CHAPTER 71Cayla lit a fire and waited patiently for Cade to rouse from his slumber. To say she was stunned by his arrival would be an understatement. CHAPTER 73The moment Cade's skull broke and Cayla saw life fading out of his eyes, something inside of her was shattered. The walls she erected to be able to function crumbled, and a wave of guilt overtook her. She wanted to cry out and scream, but she couldn’t as her neck was grasped tightly by the emperor, who looked to her with a satisfied smile. Her mind was failing to comprehend what she had just witnessed. Her heart was thumping wildly in her chest. Everyone and everything she had ever loved had already died or was now dying before her eyes. They were supposed to be the victors in this battle, not the victims. But now it was like she had led a herd of sheep to their slaughter. “Look at what you've done to all these people. Leading them to an untimely demise. CHAPTER 75Although Richard hesitated initially, he went with Leon to the south after much deliberation. He could not risk the life of his men, so he sent them back to the North. It was something he needed to do alone, and from the look of things, if it was a trap, it was better to fall into it alone. It was a noble but foolish decision, but the best he could think of at the time. The news of Lucien’s demise came as a shock to him. It filled him with rage, and he couldn’t wait to get to the South to unleash his fury on whichever half-bloods that would cross their path. He barely said anything as they traversed the woods. He was completely on alert. He did not let his guard down even for a moment. No sound went undetected by him in the forest. He was on the lookout for anything and everything that could be harmful. “You mentioned a relic,” Richard stated as he confirmed they were alone while they found a resting place. “Yes,” Leon nodded with furrowed brows in thoughtful contemplati
