Chapter 1

"Hold off on the surgery. Have all the doctors wait outside," Alpha David commanded. The doctor, who had just slipped on his gloves, froze. "Alpha David, MissSerina's burns are severe. There are traces of wolfsbane in her system, preventing her natural healing. If we don’t act now—if we don’t detoxify and operate—she won’t just be disfigured. She could lose her wolf completely. If that happens, she’ll be wolfless, vulnerable, and—""Ruined?" Alpha David cut in with a cold chuckle. "If she’s ruined, so be it."I was barely conscious, my body a wreck of seared flesh and excruciating pain, but my hearing was sharp. And the way he said it—so indifferent, so final—made my stomach churn harder than the wolfsbane had.A pause. Then my mother spoke, her voice hesitant. "David...Serina is too gravely injured to participate in the Beta selection tomorrow. Maybe we should—""Should what?" His voice turned sharp. "Let her recover? Give her a chance to fight back? No. If she can’t be Beta, she’ll f

The first thing I felt when I woke up was pain.A deep, bone-gnawing pain that made my wolf whimper weakly in the back of my mind. She was still there—barely—but I could feel how weak she was, how much the wolfsbane had drained her. Normally, a werewolf’s body would heal on its own, even from severe burns. But with the poison still in my system, I was trapped in this raw, agonizing state. And that’s when I heard them."David,Serina’s condition is already so severe. We’ve delayed her treatment for two days now, and you still want to give her the hospital’s newly developed psychological medication?"It was my mother’s voice, just outside my hospital room."The doctor said the drug hasn’t been fully tested yet. The side effects might include seizures and incontinence," my mother said hesitantly. After a few seconds of silence, Alpha David’s voice turned resolute. "That’s exactly what we need."A cold sweat prickled down my spine."Today is Becky’s celebration banquet. There will be man

Gasps erupted in unison.A face disfigured beyond recognition by fire was exposed under the cameras' relentless scrutiny."Oh my God, that’s disgusting. Is that even human?""I’m gonna puke. Damn, that’s hideous—a hell devil come to life in broad daylight."Their words sliced through me like silver blades. My heart pounded, the sound deafening in my ears. I couldn’t even process the shame fast enough before another voice, gleeful and dripping with malice, rang out:"The most arrogant female warrior—immoral, malicious, and spiteful. She deliberately set a fire to kill her sister and ended up paying the price. They say there isn’t a single patch of intact skin left on her. Let’s see for ourselves what it means when karma comes knocking."Phones were lifted. Streams went live.My stomach churned. My vision blurred as black spots danced before my eyes. Then—A hard shove.I hit the ground, my already battered body collapsing under the force. My clothes—thin, oversized hospital scrubs—rippe

Pain.It was the first thing I registered. Then came the voices，Muffled at first."Mom, are you sure it’s okay to transfer all of Dad’s inheritance to me? Won’tSerina be upset if she finds out?"Becky’s sickly-sweet voice slithered through the door.My mother chuckled, her tone indulgent. “She doesn’t get a say. She’s marrying David; she’ll never have to worry about food or shelter. What does she need that money for? Back when your father passed away and things were toughest, I was diagnosed with acute leukemia. You were the one who donated blood to me every day and even gave me your bone marrow. From that moment, I swore you were my only true daughter.”A pause. Then a sigh, filled with affection. “This inheritance is the least I can do for you. Besides, I know you like David too. I’ve already spoken with him.Serina, in her condition, is unlikely to be able to bear children. On their wedding night, you’ll take her place, and it’ll be you who gives him his first pup.”My blood turned t

The hallway was eerily silent, as if even the air had frozen in place.Alpha David clenched his phone tightly, his voice filled with anger. "Have you lost your mind? How dare you curse my Luna?"Standing nearby, Becky caught the voice on the phone, and a fleeting glimmer of joy flickered in her eyes. She quickly put on her mask of fake concern."David, don’t be upset," she cooed, slipping a hand onto his arm. "It must beSerina trying to get back at you for locking her up. She probably teamed up with the butler to play a trick on you. You know how she is—always lying and using cheap tricks to get your attention."“If you ask me, you should send her to the Rogue Den for a while. Let her suffer a bit, and she’ll understand how good you are to her. That’s the only way to deal with someone as shameless as her.”Listening to Becky’s endless chatter, Alpha David’s patience snapped for the first time."Shut up."Becky flinched."Since when do you think it’s your place to meddle in my affairs w

On the way back, his phone kept flashing real-time updates about the fire at the Silver Claw Packhouse, the notifications nearly taking over the entire screen. Alpha David was visibly shaken, his grip on the steering wheel tight enough to make his veins bulge. His wolf, restless and agitated, pushed at the edges of his control. He ran countless red lights, the engine growling as he floored the gas."Faster." His wolf snarled in his head.By the time they reached the Packhouse, Alpha David practically stumbled out of the car. And then, his entire body locked up.The entire Packhouse was engulfed in flames. The inferno raged like a living beast, its fiery tendrils licking at the sky. Smoke billowed thick and black, curling toward the heavens. The scent of burning wood, scorched flesh, and melted stone filled the air—a suffocating, acrid stench that made his wolf rear back in distress.Firefighters in orange uniforms darted around, shouting orders, while medics rushed between the injure

Alpha David hastily grabbed the recorder, muttering his thanks repeatedly. The moment he pressed play, all the strength drained from his body.It was a recording of him and his mother talking outside the operating room.Their voices discussing feeding me the mental health medication at the ward entrance, and their plan to humiliate me during Becky’s celebration party. The final part of the recording revealed what happened before my death—Becky in my room, setting the fire, taunting me, and framing me.He clutched the recorder tightly, his heart breaking into pieces.SoSerina had known everything all along. While enduring the searing pain of being burned alive,he had continued to inflict one fatal wound after another on her heart. The calmness she displayed wasn’t forgiveness or acceptance; it was the silence of someone who had completely given up hope. She was the girl he had loved for over a decade, the one he had sworn to never leave for the rest of their lives.Twice, he had pushed he

The next day, the headlines screamed with the news."Newly Instated Beta Becky Andrus Found Burned to Death—Tortured Beyond Recognition."The pack was in an uproar. When the enforcers arrived at the scene, all they found was a charred, mangled corpse—so thoroughly burned it was impossible to tell if it had once been human or wolf. The forensic report was even more horrifying. Becky hadn’t just been burned alive. She had been injected with wolfsbane—enough to paralyze her, but not enough to kill. Then doused in gasoline. Just when the fire had started to consume her, someone had put it out with an extinguisher… only to start the process again.Burn. Extinguish. Burn. Extinguish. The cycle repeated more than ten times until there was nothing left but ash and bone.As the pack whispered about Becky’s fate, debating whether it was revenge or justice, I lay on an operating table, undergoing my fifteenth skin graft surgery. The witches around me murmured in hushed voices, their fascination w
