Chapter 1

Pauline hurled a grocery bag at me. A solid potato slammed into my belly, and a sharp pain shot through my abdomen."Julie Kane! I've been holding back for too long! You prance around all dolled up every day—anyone would think you're selling yourself on the street! No decent boss would keep someone as indecent as you!"I froze.Where was this coming from?Three months ago, Logan told me she was coming to help since I was in my third trimester."I'm traveling a lot for work," he'd said. "I'll feel better if Mom's here with you."It sounded reasonable. His promotion had him out of town constantly, and I was struggling to keep up. Besides, Pauline and I had always gotten along fine during her brief visits. So, I agreed. At first, she was a saint—cooked every meal, wouldn't let me lift a finger."You've got a full-time job," she'd said. "No need to bother with cooking."Honestly, I never expected the classic mother-in-law meltdown. But one joke—one stupid joke—and everything flipp

Chapter 2

I remembered the day Logan told me Pauline was coming.I spent two days scrubbing the house, setting up a guest bed, and loading the fridge with fresh groceries. She didn't come empty-handed. Pauline strutted in with a plastic bag, pulling out a pot of stewed chicken."Organic chicken! You can't get this in the city. It'll be great for Julie's health!"Logan muttered something about it being unnecessary, but I took the pot with a polite smile. That chicken? It had spent two days on a train. By the time it got here, it was completely rancid.***"That chicken was spoiled. Didn't Logan tell—"Before I could finish, Pauline kicked me hard, sending me sprawling."You're still talking back?!" she barked. "A beggar doesn't get to be picky! Just because you're carrying a girl, you think you're some kind of hero?"I frowned, ready to fire back, when the front door swung open.Logan strolled in, grinning at his phone. Then he glanced up—and froze."What's going on here?"Before I

Chapter 3

I quickly created a private group chat, pulling in my entire team. Not having a family of my own had always made me cling tighter to the people I trusted. My team wasn't just colleagues—they called themselves my "work family."I fired off a message:[@Everyone, if Logan contacts any of you, here's the story—no big deal was signed, and I've been fired.]I stared at my phone, every second dragging out painfully. Logan could not get a straight answer from anyone before I got to them.A reply finally came through—from my assistant.[You planning a surprise for your husband? He just asked me about it! I almost spilled the beans—don't worry, I'll play along. I'll make it sound worse. Got it!]I exhaled in relief, then sent another message:[My marriage is in serious trouble. I'll explain everything when I can, but for now, if Logan reaches out, make sure everyone sticks to the same story!]The responses rolled in fast. No questions. No hesitation.[Got it.][Got it.][Understood.

Chapter 4

"Julie, you actually got fired?" Logan said. "You're pregnant—they can't just kick you out. That's illegal. I'll talk to your boss."I grabbed his arm. "No! Don't."His eyes narrowed, pinning me in place. I kept my voice even. "It's on me. I blew a huge deal. If they weren't cutting me slack for my years there—and the pregnancy—they'd be suing us for damages."The damages would've been in the millions. Even if we emptied our accounts, we'd barely cover it."Logan's frown deepened. Then, without a word, he snatched my phone and started dialing."I'm not letting you go down for this, " he said. "I'll get the truth from your boss."As the phone rang, my chest felt tight. The second my boss answered, her voice was sharp and impatient."Julie Kane! I made myself clear—you're lucky we're not pressing charges. Don't expect anything more from us."Logan hung up, his jaw tight.I let out a quiet breath of relief. Thank God. I'd given my boss a heads-up when I was gathering footage fro

Chapter 5

Logan's scowl deepened. "What the hell are you saying? We agreed to sell the current house and use the money to upgrade! You've seen the contract!"Besides, my mom's a housewife with no income. Where's she supposed to get the money?"Fine, I get it. You're still holding a grudge over what happened earlier."But seriously, think about it. My mom's been taking care of you day and night. And just because she said a few things, you're making this a big deal?"Okay, fine! I'll apologize on her behalf. Happy now?"Noticing the growing whispers around us, Pauline launched into full drama mode. "I knew this would happen!" she wailed. "Getting old means being despised! It's all my fault—my big, stupid mouth! I just keep causing trouble for my poor son and his wife!"She raised her hand like she was about to slap herself. "I should just slap myself—""Aunt Pauline! No!" Yana stopped her. "If anyone's to blame, it's me! I'm young and foolish. I said the wrong things and upset Julie."She

Chapter 6

One by one, my team showed up, forming a solid wall between me and Logan. On the way over, I'd sent them my location—just in case. With their backup, I tried to leave, but Logan stepped in, playing the victim. "Julie, what are you doing? You've been fired! How do you still have the nerve to make your former team run errands for you?"Yana wasn't far behind, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Ugh, having a superior like that? What bad luck! Fired, and she's still ordering people around. Bet she was a nightmare at work, too. No wonder her boss fired her!"Pauline, who'd been flopped on the floor like a drama queen, suddenly sprang up. "That's exactly how she's been at home!"Treating me like a freeloader, like I don't belong in my own son's house! And now she's brought people to gang up on us!"Somebody start recording! Let everyone see the real Julie Kane!"Phones came out fast. Cameras aimed right at my team.I stepped forward, blocking the shot. "Logan McCory! You had an affair

Chapter 7

While waiting for my scheduled induction, Logan called. "Julie, let's be fair—don't you think you're partly to blame?"Since you got pregnant, we haven't had sex once! No man can go that long without it! You, as a wife, haven't fulfilled your duties. So how can you turn around and accuse me?"I let out a cold laugh. The audacity."That's why you went out and found a mistress? Seriously? Logan, how did I never realize you think you're some noble lord? Wife gets pregnant, so you get to take a concubine to 'keep you entertained'? You're pathetic."Take a good look at yourself. You really think you're that important?"Suddenly, Pauline grabbed the phone. "You wretch! What kind of nonsense are you spouting?"Calling yourself the wife? Please. Don't kid yourself. Take a good, hard look in the mirror. That face? You're not even fit to shine Yana's shoes!"Once my grandson is born, Yana will take her rightful place. And you? You'll be dragging that little bastard around, begging to be l

Chapter 8

At eight months pregnant, an induced labor was still full-on childbirth. The baby was crushed and pulled out—just mangled blood and flesh, unrecognizable. The doctor confirmed it—tests showed the meds had wrecked her development. "Even if your baby had survived the birth, she would've been brain-dead."I stared at the mangled, tiny body, my rage solidified into a vow.'Logan. Pauline. You'll pay for this. In blood.'***A few days later, I placed an order for maternity-themed lingerie.Through the camera feed, I watched Yana sign for the package, tearing it open. Her smug little smirk said it all—she thought Logan sent it. She thought she'd won. That evening, when Logan walked in from work, Yana was waiting in the nursery, draped in that lingerie, one leg stretched out like a magazine spread."Logan, don't you want to say hello to your son?"Back when I was barely showing, he couldn't keep his hands off me. A man who couldn't keep it in his pants? No way he'd hold back now.

Chapter 9

Yana broke down completely. "Logan! I'm still young—I don't want to go to jail! I'm pregnant with your son!"The cops glanced from my very round belly to Yana's, their faces oozing 'seriously, dude?' vibes. One of them impatiently waved Logan forward.Under the heat, Logan yanked the pillowcase tighter around his waist and shot me a death glare, teeth grinding. "Julie! You win! Fine. You want a divorce? I'll sign the papers. But let me give you some advice—don't make a decision you'll regret for the rest of your life."Once we're divorced, I'll marry Yana, and we'll be just fine. Happily ever after. Meanwhile, you? You and your baby won't get a single cent from me!"I didn't even blink as he snatched the pen and scrawled his name across the divorce papers. The lawyer slid the documents into his briefcase. Finally, I let out a laugh.Without a word, I reached back, untied the fake pregnancy belly strapped to me, and launched it straight at Logan's face."Baby? What baby?"Logan

Chapter 10

Listening to his impassioned rant, I almost couldn't wait to see his face when he knew the truth. For months, I'd wrestled with one question: why did Pauline want my child dead? Why push her "distant niece" into Logan's bed? If all she wanted was a grandson, why take things that far?It didn't add up.Not until my PI uncovered the real story.Since Logan was so eager to play the devoted son, I decided to help him live up to the role.I planted a rumor that there was a way to get Pauline out of prison. Logan, desperate, took the bait without a second thought. Every asset he fought to strip from me in the divorce? They flowed right back into my hands through the trap I set.Next, I packaged a little gift—a video recording that would bury him. Then I hired a hacker to drop it into his company's group chat. Within hours, the video spread like wildfire. Logan was fired on the spot for "damaging the company's reputation."And his problems didn't stop there.Between Yana's endless dem
