Violet's POV I held my breath after I spoke. I wasn't planning on speaking. In fact, that was never the plan between Lynn and me. I looked over at her, and she didn't seem disappointed. Alpha Ares turned to look at me immediately. I didn't look away. I needed him to see that he actually hurt me. By hosting this party and not telling me anything about it. Ares did not look okay. There were dark circles under his eyes, and he missed a button. Something that hadn't happened since I had known him. I almost walked up to him and asked him what was wrong. I almost asked if he needed me to make any kind of soup for him. Lynn's hands were firmly in mine like she could read my thoughts. I locked eyes with her, and she shook her head. Every single person in the room was looking at me. I could tell that some of them recognised me from the last party. And for the ones that didn't, they were obviously getting the gist already. My eyes drifted down to the place where his hands were intertwined

ARES’ POVThe party was over as soon as Violet walked out of the party. All eyes were on me, and my cheeks still burnt from the slap that Luna had given me.“The party is over,” someone shouted, and the other guards had started asking everyone to leave. It felt like the slap had brought me out of the trance that I was in. My head was no longer light, and my feet seemed like it was rooted to the ground. “Are you okay?” Jackie asked immediately. I was noticing every single thing. Her mascara was running down her face like she had been crying. But why? “Just leave me alone,” I said, feeling angry for no reason. I started walking away, but she grabbed me by my arm.“You can't ignore me that way, Ares!” she screamed. “Are you going to be just like other men? Get your way and then abandon the girl because she genuinely loved you?”“What do you mean by get my way?” I asked. It was the second time that she was saying something like that. Without even hesitating. She opened her mouth to spea

ARES’ POVI walked into the priestess’ lair. She was casting a few spells and poring over a few books at the same time. It brought tears to my eyes. Was I ever going to get used to the old priestess not being there? The tears dripped down my cheeks, and I caught myself. Why was I crying? Since when did I become so soft? “You are here, Alpha,” she said, noting my presence. I quickly wiped the tears from my eyes. She paused as she stood up. “Are you crying?” I faked a cough. “Your lair is pretty dirty. You have to keep it clean at all times. Your predecessor would have done a better job.” She was practically shivering. I understood that she was a young girl. Fortunate enough to learn so many spells that she could curse every single person on earth at the same time.By the time I was done speaking, it sounded like I was snapping at her. It was her own turn to cry. She gently wiped her tears with the sleeve of the long gown she was putting on.“What’s wrong?” I asked softly, taking gen

Ares’s POVI felt my knees buckle as soon as the words left Kyros’ lips. “What do you mean by she is missing?” I asked, looking at all of them at the same time, waiting for naswers. None of them could provide one.“Who was with her? Did you guys really leave her alone?!” I asked, almost screaming. Luna looked at me immediately. She laughed in a mocking way. “You want to talk? Have you forgotten that you left her here? Have you forgotten that you abandoned her with us when you knew that she had no one but you?”“When you knew that every single issue and mark on her body was caused because you abandoned her with us when she was supposed to be with you and no one else?”Her statement gave me chills. My hands balled into fists. When did I start feeling bad for abandoning people?“Only the Goddess knows where she is at the moment,” Luna continued. She wasn’t stopping; she wanted to make sure that everything that she was saying got committed to my memory. “It might just be one of those pe

Ares’s POVAs huge as I was, walking around the palace made me feel small. I was suddenly seeing Violet at every turn. The occasional burning in my chest was never stopping. That was the only thing that let me know that she was in pain… I guess. It was the only connection I managed to have with her. It had already been a week since I had last seen her. In fact, since any of us had last seen her. She just disappeared into thin air. I set out a bounty for her. I already had bounty hunters searching for her. Some had even offered to search the cemeteries for bodies. But there was no way I was agreeing to that kind of thing. She was alive and healthy. I felt like she was waiting for me to come and pick her up from wherever she was.Belladonna was constantly around me, offering water and food. She knew how much time I was spending, staying in my werewolf form, looking for her.“I have a strong conviction about something,” Belladonna finally spoke up after staring outside for more than an
