(Ruby)The sound of giggles echoed in the living room as I watched Mabel and Miles play on the floor. Their little hands were busy with the blocks I’d given them just minutes ago. They were so full of energy, full of life, that you’d never guess everything they’d been through. I smiled softly, but beneath it, there was a heavy weight in my chest.Lydia had left them behind while she went to L.A., and it wasn’t rare of her to leave them with me, but it was definitely the first time where she was out of the country and I had to look after them. She rarely left them with anyone until Thomas had come along and she trusted him because he was their father.Lydia had always been fiercely protective of her kids but it increased after the kidnapping. The thought of what could have happened to them and what did happen to them... I shook my head, not wanting to dwell on it.I could only imagine how hard it had been for her to walk out the door when leaving for the airport, but I had reassured he

(Jack)I rushed into my apartment, the door slamming shut behind me. My mind was racing, and I could feel the familiar knot of tension building in my chest. I’d forgotten my speech for tonight’s golden jubilee event. Of all the things I could’ve forgotten, it had to be that.I rubbed my forehead, frustrated with myself. It wasn’t just any speech; this was the one I’d reworked after Thomas told me he wouldn’t be there tonight. And now I had less than an hour before I had to be at the venue, meeting Ruby, making sure everything was perfect.“You sure you left it here?” came a voice from behind me. It was my assistant, who had picked me up from the mansion and driven me here in a mad rush. He’d been patient through my frantic search but was probably wondering why I didn’t just print another copy.It would have been embarrassing to tell him that I had written it down on a notepad, too tired to get out of bed and take my computer after a long day at work. After the news of Thomas’ departur

(Thomas)The room was dimly lit, just enough to see the outline of Lydia resting beneath the covers. Her breathing had steadied, a little shallower than usual but calm, as if her body was finally giving in to the rest it so desperately needed.I sat by her side, watching her closely, waiting for any sign of discomfort or unease. Every now and then, she stirred, and I’d gently press the cool cloth to her forehead or offer her another sip of water. The doctor’s words from earlier replayed in my mind like a mantra. He had told me to hydrate her, keep her comfortable, monitor her breathing, and call if anything changes. I’d followed the instructions to the letter, making sure Lydia had everything she needed throughout the night. I wasn’t going to let anything slip, not when her health was at stake. She was my world, and I couldn’t afford to let anything happen to her. Not again.I reached over to the nightstand and grabbed the water glass, gently placing it against her lips. "Just a litt

(Thomas)I could feel it, the way Lydia was processing everything. The silence that stretched between us worried me though. She was deep in thought, her brow furrowed slightly, her lips pressed together in the way they always were when something weighed heavily on her. But she wasn’t saying anything.I hated that. I hated that I didn’t know what was running through her mind. I didn’t want what happened to scar her, to leave a mark.I’d seen her shaken before after Nathan had broken into her house. The memory of that night still sat heavy in my chest. I stayed with her afterwards, unable to leave her side. I could still hear her muffled cries, the way she had jolted awake from a nightmare that had ripped through her like a storm. It had pained me then, and it pained me now. I couldn’t stand the thought of her carrying that kind of fear again.“Lydia,” I said softly, shifting closer to her on the bed. Her hand was still in mine, warm but slightly tense. “Talk to me,” I said softly, “Wha

(Lydia)As soon as Thomas stepped out of the bathroom, steam trailing behind him, I turned to him, unable to hold back any longer.“I have a plan,” I said, my voice steady even though my heart was racing.Thomas raised an eyebrow, his eyes narrowing in curiosity as he dried his hair with the towel. He knew me well enough to understand that when I said I had a plan, I meant it. I wasn’t someone who jumped into things half-prepared.“You sure about this?” he asked, but there was no doubt in his tone. It was more like he was already on board but wanted to hear the details before committing completely.I nodded, “I’m not backing down, Thomas. I’ve had enough of Nathan, and it’s time to show him he can’t do this to me, or anyone else.”He didn’t say anything, just sat on the edge of the bed, waiting. That was the thing about Thomas. He was always calm when I needed him to be. Never pushing, just waiting for the right moment to dive in.I grabbed my phone from the nightstand and dialed Josh
