Amanda's POV My heart slams against my ribs. I freeze so hard my breath breaks inside my chest. My fingers curl around the sealed envelope Clara gave me, gripping it like it’s the only anchor I have left. I turn slowly. And there he was– Ryan. He stands beside the dim light of a streetlamp, half his face swallowed in shadow, the other half carved with worry so deep it twists something inside me. For a moment, everything else, the fear, the confusion, the tension tangled in my ribs falls away, replaced by a rush of relief. "Ryan." His name slips out of me with a gasp. He walks toward me, tensed, his shoulders down, his eyes burning with a mix of fear and anger. When he finally stops in front of me, he looks like he’s been holding his breath since the moment I left him this morning. "I followed you." he says quietly, voice low. I blink at him, still trying to get my pulse under control. "You… followed me?" He nods once, his jaw clenched. "Yeah, I didn’t trust Clara and I

Amanda's POV The more the time of the date with Thomas drew closer, I became more anxious and scared. When he showed up outside my apartment exactly on time, too on time dressed immaculately in a dark suit, hair slicked back like he was headed to a board meeting instead of a casual evening together. He smiled when I stepped outside, there was a smile on his that didn't feel natural, it made me feel uneasy. "Amanda." he said, taking my hands and squeezing a little too hard. "You look beautiful." "Thank you." I murmured, though discomfort spreading across my skin. He didn’t let go of my hands until we were inside the car. The entire drive, he kept glancing at me as if memorizing every movement I made. I tried to brush it off so that I that I could pretend to enjoy the evening without But the knot in my stomach only grew tighter. When we arrived at the building, I paused halfway out of the elevator when I realized we were going up, past the residential floors, past the penthou

Ryan's POV I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t think, it felt like my heart had just been pulled out from my chest. I couldn’t even feel the pain in my body as Thomas’s men pinned my arms behind my back. All I saw was Amanda being pushed into that van, fear breaking across her face, her hands reaching for me, her mouth screaming my name even though the door slammed before the sound came out. "Amanda!" My voice cracked. I threw my body forward, but the men dragged me back and slammed me onto the ground. I heard the screeching sound of the van before it pulled away . And she was gone, taken away and and I couldn't do anything to keep her safe. Everything inside me collapsed inside me, it felt like the hardest blow I had ever taken. The eyes blurred, mychest tightened until I thought I would pass out right there in the dirt. "Let me go!" I roared, twisting so violently that one of the men stumbled backward. I elbowed another in the rib and threw myself up to my feet, rage drowned ev

Ryan's POV The moment Adam stopped the car in front of the house, I already knew something was wrong. The place was silent, too silent. No guards. No movement. No sign of Amanda. My chest tightened as I pushed open the door and stepped inside. The air smelled like dust and old building materials, it was completely empty. "Amanda?" I called out anyway, even though I knew she wasn’t here. My voice echoed back at me, hollow. Adam swept the flashlight across the room. "He moved her, recently." I clenched my jaw hard enough to make it ache. "He was here. I was this close." My hand shook. Not from fear but rage, it was slowly consuming me. Adam crouched near a pile of papers. "Ryan." he murmured, "He left in a hurry. Look." I walked over and knelt beside him. On the floor was a half-crumpled map, smeared with dirt. Certain roads were circled in red, I could tell it was the map of the town. Thomas was planning this, all of it, I knew the bastard has something sinister in his head. M

Ryan's POV The moment Adam slammed the door shut, I hit the gas. Our tyres screeched and shot forward, and my heartbeat drowned out everything, even his voice. All I could hear was Amanda’s scream replaying in my head, that one moment when Thomas dragged her into the van, that look in her eyes, fear and betrayal. And I wasn’t fast enough to stop it.Adam pointed ahead. "There's a white van, turning left!" He screamed. My hands tightened on the wheel, " I see it.”The van was speeding down the old industrial road, moving between trucks and potholes, Thomas was pushing it too hard, too fast. He was panicking, and people like him, unstable, desperate, always made the worst choices when cornered.Adam pushed the car harder, the engine roared as if it felt the same anger I did, every inch we got closer made me feel like we were finally getting close to getting our lives back."She’s alive." Adam said, almost like he needed to remind both of us."She has to be."But fear twisted in my sto
