HAZEL’S POVThe notification buzzed around twenty minutes past midnight. In the quietness of the room I spent the night, it sounded so loud that it pulled me from my restless half-sleep. I sat up quickly and reached for the laptop still open on the bed beside me.The forum had responded and the message they left was chilling. (Based on the image provided, this pill closely matches a compound used in suppressive sedation and is commonly associated with memory dampening in shifters. It's not FDA regulated and any one currently taking such drug should see a medical consultant.I stared at the words, baffled at what I was seeing. To be sure I wasn't hallucinating, I read it the second time and then a third time, my stomach twisting cold and tight.Memory dampening? So it wasn't healing or speeding my recovery like Blaine said. It was in fact the exact opposite of everything Blaine had told me these pills were meant to do.I set the laptop down slowly, my hands trembling now and this wa

HAZEL’S POV*Two days later*“Listen carefully.” The voice came the second I answered.I had expected a greeting but none came. Instead it was a low and slightly distorted voice that has so much urgency I knew I couldn't skip or end the call.I froze, the phone pressed tight against my ear. My breath caught before I could even form a response.“Who is this?” I demanded, my heart pounding. “Where did you get my number from and why are you calling…?”“it doesn't matter where I got your number from. I don't have time,” the voice cut in sharply. “You need to hear this and I need you to remember what I have to say to you because it matters more than anything you think matters to you”Something in my chest tightened.“Roland is alive.” thean said, urgently like it was a great news that couldn't wait.Everything around me stopped. It was like time was frozen and I could picture a lot of things to say but the only words that left my mouth was…“What?”“Blaine has him.”My fingers curled tigh

HAZEL’S POVI found Marta in the kitchen the next morning. She was wiping down the counter where she had worked on a a dough. She wiped it out, get back at. “You told him.” I said quietly, my voice startling her. Her hands stilled when she heardu voice but zhe didn’t turn around right away. “Told him what?”“Dont play games Marta. I know that you told him I was in his study week ago.” I said. She set the cloth down slowly, finally facing me, something apologetic already forming in her expression before she’d said a word. “I didn't have an option, ma'am,” she said. “He asked me directly if you had entered his study. I couldn’t lie to him.”“Couldn’t, or wouldn’t?”“Both,” she admitted. “I’ve worked in this house a long time, Miss Hazel. I know who Alpha Blaine is and I know that lying to Alpha Blaine isn’t something I can afford to do lightly.”I studied her, frustration and understanding tangled together in my chest. “Still doesn't make me feel any better about what you did. I'd l

BLAINE’S POVThe pack meeting ran longer than expected. I hated that I had to sit down in one spot talking about stuff that didn't matter to me. By the time I got home, the sky had already darkened and the last traces of daylight were swallowed by the creeping night.I killed my engine at the garage and stepped off of the car. The moment my feet touched the ground, I felt something was odd.I didn't know what off or why I felt this way but I had a good number of years alive to know that this kind of feeling turned out to be true and I had to trust my instincts.I stepped inside slowly, my gaze sweeping across the entire entryway and the hall beyond it. Everywhere was silent and nothing looked out of place. Infact, it was clean and organized in a way that I loved.I moved through the house without calling for anyone. Something was odd but I couldn't pinpoint what was wrong. I that of truly something was odd, I'd have to find it my self without calling on any of the staffs. One thing

HAZEL’S POVMy father didn’t let go of my hand as he led me deeper into the house. The house was warm with soft lighting. My geese dated around as I took in the beautiful interior design of the house. Everywhere felt oddly familiar in a way that my body recognized even though my mind couldn't catch up yet He guided me into a sitting room and gently pressed me down onto the couch before taking the seat across from me and that was when I noticed that his hands were still trembling not just from shock but from a lot of emotions he was feeling at the same time right now. “After the attack on your home,” he began quietly, rubbing his palms together like he was trying to steady himself, “we started hearing rumors.”I leaned forward slightly, ears pricked.“The news spread around that you were attacked by intruders.” He continued. “the rumors spread that rogue werewolves were the ones responsible for the attack and that you were being taken to the hospital but nothing was confirmed and
