'Confusing.' The only word I could find to describe what happened and what is currently going on. I can't take much more of the pain. It already hurts too much. Everything hurts. My body is too beaten for this. I step away from the altar, and Malphas approaches me with a slow step. I shake my head, walking back with a limp. "Y-you would need..." I choke up on the words as he grabs my arms and pulls me in. My throat feels like it's closing up, a strangled sound coming out of my throat. I've never pleaded for anything in my life. Not even for food when I was starving. Not even for the abuse I received from the pack to stop. Not even when I didn't have the strength to work for the very air I breathe. Not for mercy. Or for someone to care. We safely carried both of these precious things to the surface. From that tunnel, as soon as we lifted the vial, a way out opened. And by some architectural genius our ancestors created, my wolves found a way out as well. We hadn't realized how much time had passed since we started the trip from the village. The night had already fallen. Time was a strange concept in the catacombs. For most of it, it felt like no time had passed at all. We lead our group to a safe spot within the vast woods beyond the ravine. How and what logic applied to our exit on this side of the mountains, I didn't care. What I cared for was with me. As I made that decision, I felt the pinch of excitement in my gut. Fighting for my freedom it's something I never did. Not that I was ever forced to stay in the pack, but in my 26 years, I've never thought about leaving and finding something better. Omegas can't survive on their own. Or so every wolf ever says. I'd like to try and prove them wrong. I reckon I'll do better and be in less pain if I'm on my own. Staring up at the ceiling, I don't count the moments that pass. After that night, nothing else happened. For the next few nights, he would return, sitting in that chair, watching me read. He didn't approach me or touch me. Or even speak to me much. I decided not to question it. Elyse has been helping me do some weird stretching exercises, and my ribs feel much better. My ankle, too, hasn't been aching as much. I have to say it's a weird feeling with the restriction on my legs, but it's not uncomfortable. I don't have to worry about he wind or wear multiple layers to keep my legs warm. The shoes she left as well are a perfect fit. I decided to dress in the bathroom. I have to say, having access to everything is still odd to me. Warm water and a bath every day, my hygiene has never been this good. I smooth out th
