ZANE POV “So Zane, what do you think of Grace?” my mother says it me handing me another picture of her while I'm seated in a suit waiting for Grace and her family to arrive for dinner. I shrug my mind still on what happened earlier today, what was that vision about? Do mates get visions of each other? ELARA POV The voice in my head lingers long after it fades. “Come back home, Elara.” It wasn’t a whisper, not really. It was more like a pulse like something alive inside me. My mark tingles, a phantom burn nestled between my collarbone and neck, the spot Zane claimed like he owned it. I press my fingers to it, as if I could wipe it away, scrub it off like dirt. “I don’t belong to you anymore,” I whisper to the empty room. But my body doesn’t agree. ELARA POV I don’t sleep after that. The second voice echoes in my head long after it vanishes. Unlike Zane’s, this one isn’t tethered by emotion. It’s colder. Older. ELARA POV The scent doesn’t fade. I stand frozen in the middle of the apartment, heart slamming against my ribs, every instinct on high alert. It’s not old. Not faint. It’s fresh. Too fresh.
