AVA’S POV I dumped everything out of my bag onto the office couch – my purse, a half-eaten granola bar, two lipsticks, receipts, hand lotion… but no wallet. I blinked, still crouched beside the couch. “No, no, no,” I whispered to myself, picking through the pile one more time like it would magically appear. “I swear I put it in here.” My heart started racing. I opened every zipper, flipped the bag upside down, and even checked my blazer pockets. Nothing. “Think, Ava,” I muttered. “You had it last night. You put it in the bag, right?” But did I?
