Chapter Seventy-one

“ I can see the correlation in your argument, defendant, but this is not enough to have a verdict in your favour. The evidence we have as of right now in this court clearly points the accusing finger at your client”, The judge said, sounding almost sympathetic. He was correct. The things we provided were just conspiracy theories and not actual finger-pointing facts, and they cannot be used to rule in our favour. I looked at Cole, silently asking him about Dominic and the footage, and he made a subtle sign with his fingers to indicate that Dominic was on his way to the court. I nodded, taking solace in the fact that at least, Dominic was coming. All we needed now was time. “ Then, your honour, permit me to invite a witness for questioning”, I said to the judge. I really needed to stall time, and questioning a witness could prove to be just what we needed up until Dominic arrives. “ Permission granted”, the judge said. “ Thank you, your honour”, I said and turned to Charl

Chapter Seventy-two

Dominic nodded back and carried his laptop to the tech guy who was sitting beside the large projector in the courtroom. They spent a few seconds connecting and disconnecting some cables, and in about two minutes, the projector was lit on. There was suspense in the air as people waited to see what it was that we were going to show them. Dominic played the footage and it showed a fairly lit room where some guys and girls were seated, drinking and smoking and laughing at the top of their voices. Some of the girls were on top of some of the guys, kissing and smooching as they dimmed fit. Everything played out just like Charlie had said, starting first with the feminist question which earned the poor Edwina a hot slap across the face, followed my multiple punches and kicks to the abdomen, and the devil called Josh never stopped, not even when the poor girl was crying and pleading to him to stop. It got more crueler to watch as Josh grabbed one of the guys by the neck and pushed

Chapter Seventy-three

Love. It was feisty word, and it was more feisty as a feeling than as a word. During my recovery in the hospital after Hakim had almost sent me to my early grave, I came across the story of Hadrian and Antinous. The love story of these folks who existed during the 2nd century in the Roman empire was something that I fell heavily in love with. Hadrian was at that time, the Roman emperor, and Antinous was his lover. According to historical accounts, everyone knew the kind of relationship the two men had, and the profound love they had for each other, but sadly, their love story was cut short when Antinous died during a voyage on the Nile river. It was said that Hadrian wept for days unending, refusing to be consoled after the death of his lover. The members of the royal court even said that he wept like a woman and was criticized for showing such emotion, but that didn't stop Hadrian from grieving about his one and only lover. His grief and sense of loss was so much that i

Chapter Seventy-four

“ But he's alive, okay? That's all that matters”, Mr Creepy said, making it sound so much like he was administering medication after death. Who the hell does that? I clutched my chest, looking around for a seat because I was pretty sure that I would collapse to the floor if care wasn't taken. “ Are you alright?” He asked and I just nodded, determined to get to that chair at the side before my knees failed me. How dare him ask me such a question when he just told me that Basil was shot twice in the abdomen and once in the chest? And on top of that he says “ he's alive, that's all that matters”. Sure. All that matters for now. Who on earth has ever survived two gunshots to the abdomen with another huge bonus to the chest? Like, who? I finally got to the chair and in no time, I found myself crying again, bulging my eyes out silently. Mr Creepy didn't say anything. He just came and sat beside me, and when it seemed as if I wouldn't stop, he lent his hand on my shoul

Chapter Seventy-five

Hakim's POV Dante was killing it in court with his arguments, but it was very clear to me that he wasn't going anywhere with it. He needed more evidence, and it didn't seem like he had it. That made me feel both relieved and kind of angry at the same time. I was relieved because his client will end up going to jail on behalf of whoever it is that the senator was trying to protect, and that the senator wouldn't have to know his name and add him to his black list, and I was angry, or rather disappointed that he couldn't tackle the case. A part of me wanted to yell and scream and dance for him like some cheerleader, while another part of me was satisfied that he wasn't going anywhere near winning; that was all before the video tape of Josh Lightwood beating the girl like a pulp was played. It was so so horrible that I could barely watch. No one should be made to suffer that way, but an innocent girl did, all because she said something that Josh Lightwood didn't agree with. Watch

Chapter Seventy-six

Dude! The senator was already angry that his nephew was found guilty and was about to be convicted for a hideous crime, and that it might most probably affect his political career, and now this?! This?! Oh my gosh. Dante was vividly insinuating that the senator was a sexual offender, and what other way was there to turn the public against a political figure if not portraying him as a rapist or a pedophile. I went through the comment section and gosh, it was no joke. Different conspiracy theories started, with everyone saying what was on their minds, and it definitely was not in favour of the senator. Many people started uploading videos saying that the senator was also part of the Epstein files. The house of senate were still debating on whether or not to release the Epstein files, and seriously, linking the senator to it was no good for anyone who loved his life enough to want to keep it. Just as I was still going through it all, someone barged into my office. The force with

Chapter Seventy-seven

Dante's POV Cole didn't ask me anything. Not one thing. I knew he was dying to ask, I knew he was curious, but he didn't ask, knowing fully well that I would've told him if I had wanted to. I always knew that he was like that. The type to read the room and intuitively know what to do and what not to do, the type who sees things that ordinarily, other people won't see. I always knew he was that caring and compassionate, but his action that night reminded me of that quality in him, making my heart beat a bit faster for him. I was also thankful that he didn't ask me anything, because tell me how the hell I was going to explain to him that the reason I was crying was because some guy that I was in a situationship with (I call it situationship because what Basil and I had was definitely not a relationship, at least not yet) got shot and was being hospitalized. I mean, will that even make sense? “ It's okay, it's alright”, he said as he gently stroked my hair, my nostrils filled wi

Chapter Seventy-eight

Do you know that feeling where you just wish that the ground would open up and swallow you up? Like, you wouldn't even care if you died, you just want the silly ground to open up it's mouth and feed on you? Yeah, that feeling. That was what I felt when after pouting my lips and closing my eyes, awaiting Cole's lips, all I felt was his hand on my hair. “ You have something here”, he said, trying to get something out of my hair. I was already dumbfounded as it was, and so so confused about what was going on. I thought he wanted to kiss me! “ Oh, here it is”, he said, showing me the white thread that was caught up in my brown hair. “ Mmh”, I sighed, grinning awkwardly and feeling jealous of those who lived in the middle belt where earthquakes were rampart. He got out of the car before I did, and then waved me good night and left. Now that was strange. He always wanted to come upstairs to my apartment, he even did so on one of the occasions he last came, and we h

Chapter Seventy-nine

“ Oh, okay”, she the nurse said, “ he's in room 304”. “ Thank you very much”, I replied and made my way to the elevator. Mr creepy was already there in the room, seated by Basil’s bedside when I walked in. “ Hi”, I said, slowly walking into the room as if I was literally walking on egg shells. “ Hello”, he replied with a smile, “ I guess you're here to see him?” He asked, pointing at Basil. “ Yes, I am”, I came closer to the bed, “ how's he doing?” “ Still recovering. The doctor said his vitals are looking good, so most probably, he should be waking up soon”, Mr creepy said and I nodded, letting my eyes fall fully on the man laying on the bed. His eyes were covered, but not tightly, and his breaths were so slowly that his chest wasn't even doing the upward and downward movement that I was familiar with. He was wearing a hospital gown, and had a tube connected to his mouth, together with two intravenous lines on both of his arms, each connected to a large IV bag. He l

It was cringe. So cringe. Watching them as they still held their gaze, probably forgetting that I was even there watching their silly drama. What arrant nonsense? I looked closely at the guy and recognized him as one of the police officers who had been here yesterday. “ So sorry about that”, the guy said to Sasha. “ No problem, I understand”, Sasha said, her cheeks almost turning red. He turned to me, finally noticing that there was another person in the same space. “ Oh, hi, you were here yesterday, right? With Officer Gabriel?” He asked. “ Yeah”, I said, nodding and articulating his looks. No wonder Sasha couldn't tear her gaze away from him. He was stoic, with a sharp jaw line and a little spray of frinkles on his face, just right below his eyes. His hair was bedraggled, as if he hadn't washed or combed it in over a week, but even with that, he was a pure living work of art, the real definition of walking out of a painting. “ What's up?” He leaned in for a bro hu
