Diego’s eyes flicked back to the receptionist but his mind wasn’t there. He stared blankly, barely hearing her words. Just then, the Chinese man who had taken the picture with Thersa returned, grinning from ear to ear. “What a woman,” he said cheerfully. “She was so kind. My wife will be thrilled.” He chuckled and glanced at Diego, clearly expecting him to share the excitement. But Diego said nothing. His eyes darkened, jaw tightening as he forced a nod, his fingers twitching at his side. “She’s even more graceful in person,” the man continued. “No wonder the whole world respects her.” Diego let out a low breath, his voice tight. “She’s good at pretending.” The man looked confused by his tone, then politely moved away to join the others.
