all that happened while you were gone,” the lady I’d kept in charge of Maeve explained, I knew how close they were and that was why I’d asked her specifically to always keep Maeve company whenever Scarlett wasn’t coming around. Her palms clamped together as she brought them to her chest and she looked up at me, worry and anxiety obvious in the way she looked. Her lower lips trembled and I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me that her look meant she had something more to tell more, that she had more details.“Where is Yvette now?” I asked and the maid sighed as she told me that Yvette had gone back to the room. A part of me felt really angry, she had overstepped and I knew that I caused it by bringing her to the house and putting her in my room. But that ends today, I really need to apologize to Maeve, hopefully she’s going to forgive me and not make this a bigger deal than it already is.Walking past the maid, I stopped right before I could make it to the stairs a

ENZO DE-LUCA.“What do I do, Levi? What the fuck do I do?!” I was impatient as I paced around Levi's living room, it’s been three days, Yvette is out of the house too but Maeve still hasn’t come back. She hadn’t even called once and my eyes have been on the new phone Levi got the whole time so that I don’t miss a call but it felt like I didn’t need to worry at all since she didn’t call! What the hell did I do? How on earth did I manage to screw things up after all of my big talk.Sinking into the couch, my eyes felt heavy since it’s been days since I slept. I ran my fingers through my hair, groaning agonizingly as I scratched my head before rubbing my temple.I’ve been trying really hard to keep calm, doing everything in my power to hold out hope that Maeve was coming back home, that she was going to call and ask me to come pick her hope but none of that has happened.“I’ve been trying and I can’t get through to any single person that might know where her and her best friend could be.

MAEVE HAWTHORN.The room fell completely silent as I took in Enzo’s look. He was a total mess and he had dark circles that probably wouldn’t be there if he slept.I missed him. Every night before I fall asleep, he’s the last person I think about and the first one to invade my thoughts when I wake up in the morning.Seeing him here and now feels me with a level of excitement I didn’t think I could ever attain, his voice, the way he looked at me like I was the reason he’s living, I miss every damn thing and usually, I would be in his arms by now but not again.I need to put my feet down, to let him know that I will not stand around while some girl he fucks just for the fun of it disrespects me.“Please, the silence is killing me.” His voice came again, putting a stop to the silence as everything I faced back at the mansion started coming back to me.The total disrespect, the way Yvette had told me that I wasn’t special and only a property that Enzo owned, everything rang in my head and

ENZO DE-LUCA.Her anger was evident as rage radiated from her and my fist clenched. That was anger directed at myself, I didn’t mean to make her this angry and I made it even worse by opening my mouth. She was visibly seething, her nostrils flared and I could see her fists trembling at her sides. I know Maeve well enough to know that confrontation is on the top of the list of things she hates doing.“Little flame….”“Don’t call me that!” She snapped, her teeth gritting so hard that it echoed and I was actually glad that Scarlett had given us the time that we actually needed.“And don’t make me repeat myself, get out of here.” She added, her face flushed crimson with rage and she looked scary, so scary that my heart actually skipped a beat.Never in a thousand years did I think that I was going to see Maeve so full of rage but I was seeing it right now, her lips curled in silent fury and her glare could have sliced through steel. She looked like a volcano just seconds away from eruptin

MAEVE HAWTHORN.“…. So, please, Maeve. I am begging you. I really cannot live my life without you.” He finished and I swallowed even though it was difficult due to the fact that I could literally feel my uvula get bigger. He knew just what to say, he knew all the right words and ways to make me feel like I made the wrong decision leaving.Sighing, I buried my face into my pillow and let out a loud muffled scream before lying back down, facing and counting the ceilings. What do I do now? Those things he said, I could feel the truth in them, I could hear and also feel the genuineness of those words and right now, I feel like I’m at a cross words. Each word tugged at my heartstrings and it was difficult to ignore that but there was no way I could just abandon everything only to run into his arms, I don’t want that at all.I’ve been disrespected, insulted and humiliated in an abode I thought was filled with love and what I want right now is to stand firm on my decision and not waver.Enzo
