It streamed through the tall windows, spilling warmth over the pale sheets tangled around me. For a long moment, I just lay there, staring at the ceiling, pretending that today would be normal. Pretending that I wasn’t living in a house filled with, secrets, and people who looked at me like I they wanted me to be completely wiped off of the face of the earth. I turned to the side and exhaled. The bed was large and empty—just the way I wanted it. I’d moved moved out of Hector's room and into this one last night, despite Hector’s protests. He had argued, reasoned, and even ordered me to stay in his room because it was “safer,” --which was probably true but I didn’t care. I needed the distance.
