I no longer hesitated and took the contraceptives. It was far more bitter than any other time I took them. Meanwhile, those two men continued talking. Mark Green, my husband’s friend, felt the knowledge of this weighing heavily on his conscience. “Let’s set aside the fact that you gave her contraceptives for now and talk about River jumping in the river three years ago to take her own life. Lyra’s mother did her best to save her, but she thrashed around and stepped on Lyra’s mother until she drowned. Dale, anyone who saw that video knows she did it on purpose. It’s only logical for Lyra to sue her.“But you became Lyra’s legal guardian so that River wouldn’t go to jail. You even signed the pardon letter behind Lyra’s back. Yeah, River is fine, but Lyra has severe depression. She keeps blaming herself. If she discovers the truth one day, she’ll lose her mind.”Dale Quinn, my husband, looked irritated. But he remained cold and firmly said, “River didn’t do it on purpose. She was dr

There was a beautiful gift box on the table. In it was an equally beautiful sapphire necklace. It was the type that was priceless and could not be bought even with money. I loved sapphires for their reserved and regal beauty. Yet, Dale would always give me gold accessories. He would say, “Preserving the value of accessories is more important. Besides, you’re beautiful. No matter what you wear, you still look like a noble.”I believed his sweet words. Back in the present, I took out the sapphire necklace from the jewelry box. It was beautiful. The sapphire was about the size of a quail egg. Tiny crystals were added beside it as decoration. As it swayed, the gemstones shone brilliantly. I saw a water droplet carved behind the necklace. Water. River. My breath stilled as my heart shattered, but I finally came to a full realization. Tears spilled from my eyes as I laughed. In the end, as I endured the soul-crushing pain, I fled from the loving cage Dale had built for me.

Upon hearing what the police said, Dale was stunned. He did not seem to understand what the police meant, and he only came to his senses after a long time. “Suicide?“Is this some sick joke? How could my wife possibly jump into a river? Is this a scam?“And what pardon letter? I did write it, but it can’t be with my wife!”The police officer was not expecting him to respond this way.Even so, he still told Dale what had happened. “We received a call past 9 p.m. today telling us that someone had jumped into the river. Based on the security footage, a woman dressed in a white shirt and jeans jumped into the river. She appeared to be in her twenties. We found a suicide note and the shoes she wore while she was alive at the spot where she jumped. After three hours of searching, we found your wife’s body downstream.”Dale slammed on the brakes and parked the car by the roadside. “That’s impossible. I just celebrated New Year’s Eve with my wife and asked her to wait at home with

All kinds of rumors started flying around. People believed that the snakes around me forced me into depression and suicide. When I received the news abroad, New Year’s had already passed in my home country.Yes, I was not dead. The moment I decided on the divorce, I contacted a fake death company. Over in the present, I was just watching the news calmly. I had set aside my love for Dale and just wanted to see them all suffer. Better yet, be destroyed.Perhaps the court would never reopen my mother’s case. Nevertheless, I was going to use public opinion to make sure they never knew peace again. Iceland was cold all year round. Its long nights left people alone with just their shadows, but it was a suitable place for me. To acclimate to life in Iceland sooner, I enrolled in a language school for a year and started learning English as well as Icelandic. Leaving was not as difficult as I thought it would be. It actually made me feel lighter. However, ever since I “pas

Dale was stunned by my response. At the next second, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me into a hug. “Lyra, we’re bound to have a future together. You told me that you’d love me forever. “We can have a child, and we’ll be a happy family…” he said in a choked-up voice. His words just made me laugh. “Do you remember, Dale? You said that if a father doesn’t look forward to the birth of a child, that child will suffer?“You’re telling me that you want a child with me now? When you switched out my antidepressants with contraceptives, did you ever think about how I would want children as a woman?“When you filled up papers with another woman’s name in your study, did you ever think about how much my heart would hurt?”If apologies worked, all the hurt from the past would disappear, no?My words made Dale’s face turn so pale that it was scary. He started closing the gap between us as he said in a pleading and anguished tone, “Even if I made a huge mistake, you shouldn’t have fake
