Chapter 21 Yasmine POV He lifted me like I weighed nothing. I hated that my body relaxed anyway, boneless and spent, my ankle throbbing with every step he took through the trees. The night air felt damp on my skin; the leaves whispered above us like they were gossiping. “Put me down,” I muttered. “No.” His voice was flat, steady. “You’re hurt.” “I can walk.” “You can’t,” he said, not even looking at me. “Save your pride for later.” “I don’t need—” “You need to stop arguing with me for five minutes,” he snapped, not loud, but sharp enough to sting. I shut up because the pain in my ankle flared again, hot and mean.
