“Did you tell him you were here?” Pamela asked, clearing the table of any sensitive documents laying in sight. “No.” Ashley responded, rounding the table to settle into her chair. Pamela had just tucked in the last of the papers, when the door peeled open to reveal the feminine figure. “You!” The sheer surprise in Ashley's voice was obvious. A triumphant smirk lifted the corner of Rachel's lips. For once she had evoked a reaction from Ashley. “Yes. Me.” Rachel replied with a taunting smile. “But-” Pamela tried to protest. “I figured you might not agree to see me if you knew it was me.” Rachel answered their question, strolling into the office and occupying the guest seat even before she was told to. “But I know you'd readily see my husband at any time.” Ashley flashed her brows. Rachel walked tiredly. She felt confined to a box labelled exhaustion. Her long dark hair which she had taken extra effort to groom, thinking she was finally going to conquer her enemy, laid like an old overused mop on top of her head. The makeup on her face was a shadow of what it once was. But Rachel didn’t care. She didn’t care about any of that. Her mind was greatly disturbed and she had regretted going to her mom to seek comfort. It was a bad decision that she had made in the spur of her frantic state. Ashley couldn’t be more happy that things were falling into place for her. Not exactly how she had planned it to go, but she was reaching the end destination one way or the other and it gladdened her heart immensely. It would only be a matter of time before Bruce and Rachel fall apart. And it would be too late before they realized what had hit them. She smiled to herself relishing the thought. She had no idea why Bruce suddenly went upstairs or what he had gone there to do. She didn’t bother herself with waiting to find out. It was late in the evening when Ashley got back from the hospital. After talking to Helen, there was no time for her to rest as she had planned to. Talking to Helen had taken up her rest time, so she freshened up and went to see her dad. Dr. Tony gave her some good news. Her father was responding to treatment. It was a good sign but Ashley was impatient to wait. She wanted him to wake up already. She spent time with him, talking to his unconscious state, hoping he could hear her or feel her presence with him. She headed back home afterwards. Too tired to have dinner, she went straight to bed and fell asleep immediately. In the deep sleep that had engulfed her, Ashley heard a distant call. A familiar voice shouting and screaming her name, hurling curses at her. She stirred, whipped her head to the sides trying to shut out the unfriendly voice, but the screams only grew louder, closing in and drawing nearer. Her eyes fluttered restlessly as her mind slowly raced back to consciousness.
