Lahat ng Kabanata ng THE TRIBUTE QUEEN OF THE DRAGON KING : Kabanata 1 - Kabanata 10

~DAHLIA~The scent of ‘Khóri’, the sacred burning incense, is so thick and everywhere in the air of the Velmirian Palace. So thick with myrrh and something else that smells like a bad mixture of ashes and wild herbs. It wraps around me like a funeral shroud. Like a stubborn hand gripping my throat.Outside these palace walls, the rest of the kingdom of Velmira sleeps beneath a blood red moon. But sleep is the last sensible thought on my mind right now.My name is Dahlia Rhadaya Balerion. The crown princess of Velmira. And tonight, standing alone outside at the threshold of my father’s chambers, fear is curling inside my stomach like a wicked viper biting into my guts with poisoned fangs.Something is wrong. Who am I kidding? Something is always wrong in this stupid palace. The fear twists harder as I approach the two hefty guards stationed at the giant doors leading into my father's chambers. On seeing me, the men shift uneasily on their posts.Snakes.These are men who once swore the

~DAHLIA~The journey to Drakarith is long. Brutal. And without rest. But I am not going to die that easily.I didn't stay alive all these years just to simply watch Andessa and her rotten fertilized eggs completely pollute everything that my father worked so hard for.I am not going to die.Sitting shackled inside the steel cage transporting me to Drakarith, I try to make more sense of my surroundings with the help of the morning dawn now rising. The soldiers accompanying me on this exiled journey are not Velmirian. They are Drakarithian soldiers.Andessa probably had them on standby back in Velmira to whisk me away as fast as she could.Velmira has long since vanished beyond huge mountain cliffs, swallowed by thick white mist and an ancient wall of magic wards and shards that was built many centuries ago by the ancestral Dragon Kings of Drakarith. The wall of dragon magic now grants limited access to our human kingdom of Velmira after our alliance with them was forged. An alliance I

~DAHLIA~The dungeons of Drakarith are unlike any prison I have ever seen or imagined. There are no rusted bars, no damp stone dripping with the stench of decay.Instead, the stone walls have molten lava flowing through the black cracks. The heat here is unbearable, forcing sweat to spill out everywhere on my body.Even the very breath I take is hot and it burns. But the worst part isn’t just the fire. It’s the silence. A kind of silence that makes me fear and wonder if I am the only living soul here. What I am beginning to understand in this place is that just because I was brought here as a Queen Tribute, doesn't mean things will be easy for me.Right now, I am seated in one of the cells, faraway from the walls. The guards chained my wrists, and the metal cuffs are searingly hot against my skin. The moment those cuffs were locked into place, I felt a strange sensation that instantly paralyzed my body with weakness.I can still feel the weak sensation. Something from these cuffs is s

~DAHLIA~When I wake up the next morning, the light strikes into my eyes from outside the high open windows of the cell.I squeeze my eyes shut instantly and stir on the floor.I couldn't sleep well last night. Even now, my mind is still filled with bitter memories I can't forget.I dreamt of my father. Of his weak, last breath before he passed away.I also dreamt of Andessa’s false accusations against me as she claimed my father's throne. Publicly humiliating me in my father's corrupt court with Alistair and Cressida bullying me before everyone like they always do.The both of them watched as my world crumbled around me.I will watch them burn.Gathering strength into me, I manage to sit up, my bones aching me. Father's last words to me rings inside my head:‘Andessa poisoned me. Trust… no one….’He trusted the wrong person. Even he once told me that trust is a tricky virtue. One that must be thoroughly earned.Yet, he didn't heed his own advice. He fell too quickly for that snake An

~DAHLIA~The doors boom shut behind me, causing me to flinch a bit.Keep it together, Dahlia. My heartbeat rises with the uneasiness settled deep in my bones, but I force my hands not to tremble.Looking around, I instantly feel swallowed up by the large room adorned with bronze patterned stone walls and a massive bed dressed in the richest blood red fabrics I have ever seen. There are golden fire candelabras with their flames casting dancing shadows across the walls behind them in soft glows. A king’s domain. Fitting for the ruler of a kingdom as dominating as Drakarith. It's a little hot in here, and I rub my arms slightly, also inhaling the sweet scent of oils mixed with warmed water and steam that is filling the atmosphere and mingling in a way that prickles my skin. At the far end of the room, there is a corner covered with long flowing curtains hanging down a shiny rail pole. The curtains are white and very light, and I can clearly see the silhouette of someone getting up fro
