The alley reeked of stale beer and something far worse—a cloying sweetness that clung to the air like a shroud. Matt, hidden in the shadows, watched the woman. Her terror wasn't just visible; it pulsed, a frantic rhythm against the suffocating darkness. He saw the stark white of her eyes, wide and desperate in the gloom, felt the frantic hammering of her heart as a physical vibration in the air.
