Penulis: Roaring River

Chapter 1

Penulis: Roaring River
I no longer hesitated and took the contraceptives. It was far more bitter than any other time I took them.

Meanwhile, those two men continued talking. Mark Green, my husband’s friend, felt the knowledge of this weighing heavily on his conscience.

“Let’s set aside the fact that you gave her contraceptives for now and talk about River jumping in the river three years ago to take her own life. Lyra’s mother did her best to save her, but she thrashed around and stepped on Lyra’s mother until she drowned. Dale, anyone who saw that video knows she did it on purpose. It’s only logical for Lyra to sue her.

“But you became Lyra’s legal guardian so that River wouldn’t go to jail. You even signed the pardon letter behind Lyra’s back. Yeah, River is fine, but Lyra has severe depression. She keeps blaming herself. If she discovers the truth one day, she’ll lose her mind.”

Dale Quinn, my husband, looked irritated. But he remained cold and firmly said, “River didn’t do it on purpose. She was drowning, and she did all those things subconsciously. She regrets that Lyra’s mother died because of her too.

“I also kept that pardon letter well-hidden. Lyra will never know the truth. Besides, I treat her well, and I’ll make it up to her for the rest of her life by giving her a home. She’ll forget about her pain and get better.”

Mark sighed. “Calm down. I just pity Lyra. You showed up during her darkest hour, and she began to love you, but the one you truly love is River… Forget it. I hope that you can continue hiding this and you won’t regret it.”

Dale drank his wine and firmly said, “I won’t.”

Those two words made me lose my composure. I fled from the house that I had treated as my sanctuary like a loser.

New Year’s Eve was going to arrive in two days, and a celebratory air filled the streets.

This morning, Dale made love to me. During the throes of passion, he kept saying that he loved me.

However, his declaration had turned into the sharpest blade. It stabbed me in my heart and left me bleeding all over.

I ran to the park and slumped down. Tears spilled from my eyes.

The memories I had pushed to the back of my mind resurfaced just as I became disillusioned with love.

The day I was engaged to my ex, Lucius Lane, River could not accept it because she loved Lucius. She left behind a will and jumped into the river.

She was actually a good swimmer. Even so, my mother still jumped into the river to save her, although she was my father’s illegitimate daughter.

Many people took videos of it, and I saw my mother pull River up. However, River pushed down on my mother’s shoulders and stepped on her head to drive her into the water.

Just like that, my mother drowned.

When I rushed over, River was wailing at me, “I was just incredibly upset and afraid. Don’t blame me, River. When Mom saved me, she wanted me to keep living.”

I broke down and demanded why she made my mother drown, even though she knew how to swim. She just kept crying and saying that she did not do it on purpose.

Nevertheless, I sued her for premeditated murder.

Then, Lucius canceled his engagement with me to marry her.

Dale was stunned by my response. At the next second, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me into a hug. “Lyra, we’re bound to have a future together. You told me that you’d love me forever. “We can have a child, and we’ll be a happy family…” he said in a choked-up voice. His words just made me laugh. “Do you remember, Dale? You said that if a father doesn’t look forward to the birth of a child, that child will suffer?“You’re telling me that you want a child with me now? When you switched out my antidepressants with contraceptives, did you ever think about how I would want children as a woman?“When you filled up papers with another woman’s name in your study, did you ever think about how much my heart would hurt?”If apologies worked, all the hurt from the past would disappear, no?My words made Dale’s face turn so pale that it was scary. He started closing the gap between us as he said in a pleading and anguished tone, “Even if I made a huge mistake, you shouldn’t have fake

The rage of the online masses was burning hot. Soon, they began boycotting everything from Quinn Corporation, which caused the company’s stocks to continue plummeting. Its capital chain was on the verge of rupturing. Our public love affair was just to cover the crimes of another woman. For a time, Quinn Corporation’s stocks fell to the very bottom, and it was about to go bankrupt. With no other choice left, the shareholders worked together to remove Dale from his position as president, and this mess finally came to a stop. River was not as lucky. Some people had taken it upon themselves to analyze her suicide attempt frame by frame. They found that she was a great swimmer. Even though there was no one around to save her, she remained floating on the surface like a fish in water. She only started pretending to panic when my mother showed up to save her. She removed my mother’s life jacket and pushed the lifebuoy beside her far away. Then, she repeatedly pushed my mother’s

All kinds of rumors started flying around. People believed that the snakes around me forced me into depression and suicide. When I received the news abroad, New Year’s had already passed in my home country.Yes, I was not dead. The moment I decided on the divorce, I contacted a fake death company. Over in the present, I was just watching the news calmly. I had set aside my love for Dale and just wanted to see them all suffer. Better yet, be destroyed.Perhaps the court would never reopen my mother’s case. Nevertheless, I was going to use public opinion to make sure they never knew peace again. Iceland was cold all year round. Its long nights left people alone with just their shadows, but it was a suitable place for me. To acclimate to life in Iceland sooner, I enrolled in a language school for a year and started learning English as well as Icelandic. Leaving was not as difficult as I thought it would be. It actually made me feel lighter. However, ever since I “pas

[My whole life, I searched for my happiness. I was proud that I found it, but it was just a dream and a joke. [I read your pardon letter. It’s written really well, and it mocks my perfect marriage. [Farewell.[Don’t keep me in your thoughts.]Lyra knew that their marriage had just been a meticulously planned lie?The moment he finished reading the suicide note, Dale’s face turned even paler. Farewell. That one word stabbed into his eyes like needles. It hurt to read it so much that his eyes burned. Tears spilled out as panic filled his heart. He swayed feebly and slumped down on the floor as he pleaded with the police officers, “Where’s my wife’s body?”One of the officers brought him into the morgue. The body was already decaying, but the clothes were the same as the ones Lyra had worn before she died. Dale could not stop himself from vomiting. He remembered all the moments they had spent together as he saw her dead and swollen face. Suddenly, his vision turned blac

Upon hearing what the police said, Dale was stunned. He did not seem to understand what the police meant, and he only came to his senses after a long time. “Suicide?“Is this some sick joke? How could my wife possibly jump into a river? Is this a scam?“And what pardon letter? I did write it, but it can’t be with my wife!”The police officer was not expecting him to respond this way.Even so, he still told Dale what had happened. “We received a call past 9 p.m. today telling us that someone had jumped into the river. Based on the security footage, a woman dressed in a white shirt and jeans jumped into the river. She appeared to be in her twenties. We found a suicide note and the shoes she wore while she was alive at the spot where she jumped. After three hours of searching, we found your wife’s body downstream.”Dale slammed on the brakes and parked the car by the roadside. “That’s impossible. I just celebrated New Year’s Eve with my wife and asked her to wait at home with

River fought back and laughed maniacally. “You call me a murderer, but do you have proof? Your ex loves me, and your husband loves me too! Both of them believe that I’m innocent and kind! They help me! What can you do about it?”My rage burned even more because of what she said. But since I had been sick for so many years, I could not kill her. She even managed to fling me to the side. “Do you hate me that much, Lyra? I’m sorry! Please don’t hit me anymore!”“River, are you okay?” Dale had apparently heard the commotion and rushed over. He glared at me and slapped me before I could even defend myself. Disappointment burned in his eyes.“Lyra, she’s your sister! How could you try to kill her?! Are you mad?!”River shook her head sadly. “Don’t blame Lyra, Dale. It’s my fault. I killed her mother.”I ignored the burning pain on my cheek and glared at him with bloodshot eyes. “We’re the only ones who know where my mother’s grave is located. Are you the one who told River where it
