The next morning, Marcus left the mansion, but not before sending a team of guards to keep a watchful eye on Sophia. "Except, of course, for any attempt to escape," Marcus added, his voice firm but measured. "She is not to leave the premises under any circumstances. Is that clear?" The guards nodded in unison, their faces expressionless. "Yes, sir. Crystal clear." Marcus nodded, satisfied that Sophia would be well taken care of. He knew that she might still try to find ways to escape, but he was confident that the guards would be able to prevent that from happening. As he left the mansion, Marcus couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. "Marcus, what's wrong?" she asked.Marcus tried to speak, but his voice was hoarse. He pointed to his stomach, and Sophia's eyes widened in understanding."You're hungover," she said, rushing to get him a glass of water. As Sophia helped Marcus sit up and drink the water, he felt a wave of relief wash over him. But it was short-lived, as another wave of nausea hit him, and he leaned over the side of the bed, throwing up.Sophia quickly grabbed a trash can and held Marcus's hair back as he vomited. It morning already, she barely slept all night and now Marcus is knocking on her door. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes, wondering why he was knocking this early,"I hope this is not about the proposal.” She murmured with a smirk on her face.As she swung her legs over the side of the bed, the knocking grew louder. Sophia's heart began to beat faster as she made her way to the door. She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should check the peephole before opening the door. But something about the knocking seemed familiar, seemed...safe. I didn't know what else to do, I can’t watch you end up with that man because of my failures.”Sophia took a deep breath, trying to calm down. She needed to think clearly and figure out what to do next."Okay, Dad. We'll deal with this. But you need to tell me everything. How much money did you borrow? And what did Ryder say exactly?" Sophia asked, her eyes locked on her father's.Her father hesitated, then began to explain. "I borrowed $50,000.
