Chapter 61

Carissa's POV I didn't like the chill that came with her voice.“What are they?” I asked in response. “Mysteries are unexplainable occurrences experienced by our ancestors. One of them is called Carvo Aqueto.”“What's that?”I was getting a very unsettling and eerie feeling from the way she spoke, but I didn't dare question her behavior or why her voice was unusually calm.“The mystery says that a wolf could harness so much power it could trap its human form for life.”I shook my head, not wanting to believe my ears.“That's impossible.”“Oh, it is very possible,” she said, her eyes wider than an owl’s. Like they were about to pop out of her eye sockets.“Especially with our good friend Violetta. That's why I need you to be on watch. You will monitor her every move. Any sign of her getting stronger, you report to me. Then at the right time, we feed her.”Her evil grin unnerved me, and immediately she took her eyes off the bottle; it was like she was a totally different person.“That

Chapter 62Theodore's POVI woke up in the healer's tent. My head and my whole body were burning over 100 degrees. I opened my eyes, not even attempting to sit up.The healer pressed a cold cloth on my body.“You're awake.”I said nothing. My head felt heavy without me lifting it.“What happened to me?”The last thing I remembered was pink dust over me in the forest.I remembered the figure in the cloak, but her face was blurry now. Worse still, I remembered her with a strong feeling of familiarity.“You were found almost gone in the forest. Fighting for your life basically. I should be asking you what happened in the forest”“I …”The images flashed in my head. “Argh!”, I responded to the sharp pain. “Calm down. You don't have to remember it now.”“I chased someone down. I don't seem to be able to remember who it was but…”I paused. The image was still blurry even when she looked back.Or had I just been hallucinating?“I think she may be one of us. I knew I was shocked because she

Violetta's POVI came out first, the door closing slowly by itself as I adjusted my coat. The furriness of it made me wonder what kind of coat it was and what it was made of. I don't think I am ready for that answer.“Be nice to her.”I heard Theodore say from inside. Caleb came out minutes after.“Let's go,” he said, brushing past me. As we approached the gate, a chariot pulled up in front of us.“Lord Theodore requested that we transport you by carriage, Miss Crescent.”“Oh wow. For just Miss Crescent?” Caleb asked with unrelenting sarcasm. I rolled my eyes.“For you both, Sir Caleb.”I said nothing, and for seconds none of us made a move.“Well, ladies first,” he said, with a hand gesture. The carriage attendant helped me into the carriage, and Caleb took the seat opposite mine.Soon, the horses were on the road to the Silver Moon graveyard. It was a long and silent ride, but finally, we got to the graveyard. I alighted from the chariot, and we took a long walk far into the grave

Chapter 64

Theodore's POVI was surprised she actually got up to help me with the duvet. The faint lamplight cast shadows across the wooden walls of the healer’s cottage, and the faint crackle of the fire in the corner filled the silence. The air smelled faintly of herbs and simmering broth, grounding me in a space that felt too intimate for what my body craved at this moment. As she slid the duvet over me properly, her fingers brushed against my arm, and instinctively I grabbed her hand, pulling her closer to myself. She flinched, her breath turning shallow, each inhale quicker and sharper, betraying what words could not.“Are you ready to tell me what you're a lover of now?” I asked, my voice low, nearly a growl. Her chest heaved up and down, hair falling forward, covering half her face in a curtain of silken strands. The rest spilled down to her selvedge, strands swaying with each trembling breath. My eyes lingered. I bit my lower lip, more attracted to her than I dared admit aloud.“Uhhmm…”

Chapter 65

Nolan's POV“Good morning, my love,” I heard Carissa’s light voice say. “I hope you slept well,” she said, smiling as she came closer, placing a hand on my arm. I brushed her off roughly.“I slept fine, Carissa,” I replied coldly, getting out of bed. It had been getting stranger and stranger, spending nights with Carissa. On some nights, I could barely remember anything that happened before I fell asleep, and I always woke up sore the next day.I sat back down on the bed, and Carissa shifted to where I was, placing both hands on my shoulder. “You sound tired,” she said, gently massaging my shoulders. Her hands were extra soft, and I couldn't deny how relaxing they felt against my aching shoulders.I closed my eyes, enjoying the moment as her hands moved to my arms and down.“You should lie back down. Your body seems to ache…all over,” she said, her soothing voice almost siren-like, luring me to her will. But just then a loud knock interrupted the moment. She rolled her eyes. “Do yo

Chapter 66

Nolan’s POVThe council chamber was heavy with heat, not from fire, but from the crushing weight of accusations thrown at me like daggers. The stone walls echoed with voices, sharp and demanding, as though they would squeeze the truth from me by sheer force. My jaw ached from grinding my teeth, my patience worn thin under the elders’ endless questioning. And then just then the doors creaked open. The sound alone seemed to slice through the chamber. The atmosphere shifted immediately; sharp whispers replaced open accusations. Heads turned in unison. It was as though a sudden wind had blown into the room, scattering the elders’ fire and leaving them breathless. For them, it wasn’t a pleasant surprise. For me, it was the idiom come alive: saved by the bell.Luna Theresa stepped in.“Greetings, Alpha. Elders,” she said with a poised courtesy bow, her voice calm yet layered with authority. But it wasn’t just her.Behind my mother came Carissa Orson. The last person I could have expected to

Chapter 67

Nolan’s POVI stormed out of the council chamber, not in absolute anger. In fact, real relief washed over me as I walked out of the council hall and into my carriage. How else would I have survived those bloody elders without my mother?I would never admit it openly, but my mother held all power over the province of Silvermoon, Alpha or no Alpha.I realize it now. No matter how powerful I assumed I was, I would never be able to command power like that woman. She had every single werewolf of the Silvermoon pack within her palm. She could bend anyone to her will.Standing next to her made my position a joke. Made me a joke.I was never truly Alpha. This was exactly how my mother wanted me to feel. Powerless in her presence, just like the elders and every other person.Else,Why hadn't she told me she was coming? With every eye still burning at the back of my skull. Their silence had not been for me; it had been for her. My mother. Luna Theresa. The queen of the shadows who never stopped

Chapter 68

Violetta's POVI didn't get much sleep last night. How could I? After our bodies had almost collided with the sink? The tension. The electrifying feel of the moment. I could have sworn my heart stopped for those seventeen minutes. I couldn't forget how stuck on him I was, imagining him biting into the softest parts of my body like that red apple yesterday. How had he brushed off the running apple juice from the side of my lower lip?How could I possibly forget? It was the most intense seventeen minutes of my life. I'd waited, my body ready to accept any irrational decisions from him. Yet, would it really be irrational if we were in the moment?Well, it didn't matter because Theodore just turned away from me yesterday like we'd not just been insanely hung up on each other seconds ago. With three of the dumbest words I'd heard, “we should get some sleep.”Make that five words. So I stayed up most of the night, not because I wanted to hit it, but because there was a mix of excitement a

Chapter 69

Theodore’s POV“Great, it’s your baby brother.”Guards followed behind him, their boots thudding against the stone floor of the palace corridor in measured, almost military rhythm. The morning light filtered in through the tall glass windows, painting Nolan in streaks of gold and shadow as he strutted in his Alpha attire: velvet-lined coat, intricate embroidery, and the staff of command gleaming in his hand.He could have just been easily carried on the shoulders of the guards; that was the type of thing Nolan enjoyed: dramatics and the performance of power.“Greetings, Alpha,” Caleb greeted with a bow, his voice even but his eyes betraying restrained irritation.“Greetings, Alpha,” I muttered, but without the bow.Nolan grinned, wide and self-satisfied. He had no idea that every time he did that, that smug curve of his lips subtracted from the intimidating aura he was trying so hard to project.“Can I have a moment alone with my brother, please?” he asked Caleb, his tone dripping wit

Chapter 70

Theodore's POV I rushed after Violetta, utterly confused at the scenario that had just ensued. What had happened to her? What had she seen? When I met her on the passage, she was literally bathing herself from the rushing tap. I rushed to her.“Violetta, slow down. What happened to you?”I tried to hold her, but she stumbled back, hand out like I was with a weapon ready to attack her.“I'm… I don't… I don't know.”“Just breathe… calm…”“Stop saying ‘breathe,’” she blurted, cutting me off.“I'm sorry. I just … I freaked out. I didn't feel peace. Instead, it was like… I was being drawn in…” She paused to catch her breath. “It was like I was being drawn into more darkness,” she said. Her eyes flickered with fear and a lot of anxiety. I wanted to pull her close, to hug her and hold her hand. But I resisted, maintaining our distance. Silence fell on us for a moment, and I could only hear Violetta's excessive breathing. I hated to see her in these states.“It's your first. It's always lik
