Zelda’s povI was sitting in my own room, drinking in the cool of the night when I was aroused by someone tapping at the door. Irritated at being interrupted, I glanced towards the door with a feeling of impatience. The door creaked slowly open—and a woman entered as she stood hesitating by the door.My brows went up spitefully, “What are you doing?” I cried irritably. “Why didn’t you come straight in? Why did you tap at all?”“I’m sorry ma’am,” she bowed. “But some men are at the garden and they seem hellbent on meeting with you.”I squinted at her, “What men? What men, tell me!” "Your employees who were supposed to get rid of Katherine, madam. They've arrived."This riled me up. Those idiots were not supposed to be at the house. What were they even thinking. If anyone from Dacre’s circle saw them it would be linked to me."Take me to them."She nodded quickly, relieved, and turned to lead me out. As I followed her through the quiet halls, I could feel it rising inside of me. I had

Katherine’s povI opened my eyes as I saw the sun come into the room. I blinked. I felt strange. Not tired. Not scared but free.I could feel my insides bubbling with excitement.I felt strong. I was not going to be afraid anymore. I was not going to be quiet.Zelda was rude to me the other day. She spoke to me like I was dirt. Like I did not belong. But today? No. Not again. I would not cry. I would not hide.I touched my belly. I was still pregnant. The baby was growing inside me. Dacre’s child. And I would be strong for my baby.I stood up from the bed and walked to the bathroom. My body was still sore. The hospital visit yesterday was rough as I looked in the mirror. My face had a small bruise. My arms had scratches. With a sigh I cleaned my bruises up with soap and warm water.“It’s fine,” I smiled. “You’re safe. You’re stronger now.”I had my bath and when I was done I got dressed. I wore a long yellow dress with small flowers on it. The sleeves were soft. I liked the way it fe

Zelda’s povI held the golf club in my hand as I played golf that day. The day was mellow, the grass fresh with greenness beneath my feet. But it was not a peaceful day for me.It was too much rage boiling within me but I tried my best to stay silent and calm in a positive way.I looked at the golf on the ground. It was white and round on the ground before me. I swung my arm back away from me very slowly, and bringing it forward caught the white ball hard. It soared straight into the air, landed far, then rolled quickly toward its target."Not bad," said Simone beside me.“Thank you,” I replied, not smiling.Simone was one of the few people I could call a friend. She was also pretty rich. Richer than most, just not richer than me. She had a good laugh and a biting wit and a tender heart. We’d been friends for twenty years and counting and she was my best friend.Just like me she loved to torture anyone who would come close to her family and pose in the name of love. I have her advice

Dacre’s povI got out from the car and made my way into the house. The moment I hit in, the atmosphere I had missed hit me.The air smelled like fresh polish and soft food. The guards bowed as I passed. I didn’t speak to them. I never do.I walked straight to the living room. Two maids were dusting the shelves.“Where is she?” I asked, my voice low and calm. They both froze. One looked up at me slowly. “If it’s Miss Katherine, she is inside the room, sir.”I turned without saying a word and walked away. The halls were quiet. My footsteps were soft but strong. I pushed open the door to her room. It wasn’t locked. She looked up from her position on the bed as she was eating from a tray on her lap.She was shocked to see me then she smiled.“Welcome back,” she said. “How was your trip?”But I wasn’t here for that nonsense.“What’s been going on since I left?”She paused. Her fork stayed in the air for a moment. Slowly, she put her eyes down to her food as she sighed.“Nothing. Everything

Simone’s povI smiled. “We had tea. We talked. We made a plan.”“A plan?” she asked, confusion wrinkling her forehead.“Yes. A plan about you.”She leaned back a little. “Me?”“Yes. You’re moving into their house tomorrow.”Her mouth fell open. “What?”I nodded my head. “You heard me right. You’re moving in.”She stared at me “Mom, why would I do that?”“Because it’s the right thing.”For who?“For you. For me. For our future.”She stood up. “No, I don’t understand you. You’re not making any sense.”I looked directly at her. “Because I’m your mother and I love you.”She crossed her arms. “That doesn’t explain anything.”I crossed mine too. “Renee, do you even understand? Zelda is richer than I am. Ten times richer. She has businesses I can only dream about. Her house is ten times this one’s size. She has connections, power, money, and her son is Dacre.”Renee raised an eyebrow. “So?”“So, this is your chance to build a future with them. I’ve done my part by introducing you. Now it’s y
