After the most awkward ride in Cara’s life, she and Madam Davis arrived at First Class Hospital's parking lot. She had just stepped out of the car and was waiting for the older woman to come down too when she froze at the mention of her name. Cara would recognise Martin’s voice anywhere, but for the love of God, why did she have to run into him here today of all days? Especially since she was in the company of her mother-in-law. She pretended not to hear him calling her name, but her hair stood on end as his approaching footsteps grew louder. “Cara—” Martin had barely gotten the word out when Madam Davis cut in sharply from the side. “Cara, who is this man?” Cara’s heart slammed against her ribs. Without missing a beat, she turned to Martin with a blank, polite expression. “I don’t know him.” The words hit Martin like a slap. His dark eyes widened in shock, his jaw tightening visibly.
