SIMEON Coughing out its last breath of steam, the train shook to a halt at a platform that appeared to have been unpainted since the last world war. The town was old and dirty and just when I got down, the smell of sweat and cheap perfume drifted into my nose.A cloying mixture of diesel, fumes and something vaguely rotten filled the heavy thick air and I hated myself for coming here but it was important. This was not Italy as it was described in travel brochures with its sun-drenched hills and historic ruins. This was a different part of Italy and I couldn't wait to leave here already and return to the comfort of my condo . I had lived in Italy all my life but you see this rundown town, I had never set my eyes or been here before. The faded clothing and suspicious looks that greeted me as I entered the dusty platform were a sharp contrast to my black fitted suit which felt like a lighthouse in this place. And in a fruitless attempt to fit in with this forgotten setting, I pulled

SIMEON It was cold now. Or perhaps I was alone. And the silence was bothersome. As if he could read every lie I had just told him the Angel of Death remained seated across from me gazing into my soul. He didn't say anything and it annoyed me and made me scared. I made an effort to remain motionless but my heart was pounding. I tried to keep a composed face and I knew I would be dead if I now appeared weak. He gently tapped the picture of Sarian with one finger. He maintained eye contact with me. “You don't want me to hurt her? " he whispered. “No!” I said immediately before I could stop myself. He raised an eyebrow. “But she left you for him?” He said and I wondered what he was driving at, what he was doing.“I said he kidnapped her.”“Oh, I see.” He spoke in a too-calm tone again. However I was aware that the most dangerous thing was calm. He and other men never yelled when they were going to murder. They spoke softly. Trying not to show the fear that was rising in my face, I sw

CATALINA I jumped out of the car and then the heavy oak door clicked shut behind me, reverberating throughout my estate's vast hall. The sound of my heels echoed against the vast empty room showing how lonely the mansion was. A week ago, I had sent all the staff away and needed privacy. With its lofty ceilings, priceless artwork and grand staircases this house used to represent my victory. My father's victory before his death. We claimed the property after killing a mafia lord and his whole family. My father had given it to me as a birthday present but now the house didn't feel welcoming. I walked slowly to my study, my head was hammering and I took the decanters. I poured myself some small amounts of brandy and threw some ice at it. I hadn't needed a smoke but that would be later. I put the cold glass straight onto my desk's shiny mahogany, skipping the coaster altogether. My head was pounding after the discussion with Simeon. I should have stayed back and ordered a home service s

DON JULIO Two newly employed maid set the table, one of them talking to Sarian in her very off English as she placed a jug of coffee on the table. I stood by the window, my back against them as I watched the early morning sun.Strong coffee and Sarian's sweet perfume blended together to create a scent that quickly became addictive and the air was cool and still. Just the perfect weather for two. The maids left and I went to the dinning and took a seat opposite her. She poured my coffee and pushed the cup to my directio.“Good morning,” she smiled m This was the kind of life I wanted . Not one filled with guns and blood and hate and revenge. Soft smiles, quiet breakfasts and peace was what every mafia lord needed once in a while. For twenty years, the smell of guns, oil from the previous night of killings, the bitter taste of stale whiskey and the reports from my trusted men had dominated my mornings. When governors heard my name, they shuddered and men crossed the street. Fear,

SIMEONSeventy-two hours. Three days or wherever stupid instructions I had been given. I scoffed. That is what I got from the Angel of Death. Must he be so stupid and brainless. He should have jumped for joy and not threaten me over something I had brought to his notice. It wasn't everyday that people get this kind of beautiful information.I actually didn't give a fuck, he can threaten and even yell for all I fucking care. I have got my father's protection and it was all that mattered and as far as I was sure no harm would come to me, just that Catalina should keep to her own end of the bargain else she might not like what would happen next.I was drinking whiskey and half-watching nude women perform on stage in a dark club trying to block out the one thing that was bothering me. She. Sarian. . Eve. Whatever it was that she was called. I should have gone after her. By now I should have pulled her in, I should have killed Don Julio and make her mine. However her face was all I coul
