JAREDI watched with a heavy heart as Avery and Riley stepped through the portal, its closure echoing through the space. Sighing, I turned away and headed to my suite. Avery's scent enveloped me, and I closed my eyes, relishing the memory. Her absence would be difficult, but I was determined to retrieve her soon.As I entered, a different scent caught my attention. My brows furrowed, as I turned toward the cellar. There, my father sat alone, drinking. "Why are you here?" I demanded, approaching him.He ignored my question. "I heard she left.""Yes, she did. Are you satisfied now?" My tone dripped with disdain."Stop talking to me like that," he snapped. "She chose to leave, and I'm glad she stood by her word.""What do you mean? You didn't meet her, did you?" I asked, suspicion growing."What if I did?" He countered, a smirk spreading across his face, which increased the anger in me"What the fuck did you say to her?!" I spat out through gritted teeth.He shrugged. "Didn't say much;

I woke up to the ringing of my alarm which I set for 7am. I would resume work at the cafe by 8am then close by 2pm after my shift ends. I had forty minutes to get ready and fifteen minutes to take a cab to the cafe.Leaving my bed, I couldn't help but feel enthusiastic about today's work. It felt nice to work again after doing nothing but just staying idle this past few months. I was used to working, not lazing around - that is a fact. I rushed through my bath, dressing in loose pants and a baggy t-shirt. My hair went up in a quick bun as I grabbed my small cross bag and headed out the door."Good morning, house!" I called out, descending the stairs with a spring in my step.Riley looked up from the dining table, waving at me with a spoonful of cornflakes. I settled opposite her, mirroring yesterday's routine."You sleep well?" Riley asked, her eyes crinkling.I nodded, serving myself cornflakes. "Did you?""Yep." Riley's response was curt, but her gaze lingered, Soni raised the ques

"You're actually a liar," a voice interrupted from nowhere. Immediately, we all turned to see Javier standing up from his seat situated behind the girls. He walked over to stand beside me, his presence a surprise. "I heard you order croissants, not cake," he said, his words met with astonished looks from the girls as they exchanged glances. The outspoken one scoffed, "Who the hell are you to butt in?!" "That doesn't matter. But if you made a mistake, you could've owned up to it instead of trying to blame her." Javier replied, and the girls stood up, their faces red with anger. "You're crazy!" one of them shouted, trying to storm off, but I blocked her way. "You haven't paid yet." They glared, but I just smiled and gestured to the card reader. The girl huffed, threw her card at me, and I caught it with a smirk. I deducted the bill and returned it back to them. "Here you go." I said, stretching out the card to them and they snatched it back, still glaring at Javier and me

TWO MONTHS LATERAVERY"Thanks for the ride. Goodnight." I waved at Javier as I leaped out of the car. I waved at him, watching him drive away.This past two months, Javier and I had gotten closer. I discovered he was cool to be with so why not, but we are nothing more than friends. I had also gotten a new job as a server in a bar. I got bored staying at home after finishing my job at the cafe so I decided to get a new job and that was the only one I could find. They paid more too so it was quite okay. My job at the bar was also cool; I learnt to mix some nice liquor, and I enjoyed it. At first, Riley didn't support me working at bar but she soon gave up and let me do my thing.Javier had just picked me up from the bar after I closed by 8. He said he was close by so he decided to pick me up and I took it with gratitude.As I walked into my eyes, my eyes landed on Riley who was surrounded by boxes and some items. She was currently wrapping a box, but she glanced up at me."You're back.

"Ahh!" I exhaled loudly as I gulped down the glass of champagne in my hand. "Aren't you drinking too much?" Sia who was now beside me. I dropped the glass on the buffet table and glanced at her."It's Christmas so let's celebrate, and besides this is my house, I have nothing to worry about." I said with a shrug.Sia's phone beeped and she checked it before looking up."I have to go now, I have something to attend to.""Your boyfriend?" I leaned closer to her with a teasing smile.Sia nodded, smiling broadly."Go on then." I pushed her forward, urging her to go. She waved at me before walking away.I sighed loudly, taking my gaze to the champagne glass, a drunken smile slowly pulling to my lips. "Just one more and I leave." I giggled and turned around, my eyes searching for any of the hired servers. I finally saw one and I waved him over.I took a champagne glass from the tray he was holding, gulping it down before dropping it back on the tray. My throat tingled slightly as I gulped i
