Darius' POV I felt it even before I was fully awake, and it wasn't a pleasant feeling. I felt pain, but an entirely different kind. It wasn't the sharp, physical and almost excruciating pain I was forced and taught to ignore, it was something else. The kind that slithered through my chest and squeezed until my lungs were on the verge of collapsing. It was sudden and crippling, and if I were given a choice, I would choose to be stabbed a million times over than feel what I was feeling now. The pain traveled through my spine, choking and coiling around vital parts of my body. Just when I expected the worst, it stopped. It was so sudden, that if the burning aftermath it left in its wake didn't linger behind, then I would have thought that I'd imagined the whole thing. I jolted upright in a heartbeat. My hearts raced, and I didn't miss how the sheets clung to my skin with sweat. My quarters were still, and so was the night, but something was wrong. Very very wrong. I could feel it.

Kiara's POV The air in the grimwood was thicker and heavier than I remembered. It clung to my skin like sweat and it almost felt like a second skin of some sort. The air was thick with mist, and the sour scent of leaves rotting away, or human bodies. A memory flashed in my mind the moment the scent hit my nose. It smelled disgusting to say the least, not to talk of the trauma that came with it. The last time I was in here, I'd smelled it a couple of times, but I'd refused to acknowledge it, refused to acknowledge that there were dead bodies in here too. Why? I feared ending up like them if I'd failed to retrieve the fang, but now, that was the least of my fears. I just wanted to make it out alive, without whatever was inside me eating me up first. Darius' POV The corridor outside Lyra's room was dimly lit. A few light bulbs were placed here and there, but it seemed to flicker on and off at intervals, bathing the entire place in a kind of eerie light. It could be unnerving to some, but that wasn't what made my stomach churn. It had something to do with a feisty and stubborn woman who just happened to be a rogue. Our mate. My wolf reminded me. She's our mate. I was getting tired of the constant reminders, and at the same time, I craved her more than ever. She'd haunted my dreams more times than I'd liked, and now, I'd kissed her. Fuck. Kiara's POV This dream didn't start like the others, a d I should have taken that as my first sign that something was about to go horribly wrong.
