JASON's POV"She's going to be okay, Elijah. " I said as a way to comfort Elijah as we walked out of the hospital."I suppose she is. But I wish I was there with her. I feel like I've left her to deal with something scary all on her own." Elijah said, his eyes looking straight ahead."you don't have much of a choice." I told him, "In any case, she's not alone. Rhea is with her, and Rhea seems to really care for her. She has the bracelet to keep her soul entwined with yours.""yeah, I guess." he replied, but the words sounded heavy, as if the whole thing weighed him down.“Plus,” I added as we reached the car, “she’s a really strong witch.”He chuckled softly, “yeah. Yeah, she is, isn’t she?”And that seemed to lighten his mood.We got into the car, and I drove us to the hideout. I didn't know the place, but Elijah was good with directions."Here." he said when we got to a black gate, "the building is in there. Or at least, what's left of it.""I wonder what made the place fall apart l

KYLIE's POVReality came back to me in a series. When I woke, the world didn't come at me all once, it came slowly, in fractures, in flickering fragments.I caught a scent here, then a voice here, and then the warmth of a familiar hand holding on to mine.Light poured into the room, and blinded me when I tried to open my eyes, and every part of me ached, as though I had been whipped, or had engaged in some kind of exaggerated activity. I was sure I had done neither of those things.I tried to open my eyes again, this time much more slowly, as I listened to the rhythm of the monitor. One attempt, beep. Another attempt, another beep.I recognized the room as one of the ones I had been in while taking rounds in the infirmary. It was familiar, but my mind was not. It didn't feel like mine.Everything sounded too loud. The quiet beeping of the monitor, the sound of the birds chirping outside, even the rustling of the leaves.I tried to block it all out by slipping into oblivion, so I close

KYLIE's POV"Here." Maren said, handing me a talisman as she and Thorne prepared to leave. "this will keep you deeply centered within yourself, so that Damien's core doesn't find a space to take root.""Thank you. " I said, accepting the talisman, and wrapped my arms around it, "I wish there was a way to get rid of him for good though. To completely take him out of me.""We will continue to think of something." Thorne said, rising from his chair, "believe me when I say we spent all night racking our brains trying to find a solution ever since Jason informed us of what happened."I sighed and slowly nodded, "well, in the meantime, I have to be more conscious of what I'm letting go through me I suppose."Maren smiled and reached for me, "do you know? I'm completely in awe of how strong you are." she said."which I find really beautiful, because half the time I barely know what it is I'm actually doing." I said honestly, and Maren simply patted my hand."it means even your intuition is s

Jason's povI took a step back from the car, and had this strange urge to run, but I stayed put."I don't ever run." I said with a grunt, and looked deeply at the reflection that was me, but at the same time couldn't possibly have been me.My reflection was still smiling ,but after blinking a couple of times, it changed back to normal, and that was when I noticed that my breathing was not even."damned bloody veils." I cursed and looked back in the direction of the forest. The wind was still howling violently, and leaves still rustled on the ground.Maren and Thorne were still at it, I could feel the shift in the air and I wondered if the spells were what stirred the broken veil, that made the ripple effects that caused me to see my own reflection to smile when there wasn't so much as a smile on my own face.Because what if it wasn’t just residual magic out there? What if something older was actually being awakened?I reached into my pocket and fumbled for the keys, before opening up

ELIJAH's povEver since Kylie left to go check out the minefield, I couldn't function well. I managed to have breakfast, but that was it. I couldn't think, I couldn't work, and even when Jason came with news about a pack meeting I was much too distracted."Your father is going to be there?" he said and I suddenly turned to face him."my father?" I asked, and I supposed that dragged me out of my funk."Yeah. It seems word on the recent happenings has finally gotten to him and stirred him up. He wants a word with you and all of the council of elders.""the council of elders." I said and scoffed, "those blokes have barely said a word since all of this started, now father is in town and they suddenly want to have a meeting?" I asked."I guess it's their own way of proving they haven't been idle."" They’ve been worse than idle. They’ve been completely MIA.” I said and looked out the window. “Cowards, more like. Sitting in silence while the ground beneath our feet has been shifting and cra
